Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Gidge has stepped aside so Beni could have some pocket time on Stag Saturday. Lovin' that quirky burl, Bob!

Beni has some nice stag !

Nice to put faces with the names! Lovely LF knife too!

Good morning Guardians. Sunny but cold start of the day. Found that I have a few computer issues - like a dog it has worms! Screwed up my printer too. Got my computer geek friend, Sebastian, coming over on Monday. Going to kill the worms!! One good thing though, my HHB is in the pocket again.

Sweet !

There was a subsequent court-case on the issue. With the cutlery gaffers also being the magistrates the outcome is unsurprising, though arguing that a dozen was not a fixed number took a deal of legal chicanery.

Oh yeah, I remember the pin now.

Nice to see that book in the library! :) It sells quite well over here, despite the constant anti-knife propaganda

I thought I remembered someone posting it here (not necessarily in this thread, but on the Porch, at least) before.

Late start, helping my wife get ready for road trip. Hope all are having a good week so far.View attachment 2476436

A road trip to London? Do you have one of those amphibious cars? 😉😁

I was having a look through the Otter website earlier (my mind is rambling all over the place at the moment), and I spotted the knife below, which Otter call the York. At first glance, it immediately reminded me of the knife @birdsbeaks posted for us to see the other week (that may have been partly because I'd gone to the site seeking information for him though). Upon closer inspection, there's no direct connection, and the blade appears to have a slight curve. Otter refer to it being a modern blade shape, which I think is correct. Makes one wonder if they could make a Lamb though :D

My first (and worst) A. Wright Lambsfoot, which I ordered sight unseen from a famous shop in Sheffield, had a curved edge about like that. 🙄

No, definitely not Bob. There are a lot of modern near-Lambs about (often called 'Reverse Tantos', or otherwise vaguely described), but I am sure none of them work as well as the Lambsfoot, which is why so many cutlers produced the pattern. They certainly don't compare aesthetically of course :) Still, with a traditional cutlery firm, it make you think of the possibilities:) Here's Schultz, a genuine German Lambsfoot :D

KZZtVUm.jpg

I had a discussion (not on BF) a while back where I corrected someone who referred to a sheepsfoot blade as a Lambsfoot, and he said he thought the only difference between a sheepsfoot and a Lambsfoot was that a sheepsfoot had a curved edge. 🤨😵‍💫🤣

Good looking German Lambsfoot, oder ist es Lammfuß?

Now that we got the bad news out of the way. The weather here in Wisconsin is lovely. Supposed to get into the 50s next week!! Nothing much going on here. On a DayQuil/Nyquil diet 😂😂😂. HHB has been in the pocket and have cut through about 4 large oranges. Vitamin C time. Hope everyone is having a great day.

I think you’ve really lucked out on your wife’s first winter in Wisconsin. 🤣 It was 54° here the other day, on the last day of January, actually. This winter has just been bizarre.

Hope you’re feeling better now, Paul!

An average cutler was dead by 30, so they adopted the old pirate motto of 'A short life, but a merry one!'. Sheffield reputedly had more pubs than any other town in the kingdom, and cutlers were the biggest drinkers of all. They'd start heavy drinking on Saturday evening, continue through Sunday, Monday (Saint Monday), and possibly into Tuesday or Wednesday. Then came the 'Bull Days', when they worked round the clock to get their knives finished, and get paid, before heading straight to the pub again

One of my favorite anecdotes that you shared with me when we met up in Sheffield was about how the pub owners would prepare for the end of shift by pouring as many pints as they could and lining them up on any available flat surface on and behind the bar. 😁 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺

Just checking in to see how my fellow Guardians are getting along. 🤠

Good to see you, John!

February. The months of the made up holiday where men are forced to buy gifts for their significant other😂😂😂 I could actually use a 3 day reminder. Don’t want to be in the doghouse. Love that Albers, Jack. Hope your having a great day.

I love this time of year, because my wife couldn’t care less about Valentines Day. 😁 The only thing I have to worry about is helping Eleanor make a valentine box for school.

Our weather couldn't be farther from what it was like this time last year

We've had less than 5 inches of snow this year 😲 Last year we ran out of places to put it !

It has been bizarre, hasn’t it? This is only our seventh (sixth-and-a-half? We moved in January 2018) winter here, so I’m no expert, but this certainly seems to be beyond what would normally be considered a “mild” Minnesota winter.

8.40pm, and I still haven't finished editing the pics I took today! :eek I'll re-size a few, and post them below!

Some great pics of the Thursday Market crew, Jack! Were those taken with your new camera?

LOL! :D Yes, I'd say they have the same tailor, but Tool Man is tight as a drum, and buys cheap stuff from fleamarkets. Andy, on the other hand, browses charity shops, in well-to-do areas, purchasing good quality clothing left behind my dead, rich men! :D ;)

😁🤣

Good Groundhog Day to you. Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow. Early spring. 10,000 witnessed Phil’s prognostication early this morning in Gobblers Knob, Pennsylvania.

50+ degrees in Minnesota at the end of January, you don’t have to be a genius (or a prognosticating groundhog) to figure that one out this year. 🤣

Sorry for the excessive multi-quote, Guardians, it had been since Tuesday since I had caught up, and this thread moves fast!

Yesterday I had to get a tire replaced on my truck. I actually bought new tires in December, but the other day I noticed a bump/ridge on the sidewall of one (presumably air getting between the layers of the tire, which, of course, isn’t good). Thankfully it was covered under warranty and only cost me about $20 in labor to have it replaced.

When Eleanor got out of school, we headed over to a place in St. Paul so she could get her ears pierced. That went about as well as could be expected. 😁 She doesn’t exactly handle pain well, but she toughed it out and got it done.

Hope everyone’s weekend is off to a good start!

Thanks Jack and echcoscout, and good to hear that Rufus1949 and Joefairbanks signed up for the magazine.
Hopefully you will be able to access some of the previous articles online that Jack was involved with which were very interesting.
As a small teaser, this next article in "Knife Magazine" will show the oldest known example of a Lamb Foot knife.

Enclosed is a picture of one of the last Lamb Foot knives to be offered by the original Wostenholm company.
As Jack has mentioned several times, the Sheffield cutlery industry was sadly on a steep decline following WWII, and was mostly dead by the 1980s.
Wostenholm and Joseph Rodgers had merged in 1971, but that was not enough to save either company and together had gone bankrupt by 1983.

Lol..my step daughter. A neighbor did have one in the 60's and a boat wake swamped it.😁

Enjoy that weather while you can Barrett.👍🏻

I have been carrying one knife, which is a bit unusual ... And even more unusual is that it's a case stockman. It's been hogging the show.

Between work and life I've been pretty busy and haven't really thought about it but I tossed big soupy into the side pocket of my carpenter jeans today to get some lambsfoot action this weekend.

This is one of those knives I'll keep till the wheels fall off.

Hope everyone is well, happy and healthy. I've gotten very far behind on many of the threads on the forum here. Have a great weekend.

Miss a couple of days and there's ten pages to catch up on... I had to be choosey as to what to quote and reply to...
Yummy
That's a happy pup... love the picture. 🤠
Tools of the teaching trade. 🤠
Gorgeous! 🤠
I'm wondering how this bloke managed to remain simply "Martin." Is he "connected" - if you know what I mean?
Hahaha... I was thinking the same thing... either that he's too boring, or everybody was afraid to give him a silly name. 🤣
On a 30 day eat and drink healthy challenge.
My condolences.
Great picture. 🤠
Nice to see some Charlie Lambs still popping up. 🤠
EEK
Good to see you, John!
Thank you, my friend. :)
That Lamb has character... I love it. 🤠

Well, it's February and as the veterans of this Guardians thread know, every February, I post a reminder about "The Scoop on Wombat Poop". So this will be a refresher for the veterans and an education for you guys/gals/youngsters that are new to this thread since last February.
