Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Sorry pal :D I did discover that I have been paying way over the odds for D&B at the market chippy. Normally, I'm buying food at the same time, but today, I just bought a can of D&B - £1.75!! That's twice what anyone else charges, so I'll be going elsewhere in the future.
Wow...it's 1.21 pounds on this side of the pond.🫤

Thanks Jack. Perhaps you may remember a fellow Guardian named Harvey - he went by Cigarrodog. Harvey had a magnificent collection of vintage lambs. Sadly he passed away a while back. A great loss to the forum in general and this thread in particular. He was a very special fellow and a masterful photographer. As time went by his lambs began to show up on the "big river" site. When this wonderful old lamb appeared I immediately recognized it and was able to make the highest bid. So, the point I'm making is that this beautiful lambsfoot has much greater value to all of us here having been one of his prized lambs. There were several others "rescued" off the "big river" site by other guardians who recognized them. :)
I certainly do my friend, and think it's wonderful that you, and some of our other fellow Guardians, were able to rescue these knives, so that they continue to 'live on' here :) That's another fantastic pic Dwight :)

I have been trying to find the black and white photo I have of Harvey, but I must have mislabelled it :( I know I have it, as I saw it not long ago, but I'm unable to find it with a search :(

Most places it is between 50p and £1, less if you buy multiple cans, so £1.75 is outrageous  I was watching a video last night about a fish and chip shop that sells a large portion of smoked haddock, chips, and mushy peas for £3. The same would cost you about £15 in Leeds market 🤨

The behind the scenes scrutiny that Dwight and others do for this thread and the Forum in general does deserve mention and recognition. Well said Jack. :)❤️

Great stuff mate, it is like it has returned home into the hands of someone who not only knows it's historical value, but the story behind it and the emotional value. Well done Dwight. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ 🤝

We really do have some great members here Leon :)

I’m glad you got one of Harvey’s knives, Dwight. I know a few other Guardians and BF members did, as well. Bit of a shame they all turned up for auction online (sold by an estate sale reseller, if I remember correctly). I hope his family got a fair price for them, but I’m guessing the online seller probably got them relatively cheap and made quite a bit of money themselves. 🫤

Wow! Shame about the lack of D&B though :(

The variety they carry is impressive, but I’d be willing to wager that half or more of it is pretty awful stuff. 🤣

Highway robbery! 😲

Well, what actually happened was that Tool Man bought himself his favourite cake before anyone else arrived, and ate over half of it before me and Gravel turned up (Boring Ray is diabetic, so could be relied on not to eat any). We were both a bit later than usual, so his greed even overcame his tight-fistedness! :D It's a good job that Tool Man doesn't DO the lottery, because I don't think he'd outlast a substantial windfall by more than a few months!🤣

Ok, that makes more sense. 🤣

"More important things than pocket money"? That's what my dad thought too!

I imagine quite a lot of what the kids said in that video was parroted from their parents (as kids are certainly known to do). Still, I found it interesting/amusing. I wondered if some of the ones who called out a specific friend (“I know a girl who gets 8 shillings a week”) were talking about a kid who was in the same classroom. 😁

That’s great mate, I didn’t realise it was his. I’m sure he’d be happy to know it made its way back to our flock 🙂

Tool Man is from a middle-class home, with parents for teachers, and had to work hard to be daft as a brush, but he doesn't miss a trick when it comes to not spending his own money. He developed rigor mortis of the wallet from a young age :D:thumbsup:

Classic shot my friend, I hope you manage to track some down, at a reasonable price, soon :)

Apologies for my confusion! I find myself in a confused state a lot lately! ;)

Sadly, there isn't any upgrade in F & F between the least expensive knives in the range, and the dearest :(

Wright's Pere David used to all come from one estate. Sadly, they had an accident getting down the cellar steps, and are no more! ;)

You sometimes get that with Sambar too, very attractive :) The Sheffield cutlers were very badly affected by the Indian government's export ban on Sambar, but they are an unimaginative lot, I don't know why they didn't look to importing it from Australia, for example
Yes sir, it is frustrating that they don't seem to take a lot of pride in their workmanship.

I didn't realize that Harvey had passed away. Very sorry to hear it, I enjoyed his posts. Glad to see that you and some other members were able to rescue some of his collection!

Makes me think it would be a wise decision for me to have my wife contact someone here to liquidate my collection, if that came to pass.

I like the covers on your 🐑 👍🤠

🐑👍🤠
Thanks! They feel great in hand!

Got it with me again today.... a little office time before hitting another jobsite.

Terrible to see the reputation earned by their forefathers just thrown away :(

It was very sudden, and a shock to us all Steve :(

I'm sure you're not alone in being concerned about such things
