Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Morley is only a 10 minute train journey from Leeds central station, so after having a coffee and a chocolate cookie, I boarded the train...

As my train dropped me off, and departed for its next destination, I realised that some fool had built the station a good mile from the town centre, and at the foot of a steep hill

I trudged up the hill, passing old mill buildings on the way...

At the top of the hill, I was surprised to see that one of the first buildings I came to was the bar my friends own. They used to have one in Leeds, but moved out here sometime during the past couple of years. I called in, and had a chat with the barmaid, telling her I was meeting some other friends there later. She directed me to the high street, which was at the top of another steep hill!

There aren't many British towns or villages, without at least one Chinese takeaway :D Compared to Leeds, Morley is a little old-fashioned :)

I walked past a large war memorial, situated in a park, which looked to be worthy of future exploration...

Finally I reached the brow of the hill!

The high street is similar to ones found in many small northern British towns.

There's a small market too, which seemed to be doing OK

As I walked along the high street, I spotted a sign outside a fish and chip shop, something I've never even heard of before. It sounded slightly disgusting, but might provide a future challenge! :D

I called into a cafe for a second breakfast, but the food wasn't very good, and while I don't mind avocado, I dislike eating anything green before the afternoon

I continued to look around, though I ended up going up and down a few more hills, balking at these precipitous steps!

Eventually, I went back down the hill to Oscar's to meet my friends, before they dragged me back up the hill to another pub. We then went back down the hill for a final pint, and I met one of my friends, who owns the bar, promising to come out to Morley again to see him soon, and descended the first hill I'd climbed up that day, to return to the station. I reckon my calves and knees will ache tomorrow! ;)

I'll be back to my regular Thursday routine tomorrow, with an early trip to the market. It's been 3 weeks since I saw my pal, Tool Man, so I'm looking forward to seeing him :D Going to hang onto my Hartshead Barlow I think :) Have a good Thursday Guardians

Another splendid adventure. Must have felt weird being stared at. Glad you did it anyway.

Wonderful adventure, Jack, intriguing place; but I'm tired from all those hills!! 😂
It's no wonder that Town produced a champion cyclist!!

Jack Black Jack Black a battered chip butty sounds like something you'd find at a county fair around here. I've had battered and deep-fried: mini-cheeseburgers, waffles, potato chips, Kit Kats, and a stick of butter.

Based on my past experiences in this area, I'd guess that a battered chip butty will probably be disgusting, but also embarrassingly tasty. Your soul will feel guilty about it, and your body will feel crappy afterwards.

So: go do it! And let us know how it goes.

Beryl Burton OBE was a trailblazer. That was an era when woman had just begun breaking into mainstream sport. Her records speak for themselves, glad she is being remembered.

Jack the Morley trip was very interesting. These large buildings such as the Morley Town Hall, are they made of cut limestone or granite or what?
