Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Pt-Luso Pt-Luso that's a nice looking knife !!! I'm interested in knowing what you think of the M.May knife or knives you have. I was looking pretty hard last night at an ergonomic handle 01 tool steel lambsfoot offering of his ... not in stock and several weeks to make. I watched one youtube video of a lambsfoot M.May knowingly supplied to a video reviewer and the blade was found to be slightly off center but otherwise very good F/F. Do you know anything about his consistency? After all, I think he's been making knives for less than 10yrs. Thanks :)
OH ... any thoughts as to why he puts a swedge on the blade mark side but not the pile side?

CRACK!
Young Jack: "What's that for?"
Mother: "That's before you start!"
My version.
" What's that for, i haven't done anything. "
" That's for what you're going to do that i won't know about. ":D:D:D.

ordinarily I wouldn't expect to see a soul on that stretch of country road mid-week
Looks like the M15 freeway.:eek::rolleyes:.

I am slowly getting better but my allergies are complicating things a bit:rolleyes:. The Covid cough is hanging on and the fatigue is still dogging me but I'm eventually going to beat it:thumbsup:.
Glad to hear you're starting to come good.:thumbsup::thumbsup::).

Think I'm going to have an early night, with a good (birthday) book
Yeah, just a bit of light reading there.;).

LOL! I bet you got a hiding for that!:D

One litre; the medium sized model they do. I thought I'd split the difference between a decent water capacity and amount of fuel used. But seeing how fast these things boil I don't think that's a consideration really so I could of gone with the largest.

Your welcome Jack, I hope you like them. :)

Yeah a lot of the smaller breweries in the UK have moved over to cans, especially the newer 'craft' breweries with their more modern brews. There's still a big call from the traditionalists for bottles. I prefer bottles but in all honesty there's absolutely no difference in taste. But there is in volume, our tins 440ml, our bottles are 500ml. Less beer for the same price. :(

LOL! Barrett. You've only gone and chosen what is probably the most expensive of London's traditional pubs. :D Yip, it's a nice pub, but I'd have to sell one of my more important internal organs to afford anything in there. :D
I remember you posting those Bath shots; it looked a great pub. I think it was on my list of things to do as well but that'll never happen now.

Now that looks perfect.

Fantastic locos. There used to be a railway museum in Melbourne didn't there? Without looking it up I can't remember what it's called but it's at the mouth of the Yarra if I recall.

Happy Birthday Jack.

Yesterdays walk.

That last photo is a beautiful old building.:thumbsup::thumbsup:. I don't know how old it is, but it will still be standing when a building constructed today will be a pile of rubble.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:.

Guess Pt-Luso hasn't checked back in, so I'll toss this to the regiment. What say ye Guardians ... M.May Lambsfoot? Thanks :)

EDIT: I have one(1) highly functional but mostly unremarkable A.Wright Lambsfoot and one on the way to me in rosewood. I would like to acquire a third Lambsfoot but want a very good one. I've searched for a good one and stumbled on M.May but can not find many thoughts on his efforts. The problem is, I may never be happy LOL. I think I could search until the end of my days and not find a Lambsfoot as fine as some of the SFOs and others here. So very regrettably I missed all the good ones. Shoot.

My one and only (so far) Lambsfoot ... her name is Sarah ... and she never belonged to Mary ;)

I bought one from him back in 2019. Shoddy work. Tang sat crooked in the bolster. I recall his story was that his apprentice made it and it got sent out before M. May could inspect it. I ended up sending it back for a refund.
Thank you for the reply. I was afraid of that. My gut said if M.May sent a fine example of his work to a widely known video reviewer and the reviewer found obvious fault ... his efforts would be "luck of the draw", like so many others. While no knife is perfect, I'm just searching for consistent quality in a proper and attractive traditional English work knife. Some of y'all may have gotten ALL of them I'm afraid LOL.

Personally, I'd stay clear, from what I've seen, Mr May's main talent seems to be self-promotion, rather than knife-making. He buys his blades and springs from Wright's, and some of the examples of his knives I've seen are worse than Wright's on a bad day. You'll find him referenced in the thread index, but unfortunately that only covers the first few hundred pages

I remember that my friend, and I thought the apprentice story was even shoddier than the knife o_O

They turn up now and again Jim, but the SFOs went to a select group, and because of that, and perhaps because I sold them for less than they cost me to get made, very few were flipped. Understandably, folks hang onto Charlie's knives too, but it might be worth adding a 'WTB' note to your sig line. Other options are buying an inexpensive Sheffield Lambsfoot, and having it re-built, or seeking out a vintage model. I've also given away quite a lot in the past. Perhaps the best route to securing a good Lambsfoot is hanging out here in the Guardians thread ;)

Thanks a lot Christian, very kind of you :)

Good morning Guardians, I hope everyone is having a good week :) I thought I'd pocket one of the knives @Reaper AL gifted me today, a Sheffield Lambsfoot re-built by @jsdistin , and re-covered in giraffe bone. Have a good day Guardians, stay safe out there

Thank you very much B BrotherJim . For me it is a good and beautiful knife, I have nothing to say against it.
As for your question about the swedge, I don't know why it is so.;):thumbsup:

Thank you Dan, me and my companions were discussing your many talents, and that photo, as we walked along yesterday :) It's one of my favourites, and I thought I should make an effort to compete, with some wildlife I found along the way  :D ;)

I thought my ears were burning a couple days ago :D lol

Such cool wildlife you guys got there   :D

This one here was not so cool, although it sort of redeemed itself after posing for a pic with my African rosewood lamb.
During the night we heard some noises, found a small hole in the little tent we use for food  .
What he really was after was the scraping of macaroni and cheese my wife had dumped further in the forest while cleaning the cast iron pan.

Thanks Bill, I'm glad you're still on the mend, and hope you're back to full fitness very soon my friend :)
Thanks Jack. They tell me that I'm over it now and done with self quarantine but that the fatigue will last awhile:rolleyes:. Still some coughing but some of that is just my allergies. The tree pollen is rolling in like a fog; you can actually see it blowing like clouds of dust in the wind:eek:. In the middle of all this I'm packing our belongings in preparation of a move into a new home....stirring up more dust:eek:! We are only moving a short distance away thank goodness.:D

Oh no! What a bandit! :D It's certainly a great photo though Dan, well done :)

That's good to hear Bill, I hope that the fatigue passes soon. Any idea how you picked it up? I don't think it would be hard to catch here, with the way people are behaving  Sorry to hear about your allergies, it must be awful, my son-in-law suffers badly :( What a time to move! I hope it all goes well

I've just been out for a walk round the neighbourhood, much quieter than out in the countryside, but it's a lot cooler here today. I bought some nice sourdough, and also got a cherry pie from a small local supermarket. I bought an apple pie from there a few weeks ago, and it wasn't baked properly in the middle. The cherry pie is even worse! o_O It's such a rotten shop! If they weren't part of a chain, I don't think they'd stay open o_O

B BrotherJim , Not sure how José will reply but I can tell you from my experience with MM knives that I won't be buying any more from him. Firstly, it took forever to get it. The F&F was horrible, the blade grind was awful. The blade was not centered at all. MM said he would fix it and I mailed it back to him and never heard anything for months. He never picked the knife up from where ever it was delivered and I finally received it back some months later but I did get a refund and kept the knife. I had to have a cutler fix the thing (spring gaps were terrible too). In the end I had a decent knife but I had a fair bit of money tied up in it. I sold it because of my terrible experience with it. I just couldn't own that thing. I have heard that MM acquires much of the knife parts from Wright but I can't confirm that.

Thanks Jack. I have no idea how I picked up the COVID but of the dozens of folk that I came in contact with none have had any symptoms including my wife Kathi. I received a phone call from "Contact Tracing" and was asked about who I had contact with for ten days prior to my symptoms. They then said I could have gotten from the gasoline pump handle or anywhere:confused:. A good thing is my sense of taste and smell is slowly returning. I hadn't been very hungry for the past days and you would think that I could lose a few unwanted pounds from the old waistline but no. I realize that your cherry pie might not be the best you've had but I would kill to be able to taste it:rolleyes:! Maybe a bit better with a little vanilla ice cream:D?

It sure is :)

Yeah, no wonder my memory is going, I was probably punch-drunk before I started school! Thanks mate, I'm not sure what I'd have done if the weather hadn't been so good  Thank you for the link too David, that's fascinating

Very nice Jer :) Have you tried freezing it?

Think I'm going to have an early night, with a good (birthday) book :)
