Woke early this morning to these headlines. Where i am is about 1/4 of a mile from a river that broke it's banks on Thursday, nature is a marvellous self healer, went for my early morning walk this morning, first one i could get in for 3 days, and the river is still running fast, but is slowly coming down, you can see how high it got, and has dropped about 10-15 feet. But there is still water everywhere on the low lying areas. Went for a drive an hour ago, most of the closed roads are now reopened and you can see water everywhere and the damage it has caused, but other areas of the state are still waiting for water peaks, so i feel for those people. Have a good weekend everyone. 🥰

I'm glad to hear the water is going down, where you are, Leon, and that you are OK, and hope everyone else is too. My mate's sister got hit pretty bad last year, and had to bail out in a boat, with the kids, in the early hours, looked hairy stuff  Hope you have a great weekend mate
Now that IS a mob of Lambs.
🤣
Really like that my friend. Nice One.
Thanks pal :)
One of my Brother-In-Laws is Chinese. He introduced me to real Chinese food, so different to what we Westerners regard as Chinese food. He explained to me that the Chinese being such smart and proficient business people when they started opening restaurants here adapted them to suit the Western palate. I have a friend and she has just returned from living in Thailand for the last 20 years, she said virtually the same thing. She just loves Thai food, but most of the Thai restaurants here serve virtually a hybrid of Thai cuisine. She had a few of us over for dinner a few weeks ago and cooked some Thai food for us, just brilliant, probably won't eat Thai again unless she cooks for me. She has spoilt me, there is only one Thai joint here that she would go too. So a lot of what we are served, especially from Eastern cuisines, is not what you would call authentic.
Yeah, it's the same with most of the Indian food served here! :D That sounds like a great dinner :) My Son-in-Law is half Hong Kong Chinese, his dad runs a takeaway. He grew up with his English mum though, and never learned to cook! 😁
A lot i presume were snapped up by GEC " Collectors " or flippers and not by Guardians, just my opinion.
I guess so
I just saw that thread and had a read through it, some not very pleasant reading in some aspects. Very Sad. 🤫🤫🤫
Yep, be glad to see the back of some of them 😒 JohnDF JohnDF has a past forum knife with 'Flipper Bait' engraved on the blade :D I think if I were going to buy one this year, I'd have '$&%@ Bait' engraved on it!;)
Sweet collection Jack ! 😍
Thanks a lot Steve :)
:)
Yeah, I’ve seen the teenage boys here wearing shorts when it’s below zero out. 🙄🤣
Hey, that's my childhood! 🤣

Sorry to hear about your friends, Jack. 🙁 I remember you saying you had planned to go down there before 2020 2020’ed everything up.
Thanks mate, came as a real surprise :( Didn't it just?! :D

I was talking to an 18 year old girl at the bus-stop yesterday, really felt sorry for her. There's a shortage of bus-drivers here, so her bus to college was cancelled, there's an 18 month backlog to take a driving test, she had no hope of finding her own place, let alone buying a house in the future, and she told me her poor grandfather had been waiting more than 2 years for a hip replacement. Kids of that age have had it tough, and there's certainly no sunshine on the horizon here in GB :(
That’s interesting, Jack. I may have told this story before, but when I was in college I had a job as a Paratransit driver. We had these two passengers, a married couple, who were both blind. As a hobby, the husband brewed his own beer in their garage, and we had talked about it a few times. They liked to go out on Friday or Saturday nights to Dickson Street, the street near campus where all the bars were located, and bar hop for several hours. I was the only Paratransit driver who worked that shift (demand was usually very low), so I would drop them off around 6 pm and pick them back up about 10:30, and usually I would have few if any pickups in between. It was a great job. 😁

Anyways, one night I was driving them home from the bars and the guy asks me if I’d like to take some of his home-brewed beer home to try. I was skeptical, but of course I didn’t want to be rude, so I said sure. I dropped them off at their house and he went inside, opened the garage door and came out with a few 12-oz plastic Coke bottles of beer. The containers didn’t inspire any additional enthusiasm for what I was in for, but I took them home and gave them a try. The beer was actually really good! A very pleasant surprise. 🙂

And I’m just now realizing you said your friend’s friend had had the beer made, not that he had made it himself, which means my story is not as relevant as I thought it was, and explains why your beer is in a glass bottle with a nice label and not a plastic Coke bottle. 🙃🤣
LOL! 🤣🤣 Still a great story my friend, what an interesting couple! 😁 I can remember buying a home-brew kit with money I got for my 11th birthday, I'm surprised my parents didn't think it strange! :D It's a hobby which goes back a long way here, and is still quite popular. I've had some pretty rotten home-brew in the past, but some great stuff too. I brewed beer (for keg and bottle) for about 10 years, as did my dad, and I've a mate who makes his own now and again :)
Thank you, Jack!

A thick slab of Swiss cheese on the bottom, and a healthy dollop of dijon mustard, and I’d eat that. 😎😁
It's funny Jeff, if I cook a burger, I always put cheese on top, but never think of it with sausage :D

spamming?

Just saw this. :thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::mad:

I'm lost as to what you guys are talking about. Spamming? What thread are you referring to?

There are some folks making multiple posts in random threads, just to try and establish a post count of 25 here (for the forum knife) I don't know why they're bothering because I don't think anyone is checking for eligibility, but they're making a mess of the front page by resurrecting long-dead threads, which is one of the reasons this thread keeps dropping down the front page 🤨

Good morning Guardians, I hope everyone is doing well, and that you're enjoying the weekend :) Nothing exciting planned here, but I'm going out for a pint tonight, with a mate, so that should be fun. It's very rare I go out on a Saturday night these days! :D Wishing everyone a great Saturday

and hope everyone else is too
No sadly, a lot of the water is only peaking today or tonight, and some peaks not expected until a few days. Rochester, a town not all that far from where i am went under this afternoon, the whole town is underwater and cut off. They found a resident drowned today, but cannot retrieve his body, very sad. A lot of the surrounding roads are just gone, will take ages to fix them, but there are pot holes everywhere, the water has come up from under the surface. I nearly hit about 6 just around here this morning. Puts things into relevance and perspective.

That's terrible Leon! 😱 Please take care mate, it sounds like Mother Nature is in a cruel mood, as my grandfather used to say 👍

Thank you very much my friend, maybe I should get one of those T-shirts printed up! 😁👍

Thank you Bill, getting there buddy :) I hope your medical appointments all go well, and that you have a good day :) Nice pic

Aw, thanks Todd, that's very kind of you my friend :) Thank you kindly :)

Hope you're all having a good day Guardians, it's pretty nice here today, bright and sunny :) I walked down to Charlie's Cafe for coffee and a croissant. We usually swap between Arabic, French, English, and a little Italian in there, but today I told them I need to brush up on my Spanish, which is very rusty :D For once, I had the advantage though :D ;)

I'm still limping, but I noticed that I walked a lot further today, before I started, so I decided to head into town, and pick up a few travel items I need for my Xmas vacation. The only trouble is, that kind of stuff, (plug adapters, etc), is pretty much seasonal, and has since been replaced by Halloween masks and Christmas cards, in most stores, so I'm going to have to do a bit of hunting, (or just buy the things I need online). After a good walk around town, I decided to have a Thai lunch, before heading back home again ;)

Thanks Jack - medical appointments all went well. Busy day yesterday and now I need to catch up on the forum. Another beautiful day here in NC. I off to take a walk and work out in the gym this morning. After that is all done then it's will be shopping with the wife. I'll be carrying my HHB today.

That's good to hear Bill :) Sounds like you have a busy day ahead :) Nice shot of your Hartshead Barlow

I had a stroll down to Charlie's Cafe, which is a good mile and a half there and back, and I managed to get back up the hill without limping, so I was quite pleased with that :) Coffee was good, as always :)

Good Morning Guardians
I've been purposely limiting my forum interactions this past week or so.
And I'll probably continue for another week or so, just to gain proper perspective again.
Please don't think I'm ignoring any of you, I just believe it's better to take breaks than feel bitter about things.

I'll just point out Pete, that is not a mere 16oz 'pint' of bitter, but a full Yorkshire 20oz pint! :D ;)
Great picture, I love the braces. 🤠
Thanks mate, I sometimes wear them when I am out hiking, because of all the stuff I have in my pockets, and on my belt! :D ;)

Jack, wasn’t it Mick Jagger who famously said,
“Thank you, kindly. I think I busted a button on my trousers. I hope they don't fall down. It's that jumpin' around, man...”
Your braces are very cool!

That wasn't a quote I was familiar with my friend, but I reckon that's definitely someone who would benefit from a good pair of braces! :D
