With the short blade I am not drawing it towards me that much. I use the guards for fixed blades and the kitchen knives.

cudgee your Sunday meal looks delicious. I've never had pumpkin like that. I love everything we make with pumpkin including breads and cookies and pies, but never had it steamed as a side!

Since it is Nat's birthday (the better half) I went down to the strip district this morning and got lots of goodies for our dinner. Nice fish for her and I, beef for the others who don't like fish (imagine?!?!) Some beautiful snap peas and a really nice pumpkin!

I am very much looking forward to trying the pumpkin, thanks for the idea cudgee.

St. Stanislaus prominently stands at an intersection and is a beautiful sight. Sunday morning mass was letting out as I came by.

If you look at the top of the bell towers they look a bit small right? Well, the original ones were blown off of the church from a gas explosion across the street at the banana company. (Many many years ago)

This is the latest iteration of the same building. It was an auction house after the banana company.... no idea what it is now. They turned the whole block into yuppie stores.

This pumpkin was really good! I ended up brushing it with olive oil and giving it a good coat of s&p and roasted it in the oven. Very tasty! I don't know why it never occured to me to just eat a pumpkin. Great stuff. The skin was the best part, btw

I know, I know, the lambsfoot is a working man's (or woman's) knife. But the HHB feels like a fancy knife, in fact the fanciest knife I own. So pretty often it is my Sunday-go-to-meeting knife.

Probably the most popular pumpkin here is the Queensland blue, great for roasting. My favourite but alas I am the only 1 in the family that eats it.

We took the girls to the apple orchard today. Unfortunately, with temps in the high 80s and not single cloud in the sky, we weren’t really feeling the fall apple orchard vibes.

The girls still had fun feeding the goats and chickens, playing in the large pit of dried corn kernels, doing the zip line and getting their faces painted.

I had a healthy lunch of fried cheese curds and a footlong corn dog. (The cheese curds were split between the four of us, but the corn dog was all mine.)

There was cold beer, too.

We had planned on picking some apples, but after nearly 30 minutes of walking through row after row of apple trees with the sun beating down on us and not finding a single edible apple, we gave up. I don’t know if we came too late in the season or what, but it was pretty disappointing.

Probably too early. A lot of apples are Autumn/Fall or Winter crops. But i'm on the other side of the planet, best disregard what i say.

I think for Minnesota, we’re probably right in the middle of the season. It’s likely that part of the problem is that the part of the orchard closest to the entrance has just been overpicked. It’s a huge place, and it would be quite a hike to get to the far side where we might have found some apples. If the weather had been cooler (like it has been for the past few weeks) it might’ve been worth it, but the kids weren’t having it, and I was pretty much over it myself. (I don’t have much patience for apple picking to begin with. Something about paying twice as much to do all the work yourself…)
