Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Keeping the Aussie theme going.:thumbsup::thumbsup:;).

It's an invasion!

Where's the Fosters?🍺

No one drinks Fosters anymore. o_Oo_Oo_O

🤣 🤣

I don't see how they can even call themselves a hotel with no service - No Reception, no food, no room service, no bedding change, limited DIY towel change, no security. I may even make a complaint to the booking company. Overall, I found the prices in Whitby expensive for the standards on offer, I didn't have a good meal, or a good cup of coffee, while I was there, and the 4 day trip cost me considerably more than an all-inclusive week in Bulgaria, the other month, with a large room with sea-view

Two poles are excellent for off road my friend :) It's nice that cork still has a place in the world, it's an interesting material  Thank you Mitch, you too buddy
I wonder if the landlords were hoping their outraged guests would burn the place down for the insurance.

Two poles do take some weight off the knees and give the arms a little work, too. I can use them if I sacrifice the mechanical advantage of the wrist loop, but I have to be able to let go of them quickly.
As Zorab told Rostam, "Never have both hands full in a fight".
But then Rostam killed him anyway.

I'm probably not alone in noticing that double poles make domestic dogs crazy, and I'll bet Taylor Mitchell was using them when she was killed and eaten by coyotes.

They are a modern plague  I don't think it is such a regular crime here yet, as in the US, but the thieves are catching up :(
Years ago--maybe 20 or more--delivery men (USPS, UPS, FedEx) would never just leave something on the porch. They would leave a notice on the door if no one was home to reschedule a delivery, or we could pick it up ourselves. I miss those days.

Maybe I'll buy some Foster's to cheer myself up.

Just about, it's after 8.15pm. Kristy came home this afternoon & said we had to go shopping for the shop, has her own cafe. So we had to go the shops & costco run😄
I bet it's a great cafe Mitch 😋 :)

Possibly Jer :D Though with nobody at Reception, or any management on the premises at all, it could have been a nasty fire! I still can't believe their cheek! Cool pic

Horrible case, I didn't realise coyotes were that dangerous (not that I have any experience whatsoever of them)

Yes, that's always been the case here too Vince, but things seem to have started to change during the various lockdowns here, and because courier firms have taken their lead from Amazon drivers. The depot is less than a mile from my house, so I have never minded picking things up

I hope everyone is having a good day :) Apart from my ranting about my stolen package, it was rather quiet in the market today. Tool Man was on his absolute best behaviour, and even insisted on both paying for some samosas, and going to buy cake. Harry Hot-Balls was the only visitor to the stall, and that was only briefly. The fruitcakes were represented by this would-be Droog, though I reckon he could make Pikelet of the Month 🤪

Musical Andy brought me a local press clipping about a recent auction of valuable Sheffield knives, (unfortunately, I can't find the piece online), and I read it while I looked after his stall for ten minutes, while he went to the car-park.

Strangely, I forgot to buy coffee, and must say that I have felt very weary. I did have a nice falafel sandwich for lunch though ;)

Tool Man was very pleased to take £600 on the Friday, before the rain came, at Whitby, which I told him was a bit less than the weekend had cost me  ;)

Wally walking duck, yep that's what the kids named it many years ago.
Well of course. What else would you name it?
Good morning Guardians, I hope everyone is doing OK, nice to see this thread thriving with fine folks :) After weeks of rain, and unseasonably cool temperatures, the return of some warmer weather has come as something of a surprise, and is slightly disorientating. I was wearing clothing for a mild British winter a couple of days ago, now I'm wearing a light shirt. Not that we have a heatwave, the temperatures are only in the 70's, but that's 10 degrees more than we've had in a while. No doubt Tool Man has been finding out his grubbiest vest for the Thursday market! :D I have absolutely loads to do at the moment, so I shall only be going for a couple of hours. Have a good day everyone, and I'll catch up with you all later
I'm glad you're getting some nicer weather, Jack. You'd be amazed how cool 80 degrees feels on my morning walks, compared to 106 under blazing afternoon sun!

I would absolutely file a complaint.

That's another reason I've used a P.O.box for packages for years. I live too close to a bus stop, with pedestrians walking in view of my porch. Now I read about professional porch pirates in cars just following the delivery trucks through neighborhoods.

Here's pile side Lambsfoot Content:

Thanks Rachel, not sure how long it'll last, but it's nice that it isn't raining! It's been cold so long, that yesterday, when it was warm again, I kept thinking I had a temperature, and was coming down with something! 😁
I would absolutely file a complaint.
I think you're right, I booked it through booking.com, so I might have a chance

You might find some of the YT payback videos cathartic Rachel!

Nice to see that one :)

Imagine your screen has gone all shimmery Guardians, with ethereal music obviously presaging a feat of time travel, as we go back nearly a week, to last Friday, in Whitby! ;)

Friday was supposed to be a fine day, but I woke to the sound of rain hitting the window of my rotten hotel room. I showered, and headed out for breakfast at a local cafe. A tidy stack of pancakes came with fruit and maple syrup, and was surprisingly filling.

Nt4J8xe.jpg

I had noticed a homeless guy, sleeping in what I had thought was a shop doorway, the previous night, and had some sandwiches for him. While paying my bill, I asked the cafe owner if she knew which doorway it was, and she told me the building was actually a church. She kindly made me a cup of tea to take to him too. Having delivered breakfast, I walked down the hill, in the rain.

There are numerous boat trips out from Whitby, everything from a short trip around the bay, to a full day's sea-fishing. I usually go out at least once, but weather cancelled the boat trips, this incoming 'pirate ship' must have been one of the last, if indeed it was taking passengers, and not simply moving to a more sheltered spot further up the River Esk.

I crossed over the bridge to Old Town, hopping between the small shops. I got chatting to a young Lithuanian girl, who had settled in Whitby, and to two fellers, who were selling Sheffield-made knives, including a couple of Lambsfoot models. Sadly, my favourite outdoor shop, largely unchanged for decades, is no longer there :(

There are scores of these 'yards' in Whitby :D My favourite is probably 'Loggerheads Yard', Loggerheads being where my grandmother always told people her and and my grandfather were going on holiday :D

I walked along as far as the 199 steps, which go up to St Mary's Church, and which are a famous Whitby landmark. I can remember when I used to be able to skip up and down them, but that's a long time ago! :D

I didn't fancy those steps today, particularly with the quagmire I knew would be waiting in the fields above, where Tool Man was. I gave him a ring, and he told me it was lovely up there! I didn't believe a word of it, but said I might get the bus up later, if the rain stopped, which it soon began to do.

I passed The Black Horse, my favourite pub, but it was before 'opening time'.

What do you reckon Barrett?! :D

Grape Lane was where Captain Cook stayed in Whitby. It must have been a very bawdy place to stay, since Grape Lane was the centre of the 'Red Light' district, and the Grape Lanes found all over the country weren't originally called that, but something starting with 'Grope...'

The fake shop is still here! o_O🤣

I headed back up the hill to my hotel on the cliff opposite the Abbey and St Mary's...

xOn3yqq.jpg

If only I had had one of the latest British super cars to take me up the hill ;)

5hGcQl1.jpg

After changing into my boots, and grabbing my camera equipment, I set off back down the hill again. I had originally been intending to get a taxi to the site, but Tool Man told me that there was a huge queue of vehicles, which were having to be towed onto the site, and further congestion caused by heavier vehicles being turned away. Because of this, taxis were dropping their passengers down the hill, some distance from the site, whereas the bus, being a scheduled public transport service went right to the gate. Unfortunately, he had been vague about where the bus-stop was, saying, "It just stops outside station with all others."

ry8Jr1A.jpg

I couldn't find any sign of a bus, so I went to the tourist info office, another half mile away, where they told me there was no bus. I rang Tool Man, who in typically craven fashion, denied that he'd ever told me there was a bus! He advised me to get a taxi. "I could have got a taxi from my %@£%$+# hotel!" I replied. Obviously, Tool Man, having never walked more than 20 yards since his childhood, has no more concept of distance, than he has of direction! 😤 Going back to when Tool Man had first been trying to persuade me to come to Whitby, and offering to bring my bags, provide accommodation, etc, I had asked if I should buy a ticket to the steam event. He wouldn't hear any of it, "Oh no, we'll get you in!" Later, after I booked my accommodation, I saw that 'Early Bird' tickets for the event were on sale, for a reasonable price, and again asked if I should buy one. I received the same response several more times, but gradually, like all his other promises, this also fell by the wayside, but not until the weekend tickets had sold out. During our brief encounter on Friday, I had told him that I would have to pay £15 every time I went in through the gate, to which, rather than apologising, he told me, "Well, some places are charging £25"! 🤯 Not only was I angry with Tool Man, but I quickly calculated that it was going to cost me at least £50, before I even bought any food or beer. This seemed a lot to trudge round a muddy field, most of the 'attractions' now having been cancelled, and probably get ejected for giving Tool Man a well-deserved thumping! So I thought I'd go to the pub instead, and what better pub than The Black Horse?!

I have had so many great times in this pub, and it never fails to disappoint. The beers are always excellent, the bar staff friendly, the clientele a pleasure to drink with, and it was warm, and dry, and I was out of ear-shot of Tool Man's BS! :D

After a few delightful pints, I decided to have a walk along the front, get a Cornish Pasty for my tea, and continue my pub crawl :)

Sad that your experiences had a hue of toolman agitation attached. 😏Your lamb looks like a great substitute for a worry stone Jack.👍🏻
