Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Question for you fellas: I've worked a bit more on the custom lambsfoot I'm commissioning Timothy La Combre to complete (about 2/3 of the way funded) and I'm curious what you think about one of the aspects I'm considering (if it is something Tim is willing to make happen, of course). Here is the updated picture:

La-Combre-custom-lambsfoot.jpg

Do you think this handle would look/feel better with a tapering butt, or a flat butt that follows the line from the bolster? Also, what do you think about the slight widening of the handle from bolster to butt? I think it would feel really secure and filling in the hand with the swell.

Let me know what ya'll think!
I think it is great that you are having a Custom Lambfoot made . IMHO though is that the Swayback Frame is the more comfortable shape . I feel that the Flat Butt End is better than a rounded end . I think you have the Cant Angle of the blade to the handle correct . You did not show any lengths but I prefer the 3 7/8 s to 4 inch closed length . I like the Butt tapering to the Bolster . Fluted Bolster is the way to go . Handle material is strictly up to you .
I have 7 Lambfoot knives and I use only 1 of them but it is IMHO a perfect Lambfoot .

Edited to add lengths : Closed = 4.125 // Over-all = 7.31
I look forward to seeing pictures of yours after you are able to get it done .

Harry

Very nice Ron :)

My goodness, it's already Friday and I haven't even posted a pic of the lambsfoot I've been carrying since Monday.:(
I try to make time to read the thread, but haven't posted since Sunday (except one brief reply to dc50 dc50 ); I hope I can rectify that sometime in the next 72 hours.

Here's this week's lambsfoot: Black Jack, my 2018 ebony Guardians Lambsfoot.

ETA: Well, that photo is acting like I tried posting from Photobucket, even though I've never done so. Maybe I've now exceeded my lifetime maximum for posting directly to BF. Looks like I'd better start uploading pics to Imgur again; I got out of the habit of doing that in February, thinking I could do direct posts to BF, even though I think I realized that was too good to be true for long.:(
ETA: Now the pic has appeared :rolleyes:, but I still think my motto should be "Imgur, here I come!"

Good to see your Black Jack GT  I share your photo-posting frustrations, I think we were sold a pup there o_O

And, yes, this week has flown by! I hope you and the other Guardians have fantastic weekends.

Hasn't it just!

Thanks, Jack! Don't think they're in print, but will check used book stores. Picked them up over 20 years ago at an establishment that caters to hunters, fishermen, ranchers, and farmers. Skeeter wrote for "Shooting Times", a gun magazine. The books are a collection of his better stories/articles/essays. I think you would enjoy them.
I picked up a book recently by one of your fellow Yorkshiremen, James Herriot: "All Creatures Great and Small", which I am looking forward to reading.

Sorry to hear about your recurring back problems. I hope that specialist can help. Have a great weekend!

I have often heard folks refer to them over the years :) Maybe I can find them in digital form online at least? I've never actually read James Herriot, but I think he is quite popular on The Porch :)

Thank you my friend, that's very kind of you :) You too

Yes, it will be 7 weeks now. The 2018 Guardians took 6 weeks I think. The other packages from a dealer in Sheffield took 9 weeks.
To add injury to an already pain, it sounds like Canada Post will walk out possibly next week, which will delay deliveries even more.
This whole thing is starting to wear me down...:(
Hang in there Dave! At least everyday is one of anticipation. :D

I really like that handle.

Jack Black Jack Black I am hoping you can get some relief concerning your back and I admire your determination to continue your weekly pedestrian peregrinations. :)

I find myself very much in agreement with you Harry, and it is always a treat to see that perfect TEW Lambsfoot :)

Thank you very much Dwight, I'm worried that if I do rest my back, I'll just seize up completely! o_O ;) :D

Hope you all have a great weekend.View attachment 1006027

Terrific pile side pic my friend :)

Thanks, Dwight,:D anticipation is what I have when I go for my colonoscopy! I can't wait until its over. :p:p

 :D

I'm glad you're enjoying it Alan :) One of the great things about a run of stag knives is that each one has its own character
Thanks again Jack. I need to get a few minutes to flush it, sand the spring a little and make it carry for me. This will undoubtedly go in my rotation. It's just right!!!

That's a looker Harry! I'm at 5 lambsfoots now and could not be happier. Once I get the pull eased a little them make great every day knives. The recent one is my favorite so far. Although I do not carry the special horn, original Guardians'.

"... watching the clouds roll away..." :D great pic GT
;) Thanks, Dwight. I'm glad you and Jack picked up on my thinly veiled pop culture reference.:)

...
LOL! Sounds like a good way to get 'go faster stripes' GT! :D My friend on the tool-stall, who is an avid wearer of braces, regularly strips down to braces over his vest - not the same as a vest in the US of course! ;) Maybe, when I pick up my new vest/waistcoat, I will try wearing braces underneath it, but over my shirt
... That's a great pic of your Union Jack

Racing stripes suntan - I hadn't even considered that advantage! :D:thumbsup: I'd appreciate pics of your wedding waistcoat with or without braces!:cool:;) Thanks for the Otis Redding link. :)

I guess I'll sort some of the excellent photos of lambsfoots that Guardians posted this week.
Here are some stag models:

Sublime, Randy!:thumbsup: That's not your first lambsfoot, is it? If you're a brand new Guardian, I'm afraid you'll be assigned the graveyard shift! ;)

Superb triple play, Ron! :cool::thumbsup:
AC could stand for Ashley's Camouflage, Jack; fascinating pic!:cool:
I can't decide which side of your AC I like better, Joshua! ;)
Hope you all have a great weekend.View attachment 1006027
Your stag looks elegant in all the nature shots you take, Dwight!:thumbsup:

Ron & Dwight, your pics make those "humble handles" look sublime!:cool:

Here are some inky ebony models:
... I am even going on a mini vacation towards the end of this week. Leavenworth, Washington. Where they have a rather excellent Oktoberfest festival. Plenty of fine beer, fine food, and such are in my very near future.

Swapped out Stag for Ebony today.

I've been hampered by resurgent back problems, been trying to keep as active as I can, but it has restricted me, and left me tired. I finally have an appointment with a back specialist at least. Going to be a struggle to get out for a hike at the weekend, but I hope I can see a bit of the countryside at least. I don't know if any of you have anything exciting planned, but I hope you have a good one. ...

I really like the background vista in your shot, Jack!:cool: I hope you can get relief from the back pain ASAP. :( My excitement this weekend will revolve around not losing any socks during laundering!! :p:rolleyes:

Film noir lambsfoots. Notice how much more blade angle the Navy mod on the right has? Makes for a very aggressive cutting angle—definitely not a skinning knife!
;) Moody shot, but an effective comparison!:thumbsup: (Thanks for the info in the Black Friday thread about Smaug 3.0 in your sig pic. :))

...I picked the new nose angle based on what I imagined might be ideal for three-cut triangular chip cuts when whittling. I ended up really liking that shape both for whittling and for everyday use, particularly when dealing with clam shell packaging.
...
I'm carrying the 34OT today. I've known its modified sheepsfoot blade ended up being similar to a lambsfoot, but I'm not sure whether I've ever directly compared them. Check this out:

RIWtefKh.jpg

It lacks the taper of a proper lambsfoot, for certain, but the nose angle is strikingly similar. Here’s the stacked view:

I guess I was looking for a lambsfoot before I knew I was looking for a lambsfoot. :)
That's really quite remarkable, Greg!:thumbsup::cool: Thanks for sharing that "coincidence". ;) Does a lambsfoot style blade work well for chip-carving, as you conjectured?

Morning Guardians.

Very enthralling photo, David; thanks!:cool: Do you know where all the stones came from in old buildings like that? Were the stones just lying everywhere, or were they carried in from a quarry, or what?

GT, that's a peach of a lambsfoot! Or, a nectarine? ;)
...
Thanks, Greg. :) It happens to be a nectarine.

...
Good to see your Black Jack GT  I share your photo-posting frustrations, I think we were sold a pup there o_O

Thanks, Jack. :) I think of myself as an "optimistic realist", but a realist would be aware that BF couldn't possibly sustain for very long on its own the amount of photos posted by members.:(

Jack I have decided to only check my post box on Wednesdays and Fridays so I'm not disappointed 5 days a week.:p:D

I appreciate your attitude, Dave, but this sure is a sad situation. :(
(Your colonoscopy comment cracked me up, since my wife has one Tuesday and I had to buy a bunch of purgatives, fruit juices, and other medically approved groceries this week - and I have my own 5 days after Thanksgiving.)

Hit me ... Black Jack!! :D:thumbsup:

Seriously... is there anything more exciting, invigorating than one of these procedures? And the preparation is even more fun! :D:D:D but I digress... Gary Black Jack is looking hale!

5K Qs 5K Qs I know what you mean about liking both sides--one is nice and groovy and the other is smoother but has some character with that valley in the butt. I'm fortunate to have a good one, though I haven't seen an AC that looked poor.
