Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Good morning all!

I did a fair bit of striding, doing my errands, and getting some shopping ;) First port of call was the Yorkshire Shop in the Corn exchange :D

Love this old sign, which has been recently re-discovered :)

After going to the bank, and visiting the market, I walked up Briggate, one of Leeds oldest streets, and Shopping Central these days...

This is Thornton's Arcade, one of Leeds Victorian shopping precincts. That's definitely the campest Friar Tuck I've ever seen! :D

Thought I'd call in for Thai before going back home ;) šŸ˜‹

Hope everyone else is having a good day :)

That's making me hungry !

Your lamb to on a whole new look in that photo Jack.šŸ‘šŸ» Glad you got to stretch your legs.
I'm off to get my shingles and pneumonia shots.

Glad your shots went well !

Nice pics of your '19 šŸ‘

I don't think I have ever had a decent bacon sandwich from any of those places mate šŸ˜–šŸ˜

Kinda like the coffee from most of them. 😁

Just thinking about Heathrow, the last time I was there was 1989 I think, and it's even longer since I flew from there šŸ‘

Oh wow, it’s been a while! I won’t mention how old I was in 1989. šŸ˜‰

Have a nice day šŸ˜‰

Great pic! Nice profile to that Lambsfoot blade, too.

Finding a knife in the pocket of a garment in a used clothing store in the USA? I can see how that could happen. But a Lambsfoot?! And you finding it!
I dropped off clothes and saw a hunting jacket just turned in. While looking at it, I felt the lump. Bought the knife but not the old jacket.😁
Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn occasionally!

That’s incredible, Bob! 😲 I’m with Jack, the odds of that happening — a regular contributor to this thread finding a Lambsfoot in the pocket of a jacket in a used clothing shop in the US — must be astronomical!

And on top of all that, it looks to be in great shape with tons of life left in it! Amazing!

Love this old sign, which has been recently re-discovered :)

Very cool, Jack. In this case, would ā€œdinnersā€ refer to midday meals and ā€œteasā€ be evening meals?

I think I remember you posting about this before, wasn’t it discovered on part of the outside of the Leeds market that they had been planning to renovate? Hopefully they don’t decide to un-discover it, like that scene from Detectorists where Andy finds a Roman mosaic on a build site. šŸ™„

Is that the Hogwarts Express? šŸ˜‰šŸ˜

I say that in jest, but if I’m not mistaken the photo on your calendar was taken at the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which was used as a filming location in several of the HP films.

I recently found Yorkshire Tea (which I hadn’t previously seen for sale anywhere locally) in a posh, overpriced local grocery store. Thankfully their price on the tea wasn’t too bad. I’m enjoying my first cup this morning.

The Albers is a beauty to behold.

Truly awed with the find myself. There was another Lockwood I took home, but not a lamb. I did leave my name & address incase owner came looking for them. I have a feeling someone cleaned out a family members home.

Yeah! 🤮

I was just a youngster myself mate! 😁;)

Yes, definitely Barrett (though 'teas' could well refer to a lighter meal) :D I wonder if the sign dates from WW2, when many inexpensive cafes and canteens sprang up to feed the workers, though rationing was still strictly enforced. Tool Man says he remembers the cafe, though the old sign would almost certainly have been covered over by then

Obviously this is a propaganda film, and makes no mention of the thriving black market, which made rationing less equal than it would have been otherwise.

It's close by, and I think I did post a photo the other week, but the one in the market was this one I think

I suspect that un-discoveries like the one in Detectorists go on all the time Barrett :( That's what I've been told. Even when they can't be ignored or covered-up, archaeologists often only get a very short period of time to explore them
Is that the Hogwarts Express? šŸ˜‰šŸ˜
LOL! I've never seen the film, but I have been over the Glenfinnan Viaduct (though not on a steam train) :)

LOL! :D I read this after writing my comment above! :D Well spotted :)

I hope you didn't get stung too much my friend, and that you're enjoying it :) I often think of you when I'm making a cup of tea :D

There are a good many Lambsfoot knives proudly stating on the blade that they are, in fact, real lambsfoot knives. I've googled and forum searched many times and can't seem to find a solid answer as to why it was necessary for a lambsfoot to be labeled as "real"

Were there fake Lambsfoot knives at some point? Is it just marketing? I don't see other knives with things like "real clip point". A little of my dry humor there but you get the idea....

I feel like there is a story here and have been itching to figure it out. There may not be a story and that would be a little disappointing.

Could someone explain or point me in the direction of where I could read about this?

Thanks everyone and have a good day!

I think it’s akin to how in America we like to call everything ā€œgenuineā€. I could be wrong, but it’s just a nice adjective that got applied and now it’s tradition.

Don’t take my word for the real, genuine, final say though… šŸ™ƒ
