Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Great post. :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
Thanks mate, that's not my photo I'm afraid. I've just been trying to find the video I took, but not found it yet :( I think it's because of the way Windows separates photos from video, and I took a lot of the latter on that trip. We were up there for a week in 2008, and all I've got are about 40 photos

Edit - I found a bunch of videos, which might be the ones, but can't play, or upload, them due to software changes :(

Here's me in the pub! :D

And Loch Linh, which is the loch you can see from the viaduct :)

There are a good many Lambsfoot knives proudly stating on the blade that they are, in fact, real lambsfoot knives. I've googled and forum searched many times and can't seem to find a solid answer as to why it was necessary for a lambsfoot to be labeled as "real"
Were there fake Lambsfoot knives at some point? Is it just marketing? I don't see other knives with things like "real clip point". A little of my dry humor there but you get the idea....

I feel like there is a story here and have been itching to figure it out. There may not be a story and that would be a little disappointing.

Could someone explain or point me in the direction of where I could read about this?

Thanks everyone and have a good day!
It's been discussed here in this thread more than once Rick :) It was common on Sheffield knives, 'Real Pampas Knife', on Lockwood Brothers knives, for example, or just 'Real Knife' on Abram Brooksbank :D
Haha! I see "genuine stag" sometimes and immediately think it's just plastic. That word has become a contronym!
'Genuine Stag' was stag, 'Stag' was 'Bone Stag' or 'Stag Bone', which we generally call jigged bone today

Last day of work for me until Sunday. Weather is turning fast around here. Mid 90s last week to low 60s this week. Had the opportunity to observe bombing runs from A10 Warthogs today. Really an awesome plane. Have the Hilk lamb in the pocket today. Hope everyone has a great day.

That's quite a drop in temperature Paul 🤯 Sounds like a pretty good day, but I'm glad you have some well-deserved time off :) Great pic

Thanks, Jack. Great way to end the work week for sure. I'm loving the weather now but know it's a sign of the impending chill.

I imagine 60s is swimming weather in your part of the world 😃.

Thanks for the reply Jack. It's just a common thing, then, and the good story I had hoped to find doesn't exist. Oh well.

Searching this thread is like walking into the Carnegie library with the card catalog out order. The info may be there somewhere.... but ya ain't gonna find it.

That's quite a bit of confusion cleared up again, thank you sir.

I did see it described as "Bone Stag" in the old Schrade catalogs and eventually realized it referred to the jigged bone. Interesting stuff.

Like Hoffmajo89 said, here if it says genuine (leather, bone, wood, etc)... it's usually the opposite of genuine... so that sort of throws me off! 🤪😂

Maybe... if I ever manage to build a lambsfoot congress, I'll have the blade etched "genuine lambsfoot". 😄.

I've swum in colder weather, but I was probably drunk! 🤣

Yes, very common Rick, you see it used on knives of other patterns

Have you checked out the Thread Index? Only covers the first part of the thread, but there's a lot of good discussion there. The forum search engine isn't very good, but searching within the thread can yield results. Unfortunately, 'Real' isn't a very good key-word to search on! :D

LOL! :D Yeah, Stan Shaw always referred to 'stag bone' or 'bone stag', as did other Sheffield cutlers younger than him

With Tool Man on his way to Blackpool tomorrow, and a joiner due to do some work here, I probably won't be heading down to the market until the afternoon, but I'll have some Waboom! to put a spring in my step. Nobber Al has been asking me to lend him some James Ellroy novels. I said I thought I'd given most of them away. I've certainly given quite a few away, but find that I still have 17 books of his :D I'd have made a different choice, but he wants to start with this one
