I had this song playing in my head while enjoying those pics, Jack. šŸ™‚ Happy Yorkshire Day, my friend. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Thanks Jack.

Happy Yorkshire day to you and all the Guardians. Beautiful scenery of your home. 13th century museum.

Cheers all.View attachment 2271446

Looks like a feast, Dwight!

Before heading to the pie shop, I decided to have a pint in one of Leeds very few unspoiled old pubs. The Templar :)

I usually sit in the front, but the boothes were all taken, so I sat in the back, with a small group of blokes playing dominoes. You don't see much of that these days.

I took a few photos on my way to Pimeminister...

This cafe is tucked away, up a tiny old lane called Fish Street. It was called the Empire back in Tool Man's Day, when Leeds had a preponderance of ordinary cafes. Most recently it was called La Strega, but that closed down a year or so ago. It seems the old Empire Cafe sign was still there, behind the modern plastic one. I think it looks pretty cool. I told man, but he couldn't find his way to Fish Street, even though it's a stone-s throw from his market stall!

By contrast, the pie shop is decorated like a 1970's student refectory.

Having had chips for lunch, I decided to order mash with my pie, along with what I expected to be a pint. Not sure what measure that is, but since it was pretty undrinkable, it didn't really matter.

I hadn't been here for a while, but recent reviews encouraged me to think I was in for a treat. There's a lot of overpriced mediocre eateries in Leeds these days, and sadly Pieminister is one of them. The pies themselves, while expensive, aren't bad, but this one tasted like it had made a visit to the microwave, with cardboard-like pastry. I can see why I was the only diner. I had to interrupt the gaggle of disinterested staff to ask for some Henderson's, which for some reason they don't stock! I had meant to put a small bottle in my jacket pocket, just in case ;) The pie went down quickly, despite the pastry, and I did think of having dessert, but I couldn't be bothered to find the waitress again, and I think they only do sundaes. I wondered off to the market, hoping for something to round off my meal, but the bakery had already closed

Happy Yorkshire Day Everyone!

Very glad to participate today. I was so excited to try a chip butty, that I took my lunch break about an hour earlier than usual.

Living in Idaho, you’d think a potato-based sandwich would be an easy meal to find, but in the end, I had to make due by ā€œordering off menuā€. I must say, they gave me some very strange looks at Five Guys restaurant when I asked them to butter a bun and put some fries in it! They were happy to make this for me, just mostly confused by it. They also keep malt vinegar condiment packets so I added a decent amount in there for good measure.

Boy, was this sandwich delicious and I may need to order another one soon. Thank you, Jack, for the introduction to this fine delicacy. Cheers!

P.S. - As I’m a new member of this group, I’m including a quote of my first post here a few months back, as requested.

I’ve been wanting a lambfoot blade for a while now. It goes without saying that I’ve been unsuccessful in scoring either of the two big American made ones. I’ll keep hunting for those once my knife fund recovers, but recognize it’s unlikely. The other ones that are more available on the market just aren’t exactly what I’m looking for either. So that left basically no other options that I know of, aside from having one made.

That’s where I decided to contact a knife maker. I got in touch with a newer maker and chatted with them about the design I was looking for, materials, etc… Settled on a ~3 inch 1095 blade in a 4 inch swayback handle. Long story short, here’s the end product! I’m very happy with the knife in general.

I’m not sure if I’m able to give information about the maker or not on here, but I’d be happy to share if that kind of information is allowed.

Fantastic photo Steve :)

Wow Bob! You really hit the jackpot buddy, Dandelion & Burdock, Sarson's vinegar, and those chips look delicious! šŸ˜‹ Looks like a great place my friend  So what did you reckon? :)
All was excellent Jack. Will have the fish and chips when I get home. The couple were very gracious

Glad you are enjoying Yorkshire Day.šŸ»
I thought it may be rude to ask where they were from...maybe next time.

Fantastic effort! :) That's a great photo too  I'm glad you enjoyed your first chip butty :) I wonder if the staff will try one later! :D ;) I was once in Barcelona for a couple of months, and one day, I was at a small neighbourhood cafe, near where I was staying, and I decided to ask for a chip butty! :D Of course, I had to explain what I wanted, and it varied a little from the Yorkshire variety, but by the end of week, all the regulars in the cafe were asking for them! It got to the point where, if I wanted something different, I had to go to another cafe! 🤣

Glad you enjoyed it Bob, it sure looked pretty good :) Enjoy your fish and chips! :)

Nah then, ow do Guardians ! I was chuffed with my Chip Butty as it was right good scran. :)

Assemblage of the butty, I had some proper white bread this year which made all the difference. I also ended up adding more butter this year. The results were excellent, much taster than last years which was on wheat bread.

I needed some protein so I fried a couple of eggs to go with it

Final spread with some of my neighbors cherry tomatoes and some Yorkshire gold to go along with it. I tried some Hendersons on my eggs, I really like this stuff šŸ‘
Didn't need the Ketchup after all šŸ˜‰

Best of luck to everyone on the GAW and a big thanks to Jack !

Thank you. They were definitely curious what I was up to, and it was before lunch rush so I told them the little I’ve learned about the sandwich in the past few days. I feel like one or two of them may give it a go šŸ˜‰

I just moved to Idaho this summer. Good to know Five Guys will make a Chip Butty for you here.
