Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

My first stop in town was the post office, where I went to renew my passport, (which now costs nearly £100 ($134)). I handed over my expired passport, and the lady behind the counter asked where the gold lettering was, on the cover. Since it hadn't been embossed, but rather simply printed on, the lettering had worn off within a few months of my receiving the passport. I was surprised when she told me that this meant the passport was classed as "damaged", and that she couldn't process my application! She gave me a large paper form, and told me that I would have to re-apply for a passport as if I'd never had one before

That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard in a while! 🙄🤣

I just went to a different post office where the staff were more sensible

Great thinking! 😁

By this point it was 11.30am, and I was ready for some pancakes, so I headed to the restaurant that I've been to on Pancake Day before, where they had an "All The Pancakes You Can Eat, All Day!" offer on for £7.45. I can't eat more than 2 or 3 pancakes these days, but it sounded OK to me. My server took the order, and I sat and waited for my first pancakes of the day :) Fifteen minutes later, he returned to tell me that they had run out of pancake batter!!!! What, flour, eggs, and milk??!! The place is almost next door to a supermarket!

Far from happy, I left, and walked to a local creperie, which I used to eat at regularly. I haven't been here for a while, and what a disappointment. The solitary pancakes wasn't much tastier than cardboard, and I don't know where the chicken part of the 'Mexican Chicken' filling was! It both looked, and tasted, like someone had wiped down a thin crepe, with a mildly spicy sauce, out of a jar. Cost me nearly £10, and to add insult to injury, they wouldn't accept cash!

I decided to go and buy some fruit, and I'll make some at home later

Sorry to hear your quest for pancakes was a bust. 🙁

Got the pancake mix out for dinner tonight.
I'll let you know how they turn out, I've never made them myself.

If you need to know how to make ‘em look like Mickey Mouse, just let me know. 😉😁

Unfortunately, cooking isn't one of them... unless it's on a grill.
It's too bad I can't make pancakes in the smoker.

I bet you could do a Dutch baby on the grill or smoker (depending on what kind you have).

Do these pancakes count? 🥞😉😁

I did it! :)
They taste much better than they look. 😂

Well done, John! They look mighty tasty to me.

Didn’t achieve pancakes here, but the ribeye turned out well and my wife made cupcakes for a friend‘s birthday and I got to sample a couple for quality control purposes. :D

I hope the Guardians that observe it had a good Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday/Shrove Tuesday, and Saint David’s day as well.

Can't go wrong with steak and cupcakes. 🤠

I'm with you there, my friend!

One final sweet treat for the evening, but this one not for me. My dad's birthday is coming up and he has both a sweet tooth and a love of spicy food, so I made him a batch of Alton Brown's spicy peanut brittle. Super easy to make and he loves it.

Have a great rest of your week, everyone!

May have messed the mead up! Went to degass it and feed the yeast nutrients. Went to stir it up and it has so much carbonation that it exploded out of the opening. Lost about 1/3rd of it. Just hoping I didn’t contaminate it! 😂😂😂 you live and learn. And don’t do that again in the brand new kitchen…😂😂😂

Thank you, Jack. :)

Sorry your Pancake Day was kind of a bust.
But at least you got out of the house and enjoyed some decent weather.
Thanks John, the day (and the pancakes) got better :) I'm glad I went out, because it is miserable weather here again today
For the moment, less clothes, more Javelins. / Nice weather outside. Alrighty then.
Definitely Harvey
Frustrating, but brilliant that you went for a second opinion.
Yeah, I would have just kept going to different post offices - I'm used to it from posting knives! ;)
When I see any pancake eatery offering this, I run... In the other direction.
Fair point! :D We don't see many 'All you can eat' offers here, but I usually avoid them too, it generally means poor quality food in my limited experience
Pacski Day. Yay!
Fantastic Harvey, your photos are works of art  :)
It looks like your Lamb has been seeing plenty of use Pete
Jack Black Jack Black , that's quite a frustrating day you're having. I hope it improves when you make your own pancakes!
Thanks Greg, it did, had a great evening :)
No pancakes here, but will be grilling a nice ribeye for dinner. I figure that still gives me a good dose of fat this Tuesday. ;)
🤣
In other news, I decided to give Ballistol a try for protecting and lubricating a few knives after it was recommended by the seller of a recent acquisition that shall not be discussed here. The bottle was completely sealed and had to be cut open. Fortunately I carry the perfect tool for that in my pocket.

I oiled the joint before returning it to my pocket. We'll see how it goes.
How do you find it Greg? I sometimes use it. I don't mind the smell, but it is certainly strong! :D My go to is Boker's oil
Edited to mention the correct Jack. 🤦‍♂️
Missed it! :D Thanks Greg

The pancake was ok, but xanthan gum is aptly named.

Great pics Jer :) I had to refresh my memory on what xanthan gum is! :D
Well I’m not much on making pancakes and you can tell by this picture, but I have to say it tasted better than it looks. Have a great day Guardians. 😊🥞View attachment 1755267

Well done John :) Great pancake efforts Guardians  :)
Did I take the last of the leftover Popeye's French fries and make a chip butty for lunch? Why, yes, yes I did. Did I use my lambsfoot knife to make it? Why, yes, yes I did.

Thanks Jack Black Jack Black for introducing me to a fun sandwich and gifting me a good knife.
(Don't worry everybody, we'll be on the Pancake Day train for dinner tonight. Pancakes aren't what I fast from during Lent, but I still don't want to miss an opportunity to have pancakes for dinner.)
LOL! :D Fantastic Tyson, glad you enjoyed your chip butty my friend :)

The manager at that post office has been in post about 10 years now, and she has been an incompetent PITA all that time! 🤨 When she first started, she told me that knives weren't allowed to be sent in the mail, and refused to change her view, even when I showed her the printed leaflet from the post office counter, and a screenshot from their website! 😖 I've been writing 'slipjoint' on the customs form since then! :D She looks at it, and pretends to know what it means! 🤣 As soon as the woman yesterday said, "I'll go and ask the manager", I got ready to go somewhere else
Sorry to hear your quest for pancakes was a bust. 🙁
Thanks mate, I'm just going to have them at home next year! "All you can eat. All day"! 🤣

Oh no! Sorry to hear this Taylor :( I hope that the remaining 2/3 is good, at least :) Great pic of your Hartshead Barlow

Good morning Guardians, fantastic effort on the pancake front folks! :) I was expecting to be eating mine alone last night, but Her Majesty finished work early.

I hadn't planned to make any savoury ones, but as she requested some, I quickly rustled something up. Tasted better than they looked! 🤣

We had a bottle of Australian Chardonnay with the pancakes, but it may have been a mistake to get the Drambuie out, as the temptation to make Rusty Nails proved too great! :D

Here's to a month on the waggon! :( ;) :D

It's miserable weather here today I'm afraid, and I won't be going far, but I can always find plenty to do in the house. Hope everyone has a good day :)

Jack, my favorite mixed drink. I always put a twist of lemon rind in mine too. I'm out of Drambuie and need to make a liquor run to South Carolina where the state taxes and booze prices are much lower. Nice photos of your HHB with the yummy looking food and the liquor.

Good morning Guardians. Missed yesterday's discussions but I'm back today. Yesterday was a golf day and along with today and tomorrow great weather. Hope everyone has a great day today. Recycled photo as the battery in my camera died and needs to be charged.

That looks GREAT Todd  Pancakes ALWAYS taste better than they look! :D
That’s so true, especially the first one. Around our house the first pancake of a batch was always “Dad’s pancake.” I couldn’t taste a difference. 😊

I like your addition of the twist of lemon rind Bill, and was lamenting the fact I didn't have a lemon last night. I decided to bump up the whisky to Drambuie even more than usual! :D ;) Thank you my friend

Hope you had fun Bill :) That's a fantastic pic there :) It also reminds me that I usually try to have at least one pancake with just a squeeze of orange juice and a little sugar, which is how we had them when I was a kid
Your pancakes turned out way better than mine.:thumbsup:
Thanks John, but yours looked great to me :)
