While I’m normally a fan of carbon steel on traditional knives, I’ve got to say it’s nice to have a worry free stainless steel at times.
LOL! Burgon & Ball are an old Sheffield name, best known for their Sheep Shears, but not for pocket cutlery. If you search out my Sheffield Factories thread, there's a pic or two of their factory close to the confluence of the rivers Rivelin and Loxley. I started seeing their name being used on knives in gardening centres some years back, much as I see knives bearing the Wilkinson Sword name. The company who sell them sell a mixed bunch of knives, some of which look to be made in Pakistan, rather than Sheffield! The Royal Horticultural Society are just schills trying to con the uneducated, shameful reallyI had a surprise extra day at the farm today. Kirsten had a knife of a steel (I didn't catch what steel) that people tell her is not good for plant fibers.
So I went googling for the best steel for a garden knife, and came across Burgon and Ball, claiming to handcraft some nice-looking pocketknives in Sheffield, but they're available in stores only.
Recommended by the Royal Horticultural Society yet!
That's a sweet knife Steve, and great pics of itAfternoon and happy Friday Guardians
It's overcast with drizzle today so not the best for picture taking.
Large I*XL today !

You probably have better taste in just about everything Kurt!Oldy thank you but the picture you refer to is of my sometime haiku muse we know fondly here as Tool Man. And that wasn’t a hamburger but a spam and sausage sandwich. You might like a chip butty sandwich. I love them now. Tool Man and I are pretty much the same in a lot of things except I have better taste in cutlery.![]()
Yeah, the RHS endorsement isn't worth tuppence Mitch!Ive come across them for sale here. I reckon Wright's manufacture them as they have lambsfoot , peach pruner & pruner blades & loojmk the part. Light oak scales it looked liked. I had thought about picking 1 up but the "RHS endorsement " seems to imply to retailers that is worth a lot more, very pricey.
That is certainly a fine-looking LambsfootStarting my weekend early with this fine piece of snakewood in my pocket.

I knew about the shears, I do have a B&B Japanese style razor hoe, that is said to be made in SheffieldLOL! Let’s just hope that maybe it’s still right where you took the pictures at lunchtime. So sorry- I’d be sick too…I'm feeling a bit sick right now because I believe I have lost my knife of the year the I*XL. I went to empty my pockets and it's not there. I have searched the house and nowhere to be found. I haven't been anywhere today other than my walks. The last I had it was when I took those pictures at lunchtime. I'm going to have to retrace my steps tomorrow and see if i dropped after taking the pictures. Usually I would check the car seats couch etc. but I haven't used the car or sat on the couch today. Walks and at the computer is all today, I didn't even take it out to cut anything![]()

Good luck and Godspeed! Thanks guys, I'll be heading out as soon as it's light enough in the morning to look for it. Hopefully I dropped it putting it back in my pocket.

I'm not surprised Mitch, Australia and New Zealand were Burgon & Ball's biggest markets, by far. Even in Sheffield, there were people who had never even heard of the firm, but I understand they were very well-regarded over there.I knew about the shears, I do have a B&B Japanese style razor hoe, that is said to be made in Sheffield
Jack burgon and Ball is a big seller on the garden sites here, seem make just about anything under thier brand.

I'm feeling sick just thinking about Steve's knifeI hope it turns up. You must be feeling sick, i know i would.
Cool pic BarrettThanks, guys. That pic wasn’t taken too long ago, so I think it’s a pretty thorough representation of my Lambsfoot flock, with just a few missing pieces, such as my AC (which was actually missing at the time, but has since been found) and a couple new Albers that were added since.
Oh man, I hate to hear that, Steve.Best of luck in your search tomorrow, I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
I’m jealous!I thought about asking my mom to try and bring some up from Arkansas when they come up next week, but I don’t know if they’re bringing a cooler or not. You’ll have to let me know how it is.
Having a beer tonight that I’ve had in the fridge for a while and have been meaning to try. Modist Brewing Co.’s Olde Omen Bock. I thought, based on the name and the label, that it was a good pairing for tonight’s movie off the Christmas movie list, Krampus.
