Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Hola, Los Guardianes.

I hope you’re all having a pleasant Saturday evening (or morning, or whatever, depending on where you are).

cudgee cudgee - Oil the joints USA tang stamp? Very cool. What knife is that?

I’m loving this big’un. The wood has lots of cracks and crazes in it and the colors are very handsome. It has a big stripe of a very blonde color running through the mark side. Got a patina building slowly from slicing apples.

ETA - it actually also has a dark stripe next to the blond one. Reminds me of a Black & Tan.

That's some serious fungus!😂
Have a great day, Jack!
Now you have planted an idea, it is 6.35am on Saturday, i was wondering what to conjure up for breakfast, omelette it is.🤝
You and all the guardians have a good weekend, and hope everyone who wants one likes the poll result, just saw the numbers
😄👌
Sounds like a plan!
you have a beautiful Hartshead!
Thank you, Jeff!👍
Great pic of your HB stag, Dennis.;)👍👍
Gracias, José!😎👍
As a native Kentuckian, I should prefer bourbon to Scotch…but either of these works just fine for me.

Looking good!
Variety is the spice of life!👍
pair! I can't decide which of you is better-looking! ;)😁
The Lambsfoot......definitely the Lambsfoot!😄👍
Light fluffy omelette went down a treat. :p :p :p
I see one in my future! Maybe a nice Sunday brunch!😎☕🍳🥓
This makes me sad. When we, as a society, lose touch with the preparation of our food, we lose touch with the ingredients and the source of those ingredients: the farmers and ranchers, their agricultural practices, and the land itself. We also lose touch with our history and traditions. This is all very much to our collective detriment.
The pace of this deliberate de-skilling has been breathtaking! 😠
There's a saying "It's a hard way to go, but a good way to know, the way the old folks did.". Those skills are still needed, we could be just one disaster away from loosing much of these "modern conveniences"!
Time to take a breath and a break with an improvised cocktail of gin, homemade candied kumquats, orange bitters, and a splash of soda water ;) :

Well, you got to treat yourself sometimes!😁👍
Well said Whittlin! Everything in moderation is what I was always taught. Except maybe knife collecting. 🙄
Todd
😁👍 Got to have a stress outlet!!
My Grandpa—to this day the finest man I've ever met—used to say that often: "everything in moderation and nothing to excess." If he'd had a lambsfoot, he would have been satisfied with just the one. And used it and maintained it.

I probably should reflect on that before buying any more knives....
Hope it's a very short reflection! The Forum knife is coming up! 😀
Today it will be my HHB in the pocket. Gave it a good sharpening and man does it ever take an edge.

Nice, Bill. They are little lasers with very little effort!
I've been "restricted " to minimizing gluten, so it's Cheerios and Chex for cereal, and smoothies with yogurt, blueberries, bananas and...(cough cough) blackstrap molasses 😡.
But your morning Lambsfoot looks good!🙂👍
I couldn't get a good pic of the cygnets, but there were eight of them altogether

Nice!
Look forward to the end result, Leon!😎👌

Looks good, Will! Now I'm thirsty!😎👍

It looks like you had a very pleasant time in the lovely countryside!
It was a nice hike JJ, hope you're having a lovely weekend Yourself :)
Had to get this thread back to it's rightful position, on Page One.🤫. A while back i mentioned about my project to make my own sharpener, here is an update. I am just waiting for a couple of parts to arrive, then should be completed this week. I may do some more tinkering, i will wait to see how it turns out, i have already made quite a few changes from my original idea. Hope you are all having a good weekend. :).

Good save Leon! :) That's a very cool project, thanks for sharing it here. I can't wait to see how it turns out  I feathered a load of wood to get a fire going last night, so I might give my Hartshead Barlow a tickle today ;)

Looks good Ant :) I think a lot of folks, Sheffielders in particular, fail to properly appreciate Rosewood, simply because it is inexpensive and widely available on Sheffield knives, but it does have its own subtle character, and can be very attractive wood :) I like the Rosewood on my Big 'Un

Thanks a lot pal, hope you're having a great weekend :)

You're right Dennis, and it would necessarily have to be a major disaster, it could just be a 'minor' one, such as losing a job, or a power failure  Heck, in the case of some of my neighbours, if they lost their mobile phone, they wouldn't be able to call KFC, and might starve to death! ;) :D

It wasn't bad mate, things are quieter now that folks can go shopping again! :D There were a few of those little tree houses in those woods, apparently some old feller did them during the first lockdown here

Looking good amigo :)

Good morning, hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend :) I've got some work to do today, but not too much I hope ;) Hope everyone else has something more interesting to do, and that you have a great Sunday :) Another pic from my hike yesterday

That is it's beauty in it's own right. Each piece is different and has it's own character. Some are simply stunning and some can be a bit plain. It is a bit like when you were a kid going into a " Lucky Dip ", you did not know what you were going to get and sometimes your were left a bit flat, and sometimes you were over the moon. I personally have not got any rosewood Sheffield knives that i don't like, but 2 were outstanding when i got them, one in particular, they were just 2 beautiful pieces of wood, and anyone who has seen them all say the same. Happy Days. :)

Thanks Leon, I have seen plenty of plain ones, but the wood is attractive enough, and occasionally you find one with a bit more character. Sounds like you got a lucky dip mate :) Possibly the nicest I've had was this one that I gifted to Charlie :)

Here's one in darker African Rosewood, I managed to get 10 of these made up from some old stock. This one was the giveaway prize when the Guardians thread reached 2,000 pages :)

So true Dennis, just have to make sure the collecting itself doesn’t become stressful! 😄👍

You’re going to need a bunch more of those Jack, this thread may never end! 😄

Hope the weather clears up soon Todd :) Nice edge on your Lamb
Thanks Jack, that’s one of the knives Modoc ED Modoc ED gifted me. When I sharpen, I consider it a “win” as long as I don’t ruin the edge! 😄 Can’t take any credit for this one, this is how it was when Ed sent it to me, all I’ve done is stropped it. 👍
It is supposed to rain off and on all day today. No worries though, my wife and I are taking a friend to the airport in St. Louis and then stopping for Margaritas at our favorite Mexican place, we’ll just have to sit inside instead of on the patio! 😉👍

Are we showing off our rosewood today? It's not highly figured, but sometimes a simple brown wood is perfect.

I must admit that I was actually a bit relieved when the big freeze of February killed the giant sago. That corner of the yard has been out of control, and I planned to wait until next Fall to clear it out, since it's so sharp and prickly I want two layers of long sleeves on to do it.

Sigh. That dead stuff really should get lobbed off before the new fronds flare out.

This week I've been carrying this old thing as my Lambsfoot of the Week. It's my 2017 horn Guardians lambsfoot that I call Lam Jack (thanks, mrknife mrknife ), pictured when almost new:

If we are demonstrating Guardian esprit de corps by showing off our rosewood today, here are a couple that I have. A basic rosewood swayback model that my wife and daughter bought for me in York, England:

A few years ago I read the book Cræft: An Inquiry Into the Origins and True Meaning of Traditional Crafts by Alexander Langlands. A profound point that he makes is that, not only are we losing the knowledge and skills involved in some of these traditional means of work, but we are also losing the knowledge that those methods ever existed.

That’s a scary thought.

Well, you got to treat yourself sometimes!😁👍

In moderation, of course! ;)

Hope it's a very short reflection! The Forum knife is coming up! 😀

Indeed it is and I did put my name in as being interested. So, I’ll probably have one for at least a spell. I do see myself continuing to downsize my collection though, and let others have a go at the ones I thought I’d like and use, but are now sitting idle.

None of my lambsfoot flock isn’t going anywhere, though!

Your HHB is looking good, Greg!😎👍

Thank you! Jack did such a great job having them produced, didn’t he?

Who knew that lambs could climb trees? We certainly have ample evidence of it in this thread! :D

I always like seeing your rosewood big ‘un! Bummer about the return of the sago. Good luck on the rest of the cleanup.
