Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Has anyone ever seen a Eureka framed Lambsfoot? I think it would work very well . . . I want one!
I've never seen one Jeff, I reckon you'd need to go custom
Newest addition to the lamb family

Very nice  Please tell us more :)
Good afternoon or evening Guardians. Celebrating Sat. Patrick's Day yesterday and today. My spouse is 100% Irish and her family is originally from Donegal (some of her cousins are still there) and a little hamlet of Termon-Ballybuninabber not far from Muckish Mountain and Glenvegh Castle. The remains of the old farm house and barn are still there. My wife and I visited the place a few years ago. Wonderful family.

I am carrying my HHB today.

The Glenveagh Inn - image 1 This is a photo of the Glenveagh Inn where we met the Kelly family for a few brewskees!
Great pics Bill, I have an old pal from Longford called Kelly, but as you know, it is not an uncommon Irish name! :D His first name is Patrick! 🤣
I’ve had several rum and Cokes lately Jack!
😎👍

Hello Guardians. Been out for awhile with of all things, a bad tooth! Little bit embarrassing, but the antibiotics are finally kicking in and I’m getting a root canal on Monday. Weird to be looking forward to a root canal! 🤣
View attachment 2120084
I don't blame you mate! I hope you get it fixed OK buddy :) That Orasol looks like good gear, might have to get some for my first aid kit. I broke about a third of a tooth off about 10 days ago, but strangely, the tooth doesn't really hurt. I have a dental appointment on the 25th, but the dentists here seem useless these days. I have a mouth like a bombed graveyard! ☹️
Glad your gettling a little relief Todd. Pop that sucker out with the lamb. No more root canal needed and problem solved 🤣 😂.
It is so hard to get a dentist here right now, there are lots of people resorting to pulling their own teeth!

I'm sorry to hear about your toothache. Nothing to be embarrassed about, though. Even Shakespeare thought a toothache would knock someone out of action:
"I pray thee peace, I will be flesh and blood;
For there was never yet philosopher
That could endure the toothache patiently,
However they have writ the style of gods,
And made a push at chance and sufferance."
Very learned Tyson :)
Was a good idea in theory. 🤣 🤣 🤣 But seriously it is really good for fixed blade and kitchen knives, okay for traditionals, but has it's limitations. But glad i did it, just learnt so much, and i don't care what anyone says, you cannot beat hands on learning yourself. Theory and books can be great aids, but hands on learning and learning by your mistakes is so much better. All the generations that went before us had to learn from trial and error, and you learn so much more from your mistakes. As far as knife sharpeners go though, i bought a clone of the Wicked Edge online. Value for money it is the best sharpener i have ever used. I can only imagine how good the original Wicked Edge is, but off the charts prohibitively expensive over here. If i had time on my side i would get one, but this old stager ain't investing that sort of Johnny Cash into a knife sharpener at this stage of his time on this mortal world. Have a good weekend mate. 🤝
It was a great project to watch Leon  You are quite right my friend :) It's worth thinking about the value for money you're going to get at our time of life! :D I had a bit of a lightbulb moment a few years, back when talking to another forum member I used to meet up with. I was talking about sharpening, and he said, "How much sharper do you want it to be Jack?" I was getting a bit obsessive about my edges, and it really made me think. I know many folks get a lot of satisfaction from being able to produce a beautiful hair-whittling edge, but in practice maybe shaving sharp is all they really need to be
You should look at getting an Idahone V ceramic sharpener. They are set at 15 degrees and 22 degrees, would be a great help just honing your knives to keep them sharp.
Looks good Leon, I sometimes use the edge of one of my Spyderco rods for a quick touch-up. Reaper AL Reaper AL kindly sent me a handy little sharpener a couple of years ago (mine might be an earlier model than the one in the pic), and I keep it on the coffee table, in a pouch, along with a small pocket strop, and some oil and stuff. It's dead handy for a quick touch-up, if I don't want to get my sharpening box out of the cupboard. I don't use the diamond plates, but I do use the small ceramic rod

Good evening!

Fun day for us. We decided to spend the afternoon walking the upper purgatory greenbelt in San Marcos. It’s really a nice place to unwind. The Golden Cheecked Warbler is an endangered species so some trails were off limits. It is beautiful country. View attachment 2120293View attachment 2120294View attachment 2120295

After returning home I decided to have a screwdriver out back and admire this ebony beauty. And Patches, ever faithfully by my side. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!View attachment 2120297View attachment 2120298View attachment 2120299

Jack Black Jack Black Stay out of that other joint, was just reading it. We're better than that. 🥰 🥰 🥰
Good advice mate, your dad knew best! 😒;)
Saw a good movie last night based on a true story. The Scarlett and the black. Gregory Peck plays the lead role as an Irish Monsignor in the Vatican hiding and saving locals and escaped prisoners of War from the Nazi regime during WW2. Good movie on a rainy day.
Classic! :)

Thanks a lot Dwight, your striking pic has inspired me to carry my Charlie Lamb today :)

Good morning Guardians, I hope everyone is well, and looking forward to a nice weekend :) Hope you're not suffering Todd  I don't have any plans for today, but do need to go and get some bread at some point, so I might call in at Charlie's. I should get back into the discipline of going for a Saturday hike really  Have a good day Guardians

I am a sharpening junkie, and i admit it. But for the average person you can now get some really good sharpening kit for not much money. Even a couple of grit sizes will suffice most needs. And for the age old question how sharp should a knife be, one answer, as sharp as it needs to be for your requirements, it is that simple. As humans we have an uncanny ability to complicate things. Just watching a movie i have seen 6 times i reckon, Raging Bull.

Great advice, as always, my friend :) I reckon I've seen it more than twice that Leon! :D Probably due another viewing soon! :D ;)

I read Jake La Motta's autobiography, and I reckon the movie did him a favour!

Thanks Todd, I'm not holding out a lot of hope, but at least it's not painful. The last time I went was to get 2 crowns cemented back in place. I had stuck one back in myself, and the dentist told me she'd leave it, as I had done a good job. The dental cement was only temporary though, and it came out again 2 weeks after! She couldn't figure out which way the other crown went, so said she'd replace it. However, the scanner wasn't working, so they were supposed to call me back, but didn't! 😖 I think I might have to shell out for some dental tourism, and go to Germany or Poland to get my teeth fixed! 🙄

It's terrible isn't it Todd, poor little love ☹️

Good morning Guardians. Rainy morning today is I guess I'll be indoors except for an errand that I need to run. We need the rain to knock down the tree pollen as it has bee the absolute worst this spring. Made some "Irish Potatoes" to help celebrate St Paddy's Day for our friends - a sort of candy/desert made with :
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup butter, softened
  • 4 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups flaked coconut
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

His full name is Padraic Pearse Kelly! :D Kathleen Mary Kelly is VERY Irish too! :D Lovely name :) I know a Londoner called Frank, and when I hadn't known him long, he said something that made me ask if his family was Irish. In a broad London accent, he said, "Well, me name's Francis Joseph Patrick Quinn." 🤣 Thanks Bill :)

Sorry to hear about the pollen Bill, that's a thoughtful gift :) THank you, both for the recipe, and for the great pics
Very sad to hear the state of dental care in England. :(
The state of medical care is not much better I'm afraid Steve, the system is completely, and it's costing a lot of lives :(
I'd forgotten about your castanets Jer! :D How are you getting on with the Space Lamb? :)

Good morning guardians, I hope no one had too many libations yesterday. The wife decided that we were going to have Italian food for dinner instead of corned beef and cabbage 🤔. It was good though so I can’t complain. Hope everyone has a great Saturday. View attachment 2120739View attachment 2120738
It LOOKS good Daniel :) As does your Lambsfoot

After leaving Charlie's, I went into town. I very rarely go into Leeds city centre at weekends, and I'd forgotten how busy it gets. There was a 'Goth Fair' in Leeds market, with some very bizarre-looking stalls, and bizarre-looking old Goths! :D Ray, Tool Man's Teddy Boy mate, who has the stall next door, was DJing at the event, which must have been Teddy Boy Hell! 🤣

I had 5 minutes with Ray, and also had a chat with a couple of traders I know in the outdoor market. There's a nice guy who sells army surplus gear. He's 6ft 4" and I'm 6ft 3", and he was just telling me about a policeman he knows who is 6ft 6", when some young lunatic appeared, and interrupting his tale, said, "You don't need to be more than 6ft when you're a trained semi-professional cage fighter." The guy laughed, and said, "You're nothing like 6ft!" He then started asking about body armour, which he supposedly needed for a movie he was starring in, and then turned his attention to some very inexpensive combat pants, asking, "Would these be any good for kicking someone in the head? Because I need to be able to kick 7 1/2 feet in the air!" I wandered off, but when I passed through again later, I spoke to the army surplus guy again, and we were laughing about it. I guessed that he didn't even buy the trousers, and the bloke told me that he'd said they were a bit expensive, and that he'd have to wait until he received his unemployment cheque! I guess cage-fighting and movie stardom doesn't pay as much as people think! 🤣 Leeds Market, I'll miss it when it's gone! 🤪

I decided to get something to eat, but the food hall was absolutely packed, so I returned to the Tunisian stall I went to on Thursday, which is a little tucked away. Got a great sandwich, though it was a little messy to eat! :D

GnG33pW.jpg

My mate rang me to say he was his way into town, with his youngest lad, and so we arranged to meet up for a coffee. I spent half an hour with them, before walking back through the crowds of shoppers. City councils everywhere in England are always changing and resurfacing pavements, and it's something of a national sport. Quite a dangerous sport in Leeds today though, as for some reason, the council had put down some sort of aggregate, which became as slippery as custard when it got wet. I'm assuming the job is only half done, but if so, it should have been cordoned off. Since it wasn't, the material had been walked onto all the surrounding streets, and people were going down like nine-pins with several quite seriously injured 😠

Not too bad thanks Steve :) I'm very sorry to hear about your aunt mate. Scotland has a separate system, funded by the Scottish Parliament, so hopefully, it's more like the NHS used to be like here in England

Wow...great picture Jack. Your family certainly has a rich history and many tales to enrich your memory of them.

Those rolls must be good having to guard them with the beauty of a Waynorth lamb.

Thanks Bob, Sheffield is a small place, there were dozens of other cutlery firms located within a few hundred yards of the Washington Works, including the Taylor's Eye Witness factory, which like the Washington Works, I used to pass every day :) Have you seen my picture thread about Sheffield factories (hope it's still in one piece)?
