Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Hope you're still having a good one Bill :)

You too Mike :) Nice pic

You lucky sausage! :D What a great start to the day :)

LOL! :D We've all had it! :D

I had a day of minor disasters  The weather forecast completely changed overnight, and they STILL got it wrong 😠 I went across the city to have breakfast at a place a couple of friends have opened. Some businesses really hit the ground running, others take a little while to find their feet, but there was absolutely nothing right about this place! The service was terrible, the location totally lacking in atmosphere, the prices high, the food poor, and the coffee rotten! We left hungry, and found a place nearby, where we had decent, if vastly overpriced, cake, but poor coffee. We went on to Kirkstall Abbey, a ruined Cistercian abbey, and a grade 1 listed ancient monument, to which the public supposedly have access each day. Only upon arrival, did we discover that we would not be able to visit the abbey, because instead they had let the extensive ruins to some local shysters who were charging admission for the opportunity to buy overpriced candy and hot-dogs, while listening to muzak that would make an elevator cry from shame - something they could have done anywhere! Then the rain started! 🤯 We headed for a bus home, which then broke down, and no sooner had I rang the pub, where we had intended to finish the day, because of the inclement weather, when the rain stopped  What a day!

Good job I can zoom in on my camera

Looks good Ken
That’s great, Jack! Hopefully his parents approve.

When I was in elementary school (early 90’s), they only taught us cursive handwriting for a year or two, around 3rd and 4th grade if I remember correctly. After that it wasn’t taught or required. So for the longest time, my cursive looked like an 8-year-old’s. 😁 It would probably still be that way, but a few years ago I briefly got into fountain pens, and practiced enough to at least somewhat improve my cursive. Still, my default handwriting is a sort of print-cursive hybrid, and I don’t see myself ever switching to “proper” cursive.

I’ve got my 2018 Ebony Guardians Lambsfoot with me today. No fountain pens — I still like them, but find them a bit impractical for everyday use.

We are in negotiations Barrett! :D ;)

When I think back to my school-days, it was the same here Barrett. When I went to secondary school, I don't recall them caring how you wrote. I was having the same discussion with WhittlinAway WhittlinAway recently. Unlike myself, he has managed to maintain fine handwriting :) Your 2018 Guardians SFO looks very handsome there my friend :)
By the sound of it, you might have been better off going there for a feed, except they were closed. You didn't have much luck in the chow down dept.. Their are those out there who should not even think about being in the food and hospitality business, they get one go, and one go only at shafting me, i refuse to go back. And don't ya just love it when some new hot trendy joint just opened puts down a white plate the size of a car hub cap, with a tiny piece of what they perceive to be a meal in the center, and want to charge you 50 quid for it, " Yeah Right ", Don't think so.🤣🤣🤣✌️, inverted the other way around.;)
Even though the chippy was closed, there are many other cafes nearby, where we'd have gotten a better feed mate. Cafes, restaurants, and takeaways are the most common new business here, and most close within the year. I'm always happy to support friends, and good luck to them, but if they don't pull their socks up, I don't think they have a chance of surviving. Who is going to pay £5.50 for a slice of toasted supermarket 'sourdough', which has sat around so long it's gone cold, with a couple of spoonfuls of microwaved mixed beans on top?! We were the only customers, there were half a dozen staff on, and we still waited more than 45 minutes. The coffee was so bad I didn't want a second cup. We were thinking of going there for Sunday lunch (an arm and a leg), but after that experience, definitely not!
I hope you got into the pub all right at the end of the day.

Sadly not Jer, you have to book into everywhere here at the moment, and I had booked outside seats in a nice pub near the abbey we had hoped to visit. When we couldn't get into the abbey, and then the rain started, I rang the pub to see if we could get covered seating, but it was fully booked :( I did have some beer at home though ;) I'm glad you're not going thirsty yourself my friend :D :)
Looking good Jody  :)

Good morning Guardians, I have a friend who moved away from Leeds, where I live, about 10 years ago. He usually visits a few times a year, but because of the pandemic, I haven't seen him for over 18 months. We are meeting up for breakfast though - well, SECOND breakfast ;) I'm sure it'll be a much better breakfast than the one I had yesterday, and hopefully we'll have time for a couple of pints before my mate has to catch the train back home :) Hope everyone is having a great weekend, and that you enjoy your Sunday :) Think I'm going to fancy up my pockets today ;)

Same here mate, i wonder that our economy is reliant on people drinking coffee and eating over priced tomato rolls, they put a slice of tomato on a Chiabatta Roll and charge double, still a tomato roll. But seriously, a lot of the complaining when we were in lockdown was from the hospitality sector, and it seemed to get most of the media coverage. Even over here when you were in lockdown it was all about pubs and cafes, seems fraught with danger to me.

Yeah, exactly so Leon

Back in the early 90's, when I was first self-employed, I did a business course, which was mainly about boring things like paying taxes and such ;) At that time, the number one start-up business here was fish and chip shops, but most folks who bought them hadn't a clue how to fry fish and chips, they just figured it couldn't be that hard. The same guy who taught the business course taught another course specifically about teaching people how to run a fish and chip shop! :D Of course most folks didn't learn  Now, they are fast disappearing. In the centre of Leeds, there are only 3 chippies left, and two of those are in precincts, so only open during the day :(

cudgee cudgee i do enjoy sharpening. I rarely freehand anymore too much pain in hands and fingers after. I use a wicked edge sharpening system and a strop on a block now.

That's pretty sad.
I found fish and chips a little daunting even to order. "Haddock, plaice, or sole?" I don't know. Those are all fish, I believe? I went for haddock, probably because of the Marx Brothers' password bit. And Dover sole is a delicacy, I remembered from ten years earlier.

Wow. At least the pubs are doing well.
The Hangar Bar and Grill is still down; they're talking about September. Main Street Pub is doing just fine, though.

A fancy one that, Jack. Beautiful knife. Hope that breakfast you had was a good one:). Not sure exactly what I'm going to have but because of the pandemic I haven't been as active as I normally am so it will most likely be fruit of some kind:rolleyes:. I started a new project; refinishing a vintage air gun stock. I needed to mask off the checkering panels so as to keep them intact when I sand😉. Trimming off the tape usually requires an X-Acto knife or other razor sharp tool. I opted for my HHB and it worked perfectly:thumbsup:. Great control and precision. Certainly a different job than cutting up cardboardo_O. The wood is really nice European Walnut and the air gun is a Weihrauch HW55M:thumbsup:. The metal parts are all out for a professional re-blue and I will re-assemble it all with period correct leather seals and it will brought back to it's former glory😁. A truly magnificent piece of hardware made in 1969. There aren't many made today that can match it in quality/craftmanship:).IMG_3018.JPGIMG_3017.JPG

Sounds like fun Jack, hope you have a great time. It’s always fun meeting up with friends, especially the one that when you see them you just pick up where you left off! 😊👍

You lived here in the days when 'fish 'n' chips' were about our only 'street food' Jer :D It was always mainly cod or haddock in the north, you didn't really see anything else unless you went to a restaurant, or went to the coast. That's a cool belt buckle there with your Big 'Un  :)
Good morning Guardians 😊
Carrying my HHB today 👍😎 as I camp and boat along the Rideau

Thanks Bill :) Breakfast was different to yesterday, but not really much better. The guy forgot about our order, then got the order wrong. When we eventually got it, it was a rather a strange breakfast, and cold. A lot of places here are complaining the pandemic is putting them out of business, (despite receiving heavy subsidies for the past 18 months). Maybe, if they don't buck their ideas up, some of them DERSERVE to go out of business! We had a couple of expensive pints afterwards - mediocre beer served in plastic glasses

A Lambsfoot replaced my X-acto knife too Bill  That's a really nice air-gun you have there my friend, can't wait to see it finished  :)

Thanks Todd, I had a nice time despite the poor cuisine :)
