Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

The rain is finally starting let up, we have electricians here working on getting 220 to the dock for the new lift. They have been sitting at the “Dam Bar” waiting out the rain, hope they haven’t been drinking too many of my beers!😉
Not sure what kind of wood this is but I do like the color and grain, and of course the blade!😉👍0235682A-028F-429A-88C4-BA9C4C4871AD.jpeg

Good luck Todd :) Cool pic  I think it is Rosewood mate, the colour and character vary a fair bit, but it is the mainstay of the Sheffield cutlers today, and that manufacturer in particular

You would be surprised how many times that sort of invite has turned into me being shown the door. 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 followed by the words " And Don't Come Back. ";)
Then you'll fit right in!!😁🍻
Looks like a friendly face to me, even obscured by the mask!
....my wife makes me wear a mask even at home😷😖🤣

Looks great, Jer!👍
Summer is officially here so it's time for the beach and other fun times. I collected these shells while stationed on Diego Garcia B.I.O.T.. They set the "Big-un" off nicely.

Nice, Ed! You Navy guys always had great beaches handy!😎👍 I had made several trips to Key West where we were part of a Joint Task Force with the Navy and Coast guard. I was at Orlando at the time, and most of our neighbors were Navy, had some great grilling parties with them!
Well guys it's a tough job but somebodys gotta do it! Service call to a mooring.View attachment 1588547
What a great job!😎👌
Red has been a surprisingly polarizing color in the past week so I thought I would show off my glennbad special - crimson bone with some exceptional jigging. Shown here with my "man with no name" big 'un - I think I will call him Clint.

Kefe5rO.jpg
Fine lookers, Dylan! Although the red could fade to dark some!!🤣👍
Many thanks Dennis :) It's great to see you there buddy, hope you're doing well, great pics :)
Thanks, Jack!!
I have set up lots of interoperability communications when I was working, a lot of different agencies to work with!
My grandmother was a good cook, but she didn't pass that on to her daughter, who was the worst cook imaginable! Flicking through the fat=speckled book, produced in the times of post-WW2 austerity, I don't recall seeing many of the simple cakes and pastries described, but I do remember my mother's terrible version of a swiss-roll, which looked nothing like the version here, with its dry-tasting, inch-thick sponge, and a smidgen of jam! :D I am SO glad to have survived childhood! :D ;)

😁 Food is certainly prepared differently today, and not all women were good cooks. But now with such a massive variety of fast food and restaurants around, I think quality cooking at home is becoming a lost skill.

recently acquired this gem. What a gorgeous knife. Great action on this one. Superb tribute to the Sheffield era lambs. Nice work Charlie and GEC.
What an incredibly lucky find! Congratulations!🙂👍
This week seems to have gone very fast, despite the long hours. Friday tomorrow, and I'm thinking of carrying this J jsdistin re-build gifted to me by Reaper AL :)

What a dandy, Jack!😎👍
I don't understand how weeks can simply disappear...must be some kind of chronological phenomenon!!🤯
You have different starts to your seasons, ours start on the first of the month, i have no idea why.😕
For me, it starts when it hits 80° Farenheit and higher. 🥵😖
Nice photo, José!🙂
Food rationing was officially over by the time I was a nipper, but not in our house! :D Ironically, the first job my mother had after leaving school was in the catering department of one of Sheffield's department stores. She was sacked after 2 days! :D

I can answer that, and i am not being derogatory in any way. It was how they were taught to do things, those skills, or lack of, were just taught to the next generation, but when they got it right, boy did they get it right. I remember my grandmothers baking skills, her sponge cakes were that light they had to be tied down. Any my Auntie made the best ice-cream ever, like nothing you can buy now.
It is interesting to see how some cooking styles are passed on by generations and perhaps dictated by regions. For us, it was part of being in a mining and ranching area. Lots of pinto beans, and maybe poached deer when things got too lean.
Shortly after I posted this morning, I made good on my word and pocketed my HHB and headed out the door for an early morning (a few minutes shy of 6AM) walk/hike with my dog. In a nod to CelloDan , here's my lambsfoot along for a walk in nature:

A little over 2 miles in (1 of that on trails) and 500 ft up, Tucker and I had ourselves a fantastic view.

Great post, Greg! Nice shot of your HHB, and what a fine looking dog Tucker is!😎👍
Hope everyone has made it through the week OK, and that you have something exciting, or just relaxing, for the weekend. As planned, I slipped this J jsdistin re-build in my pocket today :) Have a good day everyone

Such a cool looking little Lambsfoot, Jack! Hope you had a great Fritag!!
I always think of this wee booklet as my mother's 'Baking Bible', but actually looking through a copy, there's very little I'm familiar with  We did have pancakes once a year! :D ;)

🤣
I can't cook much, but I do try to make omelets for breakfast to suprise the wife...you should see the look on her face!!😁👌😂
RALF and Yours Truly (who's mug is on the mug!) are enjoying some excellent Kona coffee this morning.

Great photo, Jeff, nice way to start the day!
I'm sure many folks here remember Greg WhittlinAway WhittlinAway 's stunning photos from his recent Yosemite hike :) Greg very kindly sent me a couple of souvenirs, which arrived, in record time, today. I love maps, and will enjoy studying this one  Many thanks Greg, you're a great pal :)

I like the grainy goodness there, Todd! Nice photo!

That does remind me of a joke my son heard when he was a kid.

"What did one fish say to the other fish when he hit a wall?" "Dam!" 😶😀

The HHB again today.

You're not kidding Dennis, I have two sets of neighbours who get takeaway delivered every single day, sometimes more than once, and I see people buying their veg already chopped up for them in the supermarket  I corrected a radio host for using the expression 'cooking from scratch' a couple of years back - 'You mean COOKING?'! :D ;)

Lots of poaching went on during the big 1984-85 miners strike here, just rabbits for the most part, but they filled some empty bellies
Such a cool looking little Lambsfoot, Jack! Hope you had a great Fritag!!

Thanks again my friend :) I have never tried to make an omelette in the style my mother would very occasionally make them, and doubt I could pull it off! They were as thin as a sheet of sand-paper! :D Honestly, the first time I heard the phrase 'home-cooked meal' used, I thought it was a disparaging remark! :D
That does remind me of a joke my son heard when he was a kid.

LOL! :D You're on form today Dennis, put a big smile on my grumpy old face! :D And a great pic of your Hartshead Barlow too :)

I've been worn out the past couple of days. It's not even 9.00pm yet, and I could easily go to bed! :D Starting my hike from a small village called Shadwell, which for some reason always makes me think of this scene from the film Billy Liar, which was filmed not too far away :D

After a couple of days without it, I'm pining for my Hartshead Barlow :) Have a great Saturday Guardians, and I'll try to catch up with you when I get back from my hike :)

Thing is mate, a lot of people now want everything yesterday. o_O

Now you have planted an idea, it is 6.35am on Saturday, i was wondering what to conjure up for breakfast, omelette it is.🤝
You and all the guardians have a good weekend, and hope everyone who wants one likes the poll result, just saw the numbers.

That IS a funny joke Dennis! 😄 Well, the electricians finished and left no signs of empty beer cans!😂
Love the HHB. 😉👍

Wow, record time indeed! Glad you're enjoying it, my friend!

😂

Great post, Greg! Nice shot of your HHB, and what a fine looking dog Tucker is!😎

Thank you kindly, Dennis. Tucker's a good hiking companion. Part of that goal of that hike was to tire him out for the day, but I think I barely put a dent in his reserves. :)

...
What a grand herd of Lambsfoot, GT! Hope to see more post from you here! The other threads are just too fast for me to keep up!🤯

Have a great Thursday!
Thanks, Dennis. :) I hope I can start posting more frequently here for the next few months at least.
You and your stag HHB are a photogenic pair! I can't decide which of you is better-looking! ;)😁

Certainly a notable pair of lambsfoot examples, Dylan!:thumbsup::cool:
The red jigged bone from glennbad is outstanding, and big old "Clint" just exudes character!

I go back to work soon (after having three months of bonding leave!), so I've been trying to knock out as many chores as possible lately... I'm gotta do some catching up with the thread, I'm getting behind!

Saturday, Sunday, and Monday are supposed to bounce between 90 and 100 degrees so I'm busting out the yard work today. I figured I'd bring a good friend along to help deadhead the roses/lilacs and snag some peony blooms. :)

This makes me sad. When we, as a society, lose touch with the preparation of our food, we lose touch with the ingredients and the source of those ingredients: the farmers and ranchers, their agricultural practices, and the land itself. We also lose touch with our history and traditions. This is all very much to our collective detriment.

I fully understand that some people can neither afford nor spare the time to cook the majority—or even a portion—of their meals from scratch. I have no quarrel with them and do not for a minute want to add to their burden. I do wish, though, that society as a whole would recognize the ill effects of our current state of industrialized food production and start prioritizing the health of ourselves, our local economies, and the planet over the cheapest possible fast food burger.

Time to take a breath and a break with an improvised cocktail of gin, homemade candied kumquats, orange bitters, and a splash of soda water ;) :

Ironically, while I was drafting this message, this arrived:

4FDB4ADD-20B1-47E1-8783-FFBE3FBC3B9F.jpeg

An assortment pack of Lay's potato chips as a thank you from a thoughtful coworker for all the hard work I've been putting in. I do enjoy crunchy, fatty, salty snacks and these will not last long!

I'm not against the occasional processed food or snack or restaurant meals. In fact, I was on an international flight once and they offered for purchase a snack of Pringles and red wine and I thought it was brilliant! Hadn't I had food poisoning at the time I would have purchased at least one round. I just wish that it wasn't some people's only viable option.

Sorry for the rant. Have a great weekend everyone!
