Hey Guardians, what handle cover have you never seen on a lambsfoot that you would most want to see?
I've seen ivory once, so maybe I have to pick something else: cocobolo or desert ironwood. Maybe they've been made, but would love to see them. And more affordable than ivory.

Edit: hadn't read ahead!

I'm not a big fan of photos that use filters, and I don't know if this particular pic uses a filter of some kind, but I think that's a really cool pic of your AC, Jack!:cool::thumbsup:

Thanks mate :) As often seems to be the case, when I was snapping a pic the sun suddely hit my kitchen window, and made it hard for me to get one with even lighting. Hence the filter. Here's the original

Another fine shot of your AC!:cool::cool: Thanks for mentioning my Lam Jack, Jack! :)

Thank you GT, you are very generous with your kind Words :)

Your hiking gear comments make sense to me, Jack.;) I suppose I've never been a real junkie about any kind of equipment, except possibly calculators!:rolleyes:

:D

Thanks for the info about your granny's cataracts, and for the accolades for a couple of lambsfoot pics I posted!:thumbsup:

A pleasure, I hope you're already noticing an improvement in your vision GT

Thanks for your report on your Sheffield trip, Jack, including some history of the city!:cool::thumbsup: That rosewood model you picked up would have passed for ebony with me!:thumbsup::cool:

Thanks pal, nice wood isn't it? :)

Y:eek:WZA! Jack, does this mean you'll be editing your knife of the year post?? ;)

LOL! No, I'll stick with the pocket-hogging AC! :D

Lam Jack takes a licking but keeps on ticking :

Still looking good :) Any word on @mrknife, haven't seen him here for a long time?

Earlier this week I took a nice ride along a reclaimed rail to trail path, that was a 26 mile ride, first ten miles in was packed stone dust, and then it turns to Tarmac. Very scenic path with long uphill grades heading north...plus side is an easy ride back to the car on the return ride :)

We have a few of those paths here Duane :)

Good on you for the walking! Every bit helps:thumbsup: I've lost over fourty pounds and two pant sizes down :) it wasn't easy at first, but it was well worth it. Never looking back on this new chapter of my life.

Good for you, well done  Are you going to do a giveaway for the pants?! :D

kamagong kamagong mentioned rice, carne asada, and guacamole, which are commonly eaten for lunch or dinner, but not usually for breakfast. Beans are eaten at any meal. When I say "beans," I am referring to refried pinto beans. They are not actually re-fried, but they are called "frijoles refritos" in Spanish, and someone translated it as "refried beans." A typical breakfast plate might include eggs, beans, and bacon, for example, with tortillas (flour or corn) on the side. A lunch or dinner plate might have three enchiladas (usually cheese, chicken, or beef) or maybe tamales, with rice and beans, and tortillas on the side. Tortillas are commonly used like bread. I often just fold one in half, or maybe tear it in half, and eat it with my meal, using one to sop up food perhaps. Some make a taco with the tortilla, putting meat or beans or eggs in it.

On Sunday mornings I go to a local Mexican restaurant to buy breakfast tacos for my family. I eat two of them, and one is usually beans and bacon. I may add shredded cheddar cheese at home, and ALWAYS add fresh hot sauce from the restaurant.

My mother and grandmother made homemade flour tortillas often when I was young. Nothing beats a good homemade tortilla fresh from the grill.

Anyway, that's just a little tortilla protocol primer from a south Texas boy.

Edited to add lambsfoot content; forgot which thread this was!

Great stuff Vince, I always wondered why they were called refried beans! :D

That’s taken the bar to a whole new level.

:)

That my friend is hand hammered pins!:cool::)

Yep, that's all they do in Sheffield :)

Hey Guardians, what handle cover have you never seen on a lambsfoot that you would most want to see?

Good question Joshua, have to have a think about that one! :) I would love to see some checkered ivory or ebony on a custom, or 'plain' lignum vitae (which I hope to do on a Guardian's knife at some point)

Lovely knife Ron

Hope everyone is having a great day :) I'm off for a pre-Christmas pint with a mate later, so I'm going to swap over to my AC

Thanks Kevin, just got back

Great pic Dwight

Glad you spotted this Christian

I had an interesting trip to Sheffield :) I took a large box of posh biscuits and a card for the fellers at Wright's, and a bottle of gluten-free beer for Michael, Ashley's dad and the Head Cutler, who is celiac. I had a very interesting chat with John Maleham about a couple of knives for next year, and he kindly gave me a pile of old documents I'll have to photograph later :) I always ask if he has anything interesting, and as a consequence, my wallet lost a lot of weight! :D A few of us were talking about rosewood recently, and how attractive it is. Wright's rosewood comes from Indonesia, but while searching around in the loft, John recently found some African rosewood, which is a little darker and glossier. He used it on some Lambsfoot knives, and I managed to get hold of the last few :) I also got another rather special Lambsfoot, which I'll have to photograph when the light is better

78 years ago today, Hitler's Luftwaffe virtually destroyed Sheffield city centre...

Many Sheffielders would argue that the City Council's Planning Department have been continuing the work ever since! o_O

The old Herbert Slater works now has new tenants, but it's a shame they felt a need to put modern signs up on a historic building :(

Looks like you had a good trip, Jack. I always enjoy the pics and history links.

Several hours past dark here, but I couldn't resist taking a few pics of my fancy Big 'Un - made by Ashley's dad :) Think I'm going to be eating beans on toast for Christmas dinner! ;)

That one ROCKS!

;) Thanks for the Lambsfoot love, FBC. :) You might be right about the Cracker Jack showing up as a Free Choice, but a fairly big Black Friday spree delivery came in, and those knives will probably debut as Free Choice knives over the next several weeks!:rolleyes:
Sounds like life is good at Casa de GT. I'm lookin' forward to seeing the new heard of sharps.

Have a superlative day my fellow Guardians!

On the one hand, I am a traditionalist, so if it isn't traditional to the pattern it's wrong. ;)
On the other hand, I think smooth or sawcut bone would be nifty.

Bone would be beautiful! Has sawcut bone ever been done on a swayback handle?

Checkering would be outstanding! I love the checkering Evan Nicolaides does on his custom knives--really intricate.

Are there any trees indigenous to England that are particularly unique to that region that would make a good knife handle?

@glennbad has also done some nice checkering I think :)

Yorkshire Yew, again, it'll come ;)

Someone mentioned checkering, and I love the look/feel of checkered handles. One such handle to which I have a minor addiction is Victorinox Alox. I NEED an Alox Lambsfoot, traditional or not!

I never thought we would get this far, but I see this thread is steadfastly moving towards 500 pages, (happily coinciding with the festive season), and I have been thinking about celebrating the impending milestone with a giveaway for everyone who has helped us to get here :) I was looking for something a few days ago, and came across one of the 2018 Guardians Lambsfoot knives in ebony, so I thought it would make an appropriate prize :) So, here's how it works, if you want to enter, just make a post indicating you're in, and guess the date (Yorkshire time! ;) ) when we'll reach 500 pages. It's open to anyone who has made a post in this thread before today. If you get the date right, I'll put your name, together with the other posters who guessed the same date, and randomly select a winner. The prize is the ebony '18 below. If you are a Guardian who already has one of those knives, you can, if you wish, opt instead to have one of the 2019 Guardians Lambsfoot knives (which I'll obviously stump up for! :D). Apart from having previously posted in this thread, the only condition is that you agree to carry and use the knife, and post some pics. Good luck everyone, and thanks for keeping this thread going. Please post as normal, but as we approach 500 posts, I don't expect to see any active shenanigans! ;) :D

Edit - Cut off point for entries will be at page 490

I have just been totting up all the giveaway entries, so far the 19th and 21st are joint favourite, with the 17th, 18th, 24th, and 29th coming second, and the 15th, 20th, 22nd, 26th, and 27th favoured least ;) Still another 5 pages before entries close though

I just about missed this!! That said, not an entry for me -- I've already got an Ebony 2018 Lambsfoot, and will happy to pay for my 2019 -- but I will go ahead and venture a guess. December 20th sounds like a good day. (I also noticed that Christmas Day appears to have gone unguessed so far, though I don't think it'll take that long for this thread to hit 500 pages.)

Holy smokes!! That's really something special, Jack!  I love the file work; not too flashy, but nicely done!

I have another busy day tomorrow, starting off with my weekly trip to Leeds market, piano keys in pocket ;)

I like the Guardians pins, Jack! (Did I miss out on something? :D)

Quick update on my Ashley's Choice. A couple weeks back, I sat down to sharpen it for the first time. Now I've mentioned here before that I've had a bit of trouble sharpening some A. Wright's knives in the past. The problem for me usually comes from the transition from the tang to the main grind of the blade, where the blade near the tang isn't thinned down behind the edge as much as the rest of the blade. I've found that using a diamond needle file to bring the sharpening choil out away from the tang a bit can help with this, so that's what I tried on my AC. It seemed to help, and I thought I had good edge on it, but when I went to test it on paper, it wouldn't slice worth a darn. Well, another thing I've learned about sharpening is if you get frustrated, it's best to put the knife down, go work on something else and come back to it later. So I put it down, walked away... then forgot about it for a week or so. I finally sat down last night and gave it another go, with much better results. It's not quite a laser, but it is a nice little slicer now.  Not a bad looker, either, IMO. :D
