Yes Jacques, there was a time when almost every worker in Sheffield was involved in the steel and cutlery trades in some way or another. Many firms, besides W. Forrest & Co, made presses and other machinery relating to cutlery. My father did his apprenticeship at one of them, Walters & DobsonJust curious for no particular reasonJack Black . The cast iron(?) press says W. Forrest & Co - Sheffield. Was the press also made in Sheffield?
It is hard to fathom how immensely big some industries - in this case, that of iron and steel works obliviously - got in some rather small and very local areas back then.
I'll look out for that one LeonI know we have several sauce aficionados here at the Guardians and i am always on the lookout for a new condiment for the larder. Especially since i cannot afford " Henderson's ", the holy grail according to some good judges. But i did spy this out of the corner of my eye hidden in a corner nearly out of sight. And it is good, hot, but not blow your head off hot. This has been added to my new go to Hot Sauce favourite, " Franks Red Hot Buffalo Wings Sauce "..

My friend Tool Man is not often seen without a Spam sandwich in his hand!I love SPAM; my ( and my grandsons) favorite is Bacon Spam. Tastes geat and actually lower in Sodion than the low sodium or lite Spam.

Good morning Guardians, I hope everyone had a fantastic weekendIt looks like a pretty nice day here today, but I'll have to see if I can walk down to Charlie's. I've not been in since last week. Hope your week gets off to a good start, and that the rest of it goes well. I thought I'd start mine with a Charlie Lamb

Here's the press they use to stamp the blades Ed, it's older than the two of us combined, but a pretty stable platform

I noticed the stool in front of the press. It may be older than the machine!Enjoy your Spam Ed!![]()

Oh no! Hope your computer glitch isn't serious Jack. I had my desk top computer, an iMac, in the shop for a new solid state hard drive. Fortunately the transplant surgery was successful and I recovered most everything into the new hard drive. Still working through a few minor issues. Best of luck getting your "new" computer sorted.Darn it! Just posting in the EDC thread when my 'new' computer shut down, and won't restart!I'm going to have to take it back - again!

So sorry your week has to start with digital problems Jack.
Thanks Steve, you might be right buddyNot a good way to start your week. I hope you can get it sorted out or maybe time for a refund.
Thanks John, I posted that pic for youWith a great Lambsfoot comes a great background.![]()
That's a traditional three-legged cutlers stool, and it probably is older than the press. When John Maleham was still the owner of Wright's, they found a dozen or so of those stools up in the attic, and he offered to sell them to me for a very low price. I didn't want them, but told him they were worth a great deal more than he had asked, and suggested he give first refusal to Sheffield Museums. Not long after, he sold the firm, and the new owner sold them to some 'salvage hunters' for a pittance. That's really quite typical of the Sheffield cutlers, the old firms, (in their decline), sold off every bit of history they had, for pennies, and doffed their caps to the visiting pirates as they did so - all their old pattern books, catalogues, documents, priceless exhibition knives, the lot!I noticed the stool in front of the press. Thanks Harvey. Many thanks Jack.
This post is a treat, Jack.
Glad I asked you to show and tell, Paul. A beautiful classic.
Thanks Pete.Gorgeous pair there Paul.
Sorry to hear about your computer Jack. Computers are the worst when they go haywire. Awesome when they are working but when they break I have a better chance of conducting a successful heart transplant than fixing a broken PC. I hope your back starts to feel better. I just got diagnosed with a moderate case of sciatica myself. All those years of humping a ruck sack did not do the body good. We live with our choices and make the best of it I suppose. On a brighter note I wish I had that bread in front of me right now. I would take the lamb tooThanks Bob, it was rather unexpected

I ended up spending all day in the market, while the computer clown messed around with my PC. I doubt he spent more than 20 minutes working on it, out of 3 hours, because there are constant visitors to his stall, and people on the phone. Most of the visitors are people with very obvious mental health problems, computer nerds, or a mixture of both, and customers like myself, returning items that don't work properly. The phone calls are mainly complaints. I've come to the conclusion that the bloke is an idiot, who doesn't entirely know what he's doing. I only went to him as another stall holder recommended him, but unfortunately this feller no longer has a stall, so he wasn't there to shame. The clown didn't seem to know what had caused the issue, but said it might be overheating, which since there was only one small fan previously, and very little space, it might well be. He replaced the graphics card, and added a fan, but I really don't have faith that he knows what he's doing
I doubt lugging the PC down to the market has done my back any good, and I'd have rather gone for a walk, or visited Charlie's, on such a nice day, rather than kicking my heels down at the market
Cheese on toast for lunch, with Henderson's of course![]()

Honestly I just went and got a macbook after having computer issues. Been happy with it ever since. Thanks Paul, they can be frustratingMy last PC was reconditioned, bought it off the net, cost around $100, no issues, and I got a good 12 years out of it. It was a better choice than the one I got this time, which might not last 12 months!
Very sorry to hear about the sciatica buddy, I really hope you don't suffer with it too badly, it's a curse

I'm glad the injections have helped. They definitely sound more proactive than hereThere looking at different forms of treatment but pretty much told me it will be a condition that I will deal with for life. Just got my first round of injections. It feels better now.
