Hello everyone, I’ve finally gotten my first Lambs-foot!A TEW in ram’s horn. The F&F is very nice, although the blade does move side to side a bit in the closed position but is solid in the open position. I have to admit that when I first opened it I was heartbroken because in the low light I thought it was cracked. Once I got it outside I could see that the whiteish line I thought was a crack is not. Looking closer I can see it has several whitish striations at different depths on both sides all following the same curvature, and none on the very smooth surface. I’m outside in good light now and I can’t get over how much character is in these covers. I actually really like it. It reminds me of when I was a boy and would lay face down and and look through all the fissures in the ice, or peering into a cats eye marble. My only complaint is the movement of the blade when closed. I have to be careful when I open it so I don’t push the blade up against the liner and put scratches in the blade. Other than that, I’m really liking it so far and I’m beginning to understand the love you all have for the Lambfoot!

Lambsfoot knives are hard to find here in the US, but I found this in a shop I won't name in San Francisco. It is listed by the shop as a J. Adams, But the only mark on the knife is the oval "Made in Sheffield" tang stamp. Jack tells me that current J. Adams knives are made by the A. Wright & Son factory.
Since this is my first of this type, I'll go on a bit about my first impressions. The pins are all flush, and the spring is flush both closed and open. There is negligible play when locked open. The wood was listed on the web as walnut, but on the phone they said it was oak. This sure looks like oak to me, but I'm no expert. The blade is matte, and the bolster is polished bright. I could find no rough edges anywhere. The knife came VERY sharp, but I found a card from the shop saying that they had sharpened it. So I don't know if the shop or the maker made it so sharp. The bevel grinds of the edge are slightly uneven; the left side is ground ever so slightly higher than the right. Then edge bows up slightly at the point of the blade. The point of the blade is slightly too high. I could catch my finger or a business card on the point if I slide it over the closed knife. I filed the kick down slightly to correct this.
The pull is stiff, but I can pinch it open (just). It seems to be breaking in nicely, and has gotten easier after applying a little oil.
I'm trying to be as picky as possible here, but this is very nice knife, definitely a keeper.

Then I found out I'd been carrying two lambsfoot all day. So I had a bottle of this stuff:

in celebration of Jonathan Neame, head of Shepherd Neame's brewery in Kent who yesterday gave a 'Bishops Finger' to the UK government's plan to require a vaccination certificate to visit pubs.

I lived in Oz for two years (on and off) and the closest I came to slithery mishap was stepping onto a Eastern Brown getting out a car.A silly mistake only silly Poms make.

Hopefully you don’t end up having to “show your papers” to grab a pint, David.![]()
Do you see a lot of beer over there bottled in clear glass? That looks like a nicer brew than the inexpensive stuff I usually associate with clear bottles here.
When I was a kid, visiting my grandma one summer, I was walking down to lake for a swim when I saw what I thought was a strip of rubber from a blown tire in the street. So naturally, being a kid, I figured I ought to kick it. I was only a step or two away when it moved. It was a water moccasin.![]()

Thanks my friend, feeling a little better today. Still fatigued but from what I have learned that may linger for a couple of weeks
. Reading your posts here do cheer me up a bit
. Being stuck inside gets to be old
. Your HHB pile side as good as the mark side!

Thanks Jack, I've seen those gas cylinder ones on YT, but there are loads of designs. I've been watching loads of YT videos on them and I'm going for one made out of bricks placed on a paving stone. Total cost about £12.
Cracking. Still not found my HHB yet, which I lost before Christmas. It seems to of disappeared into the ether. It's somewhere in my house but Lord knows were.![]()
Just testing out my new Ghillie kettle today.

Not yet Jack. I only got the sling a few days ago, it came in the same package as my biodag. I'm going camping in a couple of weeks though, and I'll definitely bring it along.
Thanks Jack, glad to finally be one of the Guardians!Yay! Welcome to the Guardians! That looks really nice
I think the blade movement might annoy me a little, but nowhere near as much as it would in the open position. It's not an issue I've commonly seen with Sheffield knives either. Peening a knife with play when open is pretty straightforward, but I'm not sure in this case. It might be worth having a word with one of our cutlers/modders about it. It does annoy me when Sheffield firms send knives overseas without thoroughly checking them first, but most of the retailers wouldn't even notice it. Cool pics

It's my 60th birthday this coming week,
Thanks Jack, glad to finally be one of the Guardians!
I going to take your advice and contact someone and see what they say about the loose blade, I can live with it, but I’d rather live without it.
Happy early birthday!
Todd
That's a great picture Barrettbtb01 and a great looking knife.
Nothing wrong with re-posting knife pictures. I do it all the time as it's very time consuming for me to take a picture, put the camera card in a reader, download it into my computer, edit it, and save it to a file. I don't have a cell phone with a camera. My cell phone is from 2005. I don't update it because we don't get a cell phone signal here at the house so it's not very useful.
Anyway, here's a re-post of my "Lil-un" with Pere David stag. The stag isn't spectacular but the knife is very nice over all.

Errr some of the bigger brewers use clear bottles but most still use brown (with a couple using green). I think their thinking is they shift so much stock that quickly the product wouldn't be exposed to the sun for long enough to make a difference to the taste.
Shepherd Neame's beers are pretty nice and the brewery own a lot of pubs in the south east of England, mainly in the county of Kent and London.
LOL! That lake you were swimming in wasn't where the water moccasin lived was it.![]()
Nice shot, your the chap with relatives in Bath aren't you? I hope you can get to see them again at some point.![]()
LOL!I like that photo too Barrett, a great reminder of a very happy time

That is a decent looking " Nellie ". I would put money down that it tastes as good as it looks.Decent pies there
My brother and his family lived in Bath, but they moved back to the States about a year and a half ago. We got to visit twice, which was great. This was my brother’s favorite pub in Bath, The Raven.

Yes indeed, Jack!(I definitely fell asleep on that train from Sheffield.
Thankfully I woke up before I had to change trains at Bristol!)
60?! I though you were in your 40’s!!![]()
Happy early birthday, Jack! I’d post my usual “Happy Birthday” spelled out with knives photo, but it’s made up of 18 knives and not one of them’s a Lambsfoot… I don’t want to be banished from the thread!

Hi Kamagong, I sent you a PM.Nice knife. Did you get that from BC?
One thing about those old ' rough hole ' pubs, they were great learning places. And one thing you learnt was to " Keep Your Eyes Open and Your Mouth Shut ".I used to drink in a Sheffield pub called 'The Raven' as a teenager, bit of a 'rough hole'!![]()
