Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Every year I have to teach High School students how to read the wall clock, and use a ruler, and a protractor, and a compass (drawing circles)... sad world these days.
My 3rd grandchild, now 18, attempts to impress us with quasi-calligraphy. None of my grandchildren have been taught cursive handwriting. None of them have a clue what to do with a slide rule. I don't think they would know what to do with log tables either.

I was about to shake my head Mel, but I have to confess that, after 45 years without using log tables, I'm not entirely sure I would know what to do with them either! :D I do still own a set though, as well as a slide rule

Pocketing my Hartshead Barlow again tomorrow :) Have a great weekend Guardians

We had world class lightning last evening. I love watching it. Very little rain. Looks like the weekend will be ok. Have my HHB with me. All is well in my world.

LOL! :D We've all had it! :D

I had a day of minor disasters  The weather forecast completely changed overnight, and they STILL got it wrong 😠 I went across the city to have breakfast at a place a couple of friends have opened. Some businesses really hit the ground running, others take a little while to find their feet, but there was absolutely nothing right about this place! The service was terrible, the location totally lacking in atmosphere, the prices high, the food poor, and the coffee rotten! We left hungry, and found a place nearby, where we had decent, if vastly overpriced, cake, but poor coffee. We went on to Kirkstall Abbey, a ruined Cistercian abbey, and a grade 1 listed ancient monument, to which the public supposedly have access each day. Only upon arrival, did we discover that we would not be able to visit the abbey, because instead they had let the extensive ruins to some local shysters who were charging admission for the opportunity to buy overpriced candy and hot-dogs, while listening to muzak that would make an elevator cry from shame - something they could have done anywhere! Then the rain started! 🤯 We headed for a bus home, which then broke down, and no sooner had I rang the pub, where we had intended to finish the day, because of the inclement weather, when the rain stopped  What a day!

Good job I can zoom in on my camera

I was just about to grab a shave, and settle down with a beer, when one of the neighbourhood kids turned up to ask me if I'd help him make a stick. He had a nice straight piece of hazel, which I could see wouldn't take much work, but he wanted a compass fitting. We decided how long he wanted it, and I notched it with my Charlie Lamb. He said, "That seems a good idea, carrying a knife." So after I went and got my saw, and a few other simple tools, we had a chat about that. I cut the stick to size, and he sensibly decided to keep the bark on. I used a gimlet, and the awl on another knife to make a hole for a lanyard, and let him pick some paracord. He gave his stick a couple of coats of linseed oil, and we're going to fit the compass and ferrule tomorrow, and finish it off Friday. He's just joined the Scouts, and is wanting a pocket-knife for his birthday. I told him to ask his folks, and if he gets permission, I'll give him one

That’s great, Jack! Hopefully his parents approve.

When I was in elementary school (early 90’s), they only taught us cursive handwriting for a year or two, around 3rd and 4th grade if I remember correctly. After that it wasn’t taught or required. So for the longest time, my cursive looked like an 8-year-old’s. 😁 It would probably still be that way, but a few years ago I briefly got into fountain pens, and practiced enough to at least somewhat improve my cursive. Still, my default handwriting is a sort of print-cursive hybrid, and I don’t see myself ever switching to “proper” cursive.

I’ve got my 2018 Ebony Guardians Lambsfoot with me today. No fountain pens — I still like them, but find them a bit impractical for everyday use.

By the sound of it, you might have been better off going there for a feed, except they were closed. You didn't have much luck in the chow down dept.. Their are those out there who should not even think about being in the food and hospitality business, they get one go, and one go only at shafting me, i refuse to go back. And don't ya just love it when some new hot trendy joint just opened puts down a white plate the size of a car hub cap, with a tiny piece of what they perceive to be a meal in the center, and want to charge you 50 quid for it, " Yeah Right ", Don't think so.🤣🤣🤣✌️, inverted the other way around.;)
