Thanks Bob!Glad you have your freedom David. Ethan is looking sharp.![]()
Steve, if you keep posting that one, we’re going to have to get Paul a supply of smelling salts.![]()
Thanks, Steve.Love that one !
When I lived in KC 30 year ago, most people I knew loved Arthur Bryant's and liked Gates. I preferred Gates and a big reason for this was Gates sauce. Good choice(Had to split my post in two. I’ve seen the warning before about no more than 20 photos in a post, but I think this was the first time the forum reprimanded me for trying to make a post with more than 10,000 characters. I even edited some text out of some of the quotes, but it didn’t make a difference.)
For lunch today, I finished off the last of the pulled pork I made for Christmas Day. (We had six adults and three kids, so I smoked two 9 pound pork butts. We ended up with a lot leftover.)
I’d been meaning to try this Arthur Bryant’s BBQ sauce for a while now, and of course I had to put it up against my old favorite, Gate’s Extra Hot, for a Kansas City showdown.

I’ve gotta say, I don’t really get all the hype around this one. I know Arthur Bryant’s is a KC institution, and I’m sure the meat is good there, but the sauce just doesn’t do anything for me. The flavor is odd, and unlike any BBQ sauce I’ve ever had before. Honestly it doesn’t even taste like BBQ sauce. It’s lacking any sweetness (I’m not looking for a sugary BBQ sauce, but this one needs something). There’s also no hint of spice/heat, and I found the texture unpleasant and sort of gritty. Sadly, this one won’t be getting the Guardians of the Condiments seal of approval, at least not from me.
My Albers Katalox has been in my pocket for most of the holidays. I think it was unhappy about being beat out for my KOTY by its Afzelia Burl brother.![]()

You have a fantastic collection of vintage Lambs Steve, thank you for the great photographs of them![]()
The history of steel in Sheffield is a LONG one. The older knives here will have forged blades, made from the finest Sheffield steel, by men who were the best in the business. Stan Shaw, (an old Sheffield cutler), was asked a lot about what steel he used. He found the question exasperating. "I use GOOD steel!"![]()
Glad to hear you have escaped David!Beautiful lamb!

What a beauty of a vintage lamb Neal! John Blyde?
Always good to know what is not up to porch standards Barrett.
Meal does look delicious in spite of substandard sauce.
As for your KOTY, you did have a tough decision, though I agree with your final choice.![]()
Marketing after the almighty dollar at its finest.![]()
A friend of ours gave us a bottle of Arthur Bryant's last year, and we were pretty underwhelmed by it - I think most of it is still in our fridge, and I'm not sure when we'll ever use it up.

Hi, May I Help You?It’s probably been 20 years since I’ve eaten there, but I remember being aggressively yelled at for my order the second I walked in the door like it was yesterday.![]()
Sounds like the Soup Nazi in Seinfeld.but I remember being aggressively yelled at for my order the second I walked in the door l
Ruggedly handsome Lamb! Thanks Dwight, and yes, John Blyde.
I'm always amazed at just how many different cutlery companies from Sheffield produced a Lambfoot model, and yet how under represented they were in the United States.
