I had arranged to meet my ex's daughter, Eve, today. We meet up for lunch every couple of weeks, and had arranged to visit Kirkstall Abbey, a few miles out of the centre of Leeds. We had coffee and cake, and then drove to the abbey, but as luck would have it, when we got there, we found that it was temporarily closed, because they were carrying out some maintenance workI took a few photos from over the fence

We walked around the abbey, but were precluded from having a short walk along the banks of the River Aire, because there was other work taking place along the footpath.

As we walked back to the car, we discussed some lunch options. Monday is Eve's regular day off, but unfortunately, a lot of eateries are closed here on Mondays, which always limits our options. When I was meeting up with Nobber Al, the other night, I passed a small street-corner spot, which looked inviting. 'Dave's Pie's & Ales' is essentially a pub, and it turned out that I knew Dave, who was behind the bar when we went in. The name suggested they had a range of pies, but they just had the one pork pie, with mushy peas as an unwelcome accompaniment. The pie was pretty small, but tasty.

We drank ginger beer with our pies, and chatted to Dave, and after he left to rustle up more pies, the bar-maid. Definitely a place I'll head back to for a pintWe were going to go for coffee, but spotted that Kirkstall Brewery's 'Tap' had half-price pizza. Kirkstall Brewery don't have many pubs, but every one they have is first rate, and the the brewery tap is no exception (though, on this occasion, the pizza was poor). I spotted a vintage Taylor's Eye Witness display case up on one of the walls, though it was filled with a motley array of what can only be loosely described as 'cutlery'. Maybe I can wheedle it out of their hands one day

Congratulations David, I'm glad that at least one of our regulars was able to score one of thoseAfternoon Guardians! New Lamb. This is a very nice Lambsfoot. Probably see lots of pocket time and use. It will be interesting to see how it ages with use.
