Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Good morning Guardians, hope your week has got off to a reasonable start. Pretty dull here today, but at least it's not raining ;) Sticking with my Hartshead Barlow

Have a good day everyone

Very nice photo of your HHB Jack.

I took these yesterday outside of our church. I was picking up a couple of boxes and saw a big limb down from a tree that overhands our parking lot. Thankfully it fell in a good spot. Pretty big limb! I don't think I'll be parking under that tree anymore. . .

Edit: by the way, I landed that part-time job!

I thought that was a whole tree that had fallen over from the first photo! 😲 The Lambsfoot in the second helps give a sense of scale (I didn’t even see the Lambsfoot in the first photo until just now); still, I wouldn’t want to be standing (or parked) under that when it came down!

It's a long time since I let someone use my knife, I figure if a guy is too stupid to own one himself, he's too stupid to be using mine 😒

That’s my philosophy exactly, Jack, although I’ve never put it into words quite as well as you have there. 🤣 The last thing you need is to lend some idiot your Lambsfoot and have it come back a Tanto.

After a mineral oil bath and buff and polish with Renwax.

Would love your input and opinions, good or bad, i take criticism very well, i'm used to it.

Looks good to me, Leon. I like the coloring on the back; reminds me of an acorn squash.

Thanks buddy, I've got some things to do at home today, but it's red wine, pasta, and Sopranoes night tonight this week :D ;)

I’ve watched The Sopranos a couple times now, and in addition to red wine and Italian food, I find that I smoke more cigars than I normally would during the time I’m watching it. 😁

Absolutely beautiful old knives, Rob!

I'm glad I ate before meeting my pal, as it turned into a session ;) They called this a 'Texas Jack' a large hotdog, topped with pulled pork and cheese, chilli fries, and ginger beer

Spotted this sign in Leeds market :D

That looks like my kind of meal, Jack! 😁 I’m with r8shell r8shell , just needs a couple jalapeños on top.

Good morning Guardians, I had a very pleasant boozing session with my mate yesterday, sat outside the Duck & Drake in the sunshine, drinking ice-cold Newcastle Brown :) It's not often you get an October evening in Yorkshire, where you can sit comfortably outside in a T-shirt  Great to catch up with my pal, who tells me the long-handled slashers made the trip to Poland :D Sadly, it might be a while before I see him again, but not too long I hope

Glad to hear you had a nice time with your friend, Jack. The fall weather’s been the same here in MN so far, warmer than it should be. In previous years we might see a little snow by mid-October, but this year I’m still wearing shorts! 😁

Speaking of Poland, just yesterday I was checking the tracking on a package headed to our friend Jolipapa Jolipapa and saw an update that said it had just arrived in Warsaw! I’m not sure how they managed to overshoot France by so much! 😳

Haha! I actually agree with you, but I'm obligated as a naturalized Texan to say the "no beans in chili" thing whenever the opportunity arises. 😄
(and even though traditionally, Texas style chili has no beans, I can't believe that poor folk didn't sometimes put them in to stretch the meat)

I like beans if I’m eating a bowl of chili, but prefer it without for a chili dog or Frito chili pie. 🙂

Altberg boots are excellent. Some of their range are made in Yorkshire and some in I think it's either Italy or Romania. They're the current manufacturer for the current British Army assault boot.

They do deliver abroad but Lord knows how the conversion for boot sizes between countries would work out. Before I recently bought a replacement pair for these one's (Altberg Tethera) I e-mailed Altberg to ask them if they'd changed their sizes, (as many footwear manufacturers have in recent years) and was told they hadn't and that they still used the original lasts. But on receipt of the the new boots found they didn't fit and had to replace them. If your not ordering in the UK that could be quite a bind to sort out.

Those look like excellent boots, David. Seems like full leather hiking boots are rare these days. I bought my current pair maybe 10 years ago, and while they’ve got plenty of life left in ‘em, I was dreading the day when I’d eventually have to replace them. Thankfully I was poking around online a while back and found an outdoor shop with the same pair (they had recently been discontinued) in my size, so now I have a backup pair waiting in the closet. 🙂

That's really annoying about the Altberg sizing though, I've had exactly the same thing happen myself. Footwear sizing is really all over the place, and there's also a difference between British feet and European feet (not sure where American feet fit in), which has often caused issues with imported boots. My shoe size is a British 11, but I often find myself having to go up to a '13' or more in a boot, because they've got the sizes completely wrong

Shoe sizing can be irritating, can’t it? I wear a US 13, which can at least be found in most shoes (though just barely, depending on the brand), and a 46 in Birkenstock’s (don’t judge 😁, I like their clogs for around the house or stepping out to grab the mail).

Hope everyone had a great weekend and start to the week. Enjoying some Thanksgiving Nachos, with a side of Lambsfoot ;)

That’s awesome! 😁 🤣

I think I might have mentioned it before, but there’s a restaurant in Arizona called the Cornish Pasty Co. that sells a Royale with Cheese pasty.

It's after 4.00am in Australia right now, so in a few hours, cudgee cudgee will be waking up to his birthday. Happy Birthday Leon, Many Happy Returns mate :)

Happy birthday, cudgee cudgee !! Jack, did you choose that cake because it’s surrounded by Yorkshire Kit Kats? 😁

Here’s my Rosewood Lambsfoot, with one of the coal-resin fairy doors Jack mentioned recently, which he sent as a gift for Eleanor a few years ago.

that one just looks so right.

Project update, has been bubbling away for 48 hours, the solution is still very active, you can see the bubbles rising to the surface and bursting, but there does not appear to be any dye being removed which surprised me. I think i know why, the lambsfoot that i tried this on showed significant dye removal after 48 hours, but then i remembered i sanded down the covers to make them thinner, this my have opened up the bone. The knife nick opener seemed like it had some sort of maybe polymer coating giving it protection and a shiny appearance. Does that sound logical? So i will just leave it, and see what happens, if nothing does happen, i will remove it, sand it to open up the surface and start again with a fresh solution. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Have a good day everyone.;).

I hope TheJon TheJon is OK, and that he's managed to do something with his Lambsfoot to make a it pocketable again :(

Thanks a lot pal, it was good to catch up with him :) That sounds good Barrett, with the winters we have, it's nice to have a prolonged summer ;) We certainly don't get your cold temperatures, but it sure does rain a lot!

It certainly can my friend, I think we're probably around the same size - if ever you decide to climb Everest, as I have several pairs of NIB double-wall mountaineering boots I certainly don't need! :D ;) Clogs are quite traditional in the north of England! :D

Thanks Jack, wish I was 21 and knew what i know now, " Youth Is Wasted On The Young ".:D:D:D🤝.

I don't know whether or not the bone has some sort of coating, but perhaps a lightly sanded surface gives the solution more to grab onto. I've noticed that a textured steel will get rust spots faster than highly polished.

Thanks Rachell, much appreciated. The bone question is a curly one, the amount of bubbles indicating activity attached to the covers is no difference between sanded and non sanded, but any input you have is appreciated, i always respect your opinion being a craftsman/knife person. I will just leave it for a week, then start again if there is no difference and see what happens then. Have a good day and thanks again.:)

I appreciate the confidence, but I'm really just guessing. :)
