Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Several hours past dark here, but I couldn't resist taking a few pics of my fancy Big 'Un - made by Ashley's dad :) Think I'm going to be eating beans on toast for Christmas dinner! ;)

Mighty fine Jack!! Mighty fine!!

Thanks Jack! Great photo of your AC!:)

Thanks Ron :)

I don't even know what that is, but I want it now.:D

It's what Robin Hood's bow was made from ;)

Yorkshire Yew looks pretty nice!

I just about missed this!! That said, not an entry for me -- I've already got an Ebony 2018 Lambsfoot, and will happy to pay for my 2019 -- but I will go ahead and venture a guess. December 20th sounds like a good day. (I also noticed that Christmas Day appears to have gone unguessed so far, though I don't think it'll take that long for this thread to hit 500 pages.)

Holy smokes!! That's really something special, Jack!  I love the file work; not too flashy, but nicely done!

I like the Guardians pins, Jack! (Did I miss out on something? :D)

Quick update on my Ashley's Choice. A couple weeks back, I sat down to sharpen it for the first time. Now I've mentioned here before that I've had a bit of trouble sharpening some A. Wright's knives in the past. The problem for me usually comes from the transition from the tang to the main grind of the blade, where the blade near the tang isn't thinned down behind the edge as much as the rest of the blade. I've found that using a diamond needle file to bring the sharpening choil out away from the tang a bit can help with this, so that's what I tried on my AC. It seemed to help, and I thought I had good edge on it, but when I went to test it on paper, it wouldn't slice worth a darn. Well, another thing I've learned about sharpening is if you get frustrated, it's best to put the knife down, go work on something else and come back to it later. So I put it down, walked away... then forgot about it for a week or so. I finally sat down last night and gave it another go, with much better results. It's not quite a laser, but it is a nice little slicer now.  Not a bad looker, either, IMO. :D

Nice work Barrett :) Pins will go out with the 2019 Guardians Lambsfoot ;)

Mighty fine Jack!! Mighty fine!!

Thanks pal :)

Ron, your Big'un and Jack, your AC are two of the finest knives in this whole Traditional forum!

I'm pleased to say that RALF isn't jealous, but just happy to be in such illustrious company! :)

Thank you very much Jeff! That’s quite a compliment my friend! :) RALF is a fine example also!

Wow! I did not realize I was so behind here... I also missed that there is going to be a giveaway. I am entering only so that I might find the opportunity to bless someone with the virtues of the Lambsfoot. I already have a 2018 Ebony and it is one of my favorites.

My guess will be December 20th.

Jack, I had wondered about this knife when I saw it in the Totin' thread. I could not recall if I had seen it before. (Apparently not)

What a fabulous knife! It looks to be very finely made. I've been very impressed with the latest Lambsfoot knives I have acquired (the 2018 Ebony and AC), their workmanship on those knives are rather impeccable. I imagine it being the same on that gorgeous Ivory.

You've already got me "pining" for my stag lambsfoot I carried last week, Dylan!

There is something to be said for quality Stag, GT. I am glad you find so much pleasure in yours, it is certainly a fine knife.

Hey Guardians, what handle cover have you never seen on a lambsfoot that you would most want to see?

This is a question that often crosses my mind. On one hand, wood covers seem to pair with Lambsfoot knives like shortbread and tea (can't go wrong). On the other hand, there are numerous beautiful examples of old Lambsfoot knives covered in bone. I will never be opposed to seeing Lambsfoot knives dressed in woods of various sorts. Ebony and Ironwood are amongst my favorites but there are some less common ones out there as well that can certainly strike my fancy.

Having one of my Lambsfoot knives dressed up in jigged bone by Glenn and seeing the remarkable jigging it is in possession of has me curious about the possibilities. Wrights own bone leaves a lot to be desired but if one could provide them with a different source or encourage them to try their hand at their own, that could be special indeed.

A Lambsfoot dressed up in a dark red/brown jigged bone with fancy iron bolsters and liners would be a rather phenomenal knife.

On the one hand, I am a traditionalist, so if it isn't traditional to the pattern it's wrong. ;)
On the other hand, I think smooth or sawcut bone would be nifty.

I like your ideas. I am a big fan of sawcut bone and I do wonder how that would look on a Lambsfoot. Smooth white bone would look incredibly striking as well, I think.

Well, I am planning on having a few pints later this evening and as I have this ebony classic in my pocket today, it will continue to accompany me and the pile of Irish cigarillos well into the night.

I'd love to see a nicely burled juniper wood on a lambsfoot. The juniper itself has nice looking character, but I love the peppery smell it possesses.

Good to see you here Dylan :) I have you down for the 20th

I hope that everyone who has entered has actually read my giveaway post: https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/guardians-of-the-lambsfoot.1406735/page-478#post-18610468

Please note:

"The prize is the ebony '18 below. If you are a Guardian who already has one of those knives, you can, if you wish, opt instead to have one of the 2019 Guardians Lambsfoot knives (which I'll obviously stump up for! :D). Apart from having previously posted in this thread, the only condition is that you agree to carry and use the knife, and post some pics."

It IS very well made Dylan, a bit fancier than I usually go for too ;)

I hope you have a wonderful evening my friend :)

I love the smell of juniper too :)

Enjoying hearing everyone's thoughts on this

Jack, have you decided on what the 2019 Guardian Lambsfoot knife will be? If so, are you still keeping it a secret?
