He looked a little scary... I gave him his space.Did you consider doing a Jiki on the Tiki?
That sounds lovely Bill, I hope your get together went wellGood morning Guardians. We've been blessed with several weeks of warmer-than-usual weather here in southern coastal North Carolina. Played golf yesterday near 80 deg F. Today the same weather and it will continue until New Years eve. At least that's what the weather man says-LOL. Normally our temperatures range in the high 50's but who's complaining! Hosting a holiday neighborhood get together this evening and masks are required. I'll be carrying my Bagpipe Ebony.

Good idea John!I think when I retire, I'll track the days by the knife I wake up with.
Wake up and see MIcarta in my pocket, then I know it is Tuesday.
Wake up and see a Two Blade in my pocket, then I know it's Wednesday.![]()
That sounds fantastic John
Yes, things were much better then, but rarely straightforward. I'm sure there are people on the list who think I just had to ring up and place an order (as you might expect), but I always had to make so many trips over to Sheffield, which entailed taking a day off work, and was almost constantly on the phone. If I'd factored in all the extra costs, the knives would have been double the cost. Those samples were for the 2018 SFOs in horn, which I'd originally ordered in what I called 'Peaches & Cream' horn, like this...And this was back when that certain cutler was capable of understanding and doing good work?
If the film is French, it must be too deep for us.
I may have used this pic already.

Thanks! I'm a bit skeptical whether it is really from 1920 or not. I can't make out a lot from the stamp. I can kinda see 'Sheffield' but that's about it.Congratulations Kevin, nice new acquisition thereCan you make out the tang stamp? 1920 is a very exact date

I know the feeling my friend, I love your picSlow morning here in Northern Virginia. I need to get moving and on to work, but I’d rather sit here and drink coffee for a few more hours.![]()
J. Nowill & Sons? Here's a better stamp for you to compareThanks! I'm a bit skeptical whether it is really from 1920 or not. I can't make out a lot from the stamp. I can kinda see 'Sheffield' but that's about it.
Here is a picture of it.

It does kind of look like it. However the stamp on my knife is very small and doesn't take up the full tangJ. Nowill & Sons? Dating Sheffield knives is always very difficult, even to the right decade. Even harder without a manufacturer's name![]()
Tang stamps don't last long, and get re-made all the time Kevin. Most firms had several sizes, and designs vary too. That particular stamp is on a tang smaller than a Lambsfoot tang though. You could try rubbing over the tang-stamp with a pencil and a sheet of thin paper, or adjusting the image settings? The J. Nowill name has been owned by Jack Adams for many yearsIt does kind of look like it. However the stamp on my knife is very small and doesn't take up the full tang
I guess we'll just consider this a 'lost cause' in terms of age and maker. I didn't purchase it for it's age anyway.
I have never heard of "J. Nowill & sons" i think that is the closest as we can get with this one.
Thanks for the help!
I'm gonna try that! Ill post the results!Tang stamps don't last long, and get re-made all the time Kevin. Most firms had several sizes, and designs vary too. J. Adams are still going, but while they sell folders, they don't manufacture them themselves, and so far as I know, never have, having them made for them by other firms.I'm gonna try that! Ill post the results!
Thanks for taking us along with you, I've really enjoyed your pics
Thank you, Jack.Fantastic photos John, your trip must have been a real tonic
I see the AC is starting to hog the pocket a bit.
I love the deep blade stamps, they last so long.
