Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

The Tool Man had a good range of tools out today. I told him he needs a pair of red braces to go with that shirt!
He needs one of these to go with the red braces.πŸ˜‚.

In the photo of Tool Man and Barry above, you'll see a cross-beam just above his head. Each block of 4 market stalls has 6 of these, and they vary in height by over a foot. Everybody who spends any time in the market cracks their head on one at some point, and we've even had people knocked unconscious. I've been pretty lucky, it must be the best part of a decade since I last came into contact with one of these beams, but I found one today, just about eye-level, in the blind-spot above the peak of my cap! πŸ˜– The whole stall shook! 😳 In my younger days, I've been hit on, or over, the head with a range of heavy objects, (probably one of the reasons I'm so daft), but that's the nearest I've come to being knocked unconscious! A couple of seconds passed, and I did a slow motion collapse, like I'd just been chinned by a heavyweight with brass knuckles! 😧🀨 Hopefully, I'll be fully recovered after a pie ;) :D

Tool Man just gave me a ring, to see if I was OK, and we were joking about how hard my head hit the stall today! He said it wasn't just the noise of my poor old napper making contact, but the vibration, which he says shook the entire 4 stalls, with everybody in the surrounding area looking to see what on earth was going on! I think I must have just been lucky in not cutting my head, and while I felt a bit strange for a while, I feel OK now
Concussions are no joke, Jack. Pay attention to any symptoms the next few days.

I came across a YouTube video filmed outside the cafe, I had been sat outside there waiting for my friend, and his missus and kids. When they turned up, we stood behind the drummers for a minute, and then walked off towards their house. I'm in the cap, wearing black, 'Beirut' T-shirt, limping badly (appearing first at 2.24, and taking a photo, the photo below)! :D

Nice! πŸ™‚ I liked that the girl in the drumming group (just barely visible in your photo, behind, or rather in front of, the redhead) was wearing shin guards to protect herself from her very large drum.

Great name :) Makes me think of Robert Duvall in Open Range! :D

Thanks Jack. Open Range was a good western.. πŸ‘

It was wasn't it, took me by surprise? :)

That was a surprisingly good western. If I’m remembering correctly, the first time I saw it was at a friend’s house in college, a year or two after it came out. He had just installed a new surround sound system, which gave the shootout a little extra oomph.

I was once introduced to a rather odd man going by the name of 'Bluebell', and immediately put my foot in it by calling him 'Buttercup'! 🀣

🀣🀣

Feeling tired this evening, so I thought I'd just have a cheeseburger and fries :) Secret Aardvark on the side ;)

Well dang, now I want a cheeseburger. 😁

I hope everyone is having a great day :) I called in the docs this morning, not a single patient, one of the doctors hanging about, promised to sort my prescription out for TOMORROW  I managed to get a bus almost directly to the market, and picked up coffee and a couple of doughnuts :)

I've never seen one of these slide-adjustable Crescent wrenches before, and thought they seem a really nice piece of kit

Those donuts are looking pretty good, too! 😁

Nice post, Jack, it’s always fun to the see the Tool Man’s wares. I could’ve used that brush axe in the first photo there earlier this summer. I had bought one made by Fiskars, but it turned out to be one of the things they’ve outsourced the production of (i.e., it wasn’t made in Finland) and the quality was really bad. The (rather cheap looking) blade coating had been applied right over the edge, which made the whole thing about as useful as a oversized butter knife. πŸ™„ I returned it, and made do with a hatchet (also Fiskars, but made in Finland) for the work I needed to do. (Sorry if that’s too close to non-Lambsfoot knife content!)

Hope your head’s feeling alright! 😲

I've had them in the past Pete, and found them very comfortable. They fit my feet :) Unfortunately, the last time I wore some was about 5 years ago. I was going for a walk in an area near a town about 30 miles away from where I live. The weather was good, and I thought 'I don't need boots, I'll put on that pair of Asics I used to run in, I haven't worn them for a few years.' I went over to this town, Wakefield, and had breakfast at a nice cafe, Looking down, I was horrified to see the sole was hanging off one of the shoes! Then I saw the other was just the same. I didn't want to miss my walk, but there weren't many options in this small town, in terms of replacing the Asics. I ended up buying a pair of Salomon trail-running shoes, twice the price of the Asics, and a size down from what I usually wear. I got my walk, but I've only worn those shoes once or twice since, and the Asics got binned, so it was an expensive day!

That’s a shame, Jack. I was reading something recently that said the adhesives used on a lot of modern shoes (including hiking boots) start to break down after a few years, which is why the soles start to come off. Unfortunately I was reading up on it because, near the end of this past winter, I noticed the sole on one of my beloved old boots was starting to separate from the midsole. I've had them for 10+ years now, so I’ve gotten my money’s worth out of β€˜em and then some, and I bought a backup pair of the exact same boots a few years ago when I noticed they stopped making them, but I will say that I am a bit worried that the backup pair, while still new in the box, might not last as long since the adhesive holding them together is already a few years old. Here’s a pic, which I shared here before, of my well-worn old pair after a little TLC last year.

Nice grab from that treasure trove of tools, Jack! πŸ‘

Thanks Todd, I like olives too :) I love pine kernels, but when I use them, it's just with garlic, and good olive oil
That sounds good too! πŸ‘
That's interesting Todd, I have a bunch of knives where I prefer the pile side :D Cool Steam Owl!
Thanks Jack. πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘

Cool picture John, kinda neat to see a slip under construction. πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘
Very nice :)

Thanks a lot buddy, I'll include a full report below! :D

Thank you very much Bill, that's not a bad length for a morning stroll :) I am looking forward to watching that video, congratulations :) Cool pic of your Hartshead Barlow

Nice to see your 2018 Ebony Jer :)

Glad you’re okay Jack.
Sounds like you need a Donut Burger... they are popular at the fairs around here.

I’ve never had one John but there is a minor league baseball team called the Grizzlies that play about an hour from me. They serve them at the ball park and they seem quite popular there also.

I think you might be right John! :D Or perhaps I should get one of these?! 🀣

Thanks for the helpful link and good advice Rachel, I did notice that my vocabulary was slightly affected for a while (and I don't mean lapsing into Anglo Saxon!). Bearing in mind that I make my living from it, I should look after my noggin better

I guess that's one of the tricks of the street-drumming trade :D

It took me by surprise too Barrett :) That must have been cool, it's a great shoot out  I remember seeing an early showing of Apocalypse Now in one of the large Leicester Square (London) cinemas, with surround sound, and the action sequences were certainly adrenaline inducing - even more so than when I saw Assault on Precinct 13 in a cinema in Beirut, when there was more gunfire in the theatre, than on-screen! :D
Those donuts are looking pretty good, too! 😁
They were nice with a good, strong cup of coffee :)

Thanks mate, he does get some good stuff :) Not too bad, thank you :)

They can break down surprisingly quickly Barrett, particularly since the boots may have been in storage a couple of years before you buy them. Far worse though is hydrolosis, where the middle part of a sole unit basically turns into something like cottage cheese, even though it looks perfectly fine in the box (perhaps slightly shiny). I had to throw out numerous pairs of otherwise brand new boots from my gear-testing days because of it. Commonly affected are types of dual-density moulded outsoles, which were first introduced in the early 1990's. Looking at your boots, it looks like they may have that sort of outsole, and if that's the case, I'd advise you to get your 'new' boots out, and walk about in them a bit. Rotating footwear seems to decrease the problem, but leaving boots in long-term storage can ruin them unfortunately :( If you want to check the boots are OK, before wearing them, press your thumb into the slightly softer rubber at the sides of the sole. Unfortunately, it's not so easy to check the state of the adhesive used to attach the sole. Nice-looking boots
Red braces would make him look rather snappy! πŸ‘
Maybe I'll get him some for Christmas! :D ;)
I see some axes I wouldnt mind having. πŸ™‚
He often has some really nice, old axes :) I think this one cost me a fiver! :)

Thanks JJ, I didn't actually buy the Crescent wrench, nice as I thought it was :) It was well-priced at Β£25, but I need to stop buying tools I don't need, and stop getting rid of some of the ones I have! :D I'd be interested to hear from anyone who owns a wrench like that though
That sounds good too! πŸ‘
The first time I had it was in a restaurant Todd, and I was astonished that such a simple dish could taste so good :)
Glad you’re okay Jack.
Thank you my friend :)

Good morning Guardians, Friday again already! And of course we're into September now! Where does the time go?! I hope you've all had a good week, and that you're looking forward to a great weekend :) I'm carrying my much-neglected OTHER Hartshead Barlow today ;) Have a good one Guardians

Cool picture John, kinda neat to see a slip under construction.
Thanks, Todd. :)
Normally it would take me about and hour and a half to finish it, but it's been 110 degrees in the shop... 10 minutes at a time is all I can handle.
They serve them at the ball park
I've never been brave enough to try one.
I'm sure they are delicious, but I'm sure your hands would be sticky for days.
Thanks for the Lamb content John!
Any time, my friend. ;)
Lambsfoot knives are like cuts of steak... You have your favorites but you love them all. 😁
