Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I've been having all kinds of problems with the BF software today (and with my mail program, and with at least 2 or 3 notices per hour that the same 2 "new" printers have been installed). But after a couple of restarts of the computer and quitting restarting my browser, I finally seem to have the ability to post messages again.

I apparently haven't posted in the Guardians thread since January 9, but I have been reading it almost daily. I wanted to try to post something today, probably too late now for Jack's actual birthdate in his time zone, to wish the Chief Guardian a Happy 60th Birthday!!:):thumbsup: I always think that birthdays in which one's age is divisible by the day of month number are special.:cool::rolleyes: (another way of stating the same thing is to say your birthday is special if your age is a multiple of the day you were born.) For someone born on the first of the month, EVERY birthday is special, because that birth date evenly divides into age 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and ... For me, I was born on the 19th of the month, so I consider my special birthdays to be age 19 and 38 and 57 and 76 and any other multiples of 19 I happen to attain.

But poor Jack, being born on the 30th of the month, is experiencing (or has just experienced) only his second special birthday, since the only ages he's reached that are multiples of 30 are his 30th birthday (I've heard that that day is still fondly remembered by Yorkshire 30 years later ;)) and now his 60th birthday - I hope it lived up to all the mathematical hype, Jack! :D And now you have age 90 to look forward to!

(Looking at it from a slightly different perspective, the 60th birthday is a special one for many of us, since 60 has so many divisors. 60 is a special birthday for anyone born on the dates 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, or 30 of some month.)

The past few months have been very busy for me and I don't see it letting up much until the middle of May, but I'll try to post here more frequently than once every other month!:eek::rolleyes:

Yeah a lot of the smaller breweries in the UK have moved over to cans, especially the newer 'craft' breweries with their more modern brews. There's still a big call from the traditionalists for bottles. I prefer bottles but in all honesty there's absolutely no difference in taste. But there is in volume, our tins 440ml, our bottles are 500ml. Less beer for the same price. :(

Sizes are all over the place here. “Standard” bottles and cans are both 12 oz (355 ml). Then you’ve got the 14.9 oz cans (440 ml), 16 oz cans (US pint), 19.2 oz “stovepipe” cans (Imperial pint), 24 oz cans (“tallboys”), 16.9 oz bottles (500 ml), 22 oz bottles (“bombers”), 750 ml bottles, 32 oz “crowlers” and 64 oz growlers. :D

LOL! Barrett. You've only gone and chosen what is probably the most expensive of London's traditional pubs. :D Yip, it's a nice pub, but I'd have to sell one of my more important internal organs to afford anything in there. :D
I remember you posting those Bath shots; it looked a great pub. I think it was on my list of things to do as well but that'll never happen now.

What can I say, I guess I have expensive tastes! I’ve only spent a total of about 48 hours in London, but I sort of got the impression that everything was expensive. :D

LOL! I bet you got a hiding for that!:D

I got hidings for much less  A typical conversation from my childhood:

CRACK!
Young Jack: "What's that for?"
Mother: "That's before you start!"

One litre; the medium sized model they do. I thought I'd split the difference between a decent water capacity and amount of fuel used. But seeing how fast these things boil I don't think that's a consideration really so I could of gone with the largest.

My KK is the smaller size, anything bigger would have been too big and bulky for my pack. It boils enough water for 2 cups of tea very fast, but if I was buying one for at home, etc I'd have gone with a larger size

Your welcome Jack, I hope you like them. :)

Thanks again mate :) It took me a long while to warm to the cans, but I like the fact I can carry far more beer than in bottles, when I'm doing my shopping. However, since I now get most of my beer delivered, bottles it is! :D ;)

Happy Birthday Jack.

This is like the three Corsican Old Timers sitting on a bench.
After a long while, the left one says : eheheh...
A longer while later the right one says : ohohoh...
Then, after a long, very long time, the middle one stands up on his feets and says : if you start yelling I prefer leave... :p

Thanks Barrett, happy memories there :) You're right about London, I haven't visited much for some years, but a decade back I was working there regularly, and you're rupturing money all the time you're there! o_O

Good morning Guardians, thank you once again for all the birthday wishes, which really touched me :) In spite of the current Covid restrictions, I had a very pleasant day yesterday, though I doubt it would have been nice without the glorious weather we enjoyed. I received some lovely presents, including some great cutlery-related books, good malt whisky, and a new laptop, and we went out for a walk in the nearby countryside. Unfortunately, it was absolutely packed with people out there, including some pretty rude and stupid people, and I wished I had taken my stick (if not an assault rifle)! o_O It was so warm here, I was able to sit out in the garden, with a few friends and neighbours, until late into the evening :) I hope everyone else is having a good week, I'm going to have an easy day today I think, tidy up a bit, and have a look at some of my books. Have a good day Guardians

Few pics from my walk yesterday, ordinarily I wouldn't expect to see a soul on that stretch of country road mid-week o_O

Wonderful picture of your flock there.

Crikey, nowt like confusing the customer then. I think we just have 330ml and 440ml cans. Bottles are also either 330ml or 500ml. Our pints served in pubs are 20floz (568mls).
Yip London is (or was) very expensive. The actual city is dead now, some of the most prime retail estate in the world has been emptied and stripped bare, and I'm not sure how it's going to recover.

I got hidings for much less  A typical conversation from my childhood:

Hey Jack, looks like you had a cracking day out. Nice pics, especially of the tame local wildlife. :D

The cottage is the old well house to the ruined Hollinshead Hall in Lancashire.
https://lancashirepast.com/2014/05/26/hollinshead-hall-ruins-and-well-house-near-tockholes/

Apparently the well itself is ancient but the well house built around it is probably 18th century.
