Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Yes indeed Barrett, I used to call in somewhere for coffee at least once a day :)

Is that right Barrett?! I guess I better get started! :D ;)

I remember now Rob (thanks) :) That looks great, and it certainly went to a good home :) I love the deep black patina on the blades of your original

Here's a pic of Rob's knife outside the old Taylor's Eye Witness factory for everyone

I hope everyone is having a good Thursday :) It's been a long day here, and a tiring one. I had a pleasant time with my friends at the market, but it rained heavily from 11.00am. I have a few things to do, but hoping to get caught up later

Photos of market stalls and old tools, yes:thumbsup:, is that a clamp with a drill attached. Looks like it on the table, and how does it work? I can't work it out.

Love that stone, Jack  It's a shame the old TEW building is being demolished.
I doubt there's one in 10,000 Sheffield people even know that stone is even there. I remember taking my mother to see it, she grew up a stone's throw from the TEW factory, and even she had never seen it before. These past few years, the old cutlery factories are supposed to have preservation orders on them, but other listed buildings in Sheffield, some of national importance have been left to crumble and fall down on there own. In the case of the TEW factory, the firm didn't need a factory anymore, and didn't want to pay rates on it. They couldn't demolish it, so eventually Sheffield City Council took it off their hands. When they build the yuppie flats, they'll probably keep some of the external walls, or at least the tarted-up frontage, stick up some glass panels, that kind of thing. Some of the building may remain, but if it's anything like the other similar conversions, it won't look much like the old building. I have the plans somewhere, though they keep changing, and they talk about "building a community in the heart of the city". I know that area well, and it HAS a community, just not a rich one. Who knows what'll happen though, half these schemes never come off, the property speculators do OK, and the property stays empty :(

My mate had some interesting items today :) I was looking at an old forged axe, over a hundred years old. He had £8 on it, and I'd have got it for a fiver - if I needed yet another axe! :D That clamp is actually a powerful pipe-cutter, real solid old thing, as was the drill next to it. I had a look at the drill, tempting at £10, and in good condition, but I have several hand drills, and I'd probably go electric when things get THAT big! :D ;) I got a few things, a wood chisel, a large diameter drill bit, a new MOD (Ministry of Defence) screwdriver - £3 the lot :)

Only been searching for one of these for over a year now.. finally able to snag a great one from an excellent member here! Many thanks, feeling very grateful.
Congrats!

A stag Lamb would round out my collection nicely! Hopefully Mike from Collector Knives will have stag covered Lambs with his modern traditional twists. Then I'd have to get one.

Playing around down on the dock this morning before going in to turn in my “end of the year” paperwork. 😉
The backlighting was making it difficult to see the knife, so I thought I would use it (the backlighting) instead of fighting it, and ended up with this. 👍View attachment 1567471
Worked well, Todd@😉👍
Jason @Signalprick holding the Standard Lambfoot he recovered with Snakewood for me. He did a wonderful job.

Love seeing your snakewood lamb, Ed, very unique!🙂👍
Looking good, José!👍
Good evening, Guardians.

A fine ale and a cigar, accompanied by my bone WCLF is making for a splendid evening so far.

Another wonderful shot, Dylan!👍👍

Congratulations, those are excellent, you'll enjoy it!🙂👍

Here’s my humble offering, and request for membership.

It was sold as “J. Adams”, but the tang stamp only reads “Made in Sheffield”. The wood is supposed to be walnut. It came very sharp, with a centered blade, no play, and strong snap.

The point was barely proud of the handle so I took a DMT stone to the kick. It’s just tucked in now so it won’t cut a finger.
Will!
Good to see you here!😎👍
Looks like a fine example!
I have a few things to do, but hoping to get caught up later

Jack, those are some fine looking tools! Between them and your HHB, I'm drooling a bit on my phone!

Also enjoyed your photo with your mates, a motley crew for sure!😁😎👍

Been a little out of commission lately, but we did get out and went camping (ok, in a camper trailer, then a cabin 😶🙄), but it was good to get out a bit!
Our cabin was top rate, had my gear ready, put a little touch up on the knife. The deer leg in the tree stumbled me, about 6 ft. Off the ground. 😳😬🤔

Looks like you've got it pretty well covered. 👌

Thanks a lot Dennis :D  It's good to see you here my friend, and the camping trip sounds like a great tonic, I hope you're feeling OK today :) Impressive-looking cabin

Good morning Guardians, hope everyone is doing well, and that you've made it through the week OK. Miserable weather here again I'm afraid, but I'm off for coffee and cake with my mate and his youngest :) Then I've got a bunch of chores to do in the house  ;) I thought I'd tick a few boxes with my 2018 Guardians SFO in ebony  Have a good Friday Guardians

I'll be out early to the market tomorrow, so I won't get a chance to catch up until later in the day. The forecast is for yet more rain, but I'm looking forward to it anyway. Have a good day Guardians

Enjoy your stroll Jack:). Very nice photo of your HHB; looks awesome in the sun light:thumbsdown:
A pleasure my friend :) I don't know how the old TEW Works looks today, but it is no longer owned by Taylor's, and is currently being transformed into yuppie flats, with parts of the building being demolished :( For anyone here who hasn't seen the old factory, there are some pics in this thread here

I sure hope this old poem on one of the corner stones survives. When TEW were trying to get rid of the building, with an aim to get it demolished by contesting its listed building status, it was convenient for them to pretend that the date on the poem was an "old forgery", and perhaps they were even genuinely ignorant. In fact, the stone was taken from the nearby Debtor's Prison, which was demolished prior to the TEW factory being built

What a great old stone - hope it survives.

Thanks a lot Bill, I think that was about the only sunshine we had! :D It's a real shame that stone hasn't being preserved better, and that TEW didn't take a more responsible position as regards it :(

The writing reads as follows:

My God, my Father while I stray,
Far from my home on life rough way,
Oh teach me from my heart to say,
Thy will be done, Thy will be done.

If Thou should call me to resign,
What most I prize, it ne'er was mine,
O only yield Thee what is Thine,
Thy will be done...

The poem/prayer is dated, and pre-dates the building of the works, which some (TEW) have used to excuse it as 'forgery', while others have regarded it as a mistake, and 'corrected' it. The truth is that the stone was carved while it was in a different location. I've photographed it several times, but it has often been covered in graffiti, and it is now very worn, so it's hard to get a good photograph. I wish I'd taken a rubbing. If an old Sheffield history buff hadn't shown it to me, and told me about its history, when I was a young man, I possibly wouldn't know it was there
Sunny start to the day here in NC😎. Going out to the links to this morning and chase around the little white ball🏌️‍♂️. When I get back I'll be doing some clean-up of our shrubs (with the help from my HHB:)) in preparation for the new owners of my former residence:thumbsup:.

Nice to see you're getting some sunshine Bill, have fun out out on the links :) It's been raining hard here all day, but I went out for coffee with my pal and his little 'un, Idris, who is such a sweet kid. Hoping to meet up with the whole family at the weekend, if the weather allows it
