Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Had an interesting day yesterday, i am going to be extremely, and i mean extremely careful what i post here, but i may be around a bit less for a while, and i don't want to cause any reason for a transgression. I was reported for being a troll, and that is all i am prepared to say. So i may give myself some time on the bench, so if i am not around the Guardians much for a while, all is okay. I am not ill or anything like that, just going to take it easy for a while, but everything is OK. :). To all my fellow Guardians, because this is the best thread on the forum, take care and look after yourselves, and remember keep your edges sharp and always oil the joints. I'm just going to have a think about things for a while, but when i do comeback rest assured it is only because of this thread and it's contributors. 😍🤝.

I hope you aren't gone too long, I very much appreciate reading your posts. I am not the most prolific poster, but I keep up so that I can keep up with folks like you cudgee cudgee . Be well, and may your thinking be beneficial.

Well; I finally joined the Lambsfoot clan.

Bought an A. Wright Senator with Rosewood from the classifieds section. I had read the reports of poor Fit / Finish but took a chance and I am glad I did. I am quite please with it. In the sellers photos the rosewood looked rather run of the mill but in person it is nice and with use should start looking even better. Fit wise, the backspring is flush both closed and open which seems to be a rarity with these. The blade isn't perfectly centered but it is not bad at all. I took these (bad ) photos tonight but will take better ones later. I have it sharpened up and now to start using it and getting a patina on it. Hopefully with handling the rosewood grain will start filling in / darkening so it doesn't look so white in the pores.

Well as I’m in travels I don’t have a lamb to share but here are some photos from New Hampshire a little north of Manchester. Gorgeous country, quite rural, with very friendly people I may add.
Very nice pics Pete. I love New Hampshire. Beautiful state. That's where Glennbad hangs his hat ya know.

I'm very sad to read this Leon, we mortals lead a precarious existence ☹️ I hope you're back with us soon my friend, with the wind in your sails once again, and that you take care, and stay safe until then 👍👍

Congratulations, and welcome to the Guardians! 🍻 I hope you enjoy using your new Lambsfoot 🙂 If you read post #1, among other things, you'll find a link to the Guardians World Map 👍

Chill well and come back soon.

Good morning Guardians, hope everyone is doing ok. I'm going to have some breakfast, and then try and hobble down to the docs (I'm more concerned about hobbling back, as it's uphill!) Got Big Rose with me for company 😉 Have a good day everyone 👍

Cudgee, my friend. Not sure who would call you a troll? They obviously don't know you or understand your humor... but we do, and we enjoy it! :)
I understand self-imposed time-outs. I've done a few myself when I started feeling that way. Perhaps do like I do, and just visit the Guardians daily, and forget the rest of the forum for a while.

Very nice, and welcome to the Guardians. 🤠
Flush springs too??? I'd imagine that quite rare, none of mine have had flush springs.
That sure is some beautiful country, Pete. 🤠
I've always wanted to visit that area and see all those cool covered bridges and streams. bigfish64 bigfish64 Todd and I talk about fishing those streams once in a while.
Lamb on Lamb... Brilliant. 🤠
Glad you're getting out and about for a bit. A little walking might help the back anyways, as long as you don't overdo it. Have a great day, my friend. 🤠

That's pretty good advice my friend

Thanks John, I took a walking cane out with me, made a brief visit to the market, and also to the doctor's - earliest appointment to see one in person was September 7th  I'm hoping I didn't overdo it

Good Morning Guardians
I've been Totin' the Charlie Lamb a lot more. It took me a while to get used to its "defect". 😁

It's a looker John, interesting thought, and it ties in with something I picked up today, which I wanted to bring up for discussion again :)

I picked up a few bits and pieces in the market :) I bought the old 'Shoe Knife' because they have been discussed here before, more than once, in the early part of the thread, when we spent a fair bit of time ruminating about the origins of the Lambsfoot pattern. Cobbler's and shoemaker's knives, came in a a number of patterns, some of which were later recycled for 'Lino Knives', but a number of the more common patterns have a straight edge which, like our beloved Lambsfoot knives, is not parallel to the spine. In this case, the spine is straight, without any cant, (a bit like John's Charlie Lamb), with the blade sloping upwards, rather than having the spine sloping down, as is usual with a Lambsfoot. I often wonder, and marvel, at the magic that those special angles bring to the Lambsfoot pattern, why they work so well, and how they came about. These Shoe Knives are a much older pattern than the Lambsfoot, but someone clearly decided that there was an advantage to that blade geometry. I'm not saying that there's any direct connection to the Lambsfoot, I really have no idea, but these knives are the only other traditional knife patterns I know of, which have that combination of a straight edge, and a spine which isn't parallel. Any thought, ideas, insight welcome Guardians

Yes, the knife will get used. I cut up an apple this AM and already started getting a patina.

Yes, I feel quite lucky to have pretty much flush springs

I do have a questionn on the rosewood. As you can see from the photo's the open grain veins look white or light compared to the surface wood. I have rubebd with a little oil but it comes back. Will these eventually darken up with use and absorption of oil grime etc? I would much rather see dark open grain line that the light ones.

The LF I posted above was like that as well when I got it.
I cleaned it really well with some rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush and then gave the handles a wipe with this stuff.

Interesting question  The Rosewood used by that firm varies widely, and that is quite unusual. Rosewood will usually darken quite a bit, with time and use, but not having had an example quite like that, I don't think, I'm afraid I couldn't really say if the lighter wood will darken. I would have guessed it would, but I couldn't really say for certain. Perhaps someone else has had some similar Rosewood, and is better qualified to comment
Morning Guardians, large Rosewood out for a morning walk at the dog park.
