Thank you DavidHope your night and tomorrow go good buddy![]()
Cool pic
I might have to take a break for a while Mitch, walking round my neighbourhood, there are a lot of folks still suffering from Carnival!Speaking my language Jack. Love sharp ginger beer and spirits.![]()
Interesting pic buddy
Aren't they beautifully made?
Sweet
What a beauty!
That's not a dead bird under the firewood, it's some stuffing (rolled in dirt and dead grass) from a dog toy that was smuggled outside.

Cool pic LeonDouble Lamb content. Lambs looking over a Lamb..

Sadly, there isn't any upgrade in F & F between the least expensive knives in the range, and the dearestHonestly, the F&F isn't the worst, but it is underwhelming. The different sized bolsters is my main gripe, along with the spring not being flush in open or closed position. Comparing it to a French or Italian knife of the same price, it's a loser.
Wright's Pere David used to all come from one estate. Sadly, they had an accident getting down the cellar steps, and are no more!Pere David is impressive if you read about the deer themselves. I did a small research project on them back in my university days. All but went extinct. England had at one point the only herd left in existence if memory serves me well. I also recall that the genetic bottleneck was such that it’s anticipated one day they will no longer be able to breed and then will go extinct. They’re an old world deer which have a few unique features not observed in other deer.
No you’re not, you pay good money for a knife I think it’s fair to have reasonable expectations. I’ve been disappointed with some of the more expensive knives I’ve bought.
You sometimes get that with Sambar too, very attractiveVery interesting what you wrote about the Pere David Deer. Something I have never even considered, but I'm intrigued! I have read that the same condition is affecting the German people!
I am disappointed with the overall F&F but I still do really like the knife. As odd and potentially unattractive the covers are, it almost reminds me of marrow bone.
Here's the pile side

That's quite a selection Barrett
Root beer is definitely popular here, and there are seemingly hundreds of brands, from big names to smaller mom-and-pop operations. A lot of breweries (you know, the kind that brew actual beer) also make their own root beer. I do like root beer, though some are certainly better than others, and I’ve had a few that weren’t great.
About 40 minutes from where we live, kind of out in the middle of nowhere, there’s a huge candy store (I posted about it here last year; worth a look if you haven’t seen it, it’s an eccentric place). In addition to candy and all sorts of other stuff, they have a huge selection of different sodas. This wall is just root beer and sarsaparilla (and there was more in a couple large coolers that I didn’t get a pic of).

I grew up watching Ben Hall mate!I had to read that twice. I thought you were insulting the man!![]()
It was the early 1980's when I visited Barrett, certainly no later than '84 or '85, and you could see it had changed over the years, there was a pin ball table for example. The rest of it though, looked to be more or less as it might have been 50 or more years before, with a basic bar counter, and stools, plus a few tables. It was only a small place, but there lots of them at one time. Temperance was a massive movement at one time, though I think far more people signed the pledge than ever stuck to it, and there were almost always a lot of Methodists in the city. I say, 'almost always', because on the first occasion John Wesley visited, the house he was staying in was attacked, and he was lucky to escape in one pieceThat’s an interesting bit of history, Jack. I wonder how that compares to the soda fountains that were popular here in the first half of the 20th century.
I've only had the sweet root beer I'm afraid, but D & B definitely reminds me of sarsaparilla. Talking of which...Root beer can definitely be quite sweet (some of them are way too sweet), but I enjoy it every once in a while. Dandelion & burdock actually reminded me a bit of root beer or sarsaparilla when I’ve had it.
That sounds like a 'scone' moment!Being a transplanted southerner living in Minnesota, my biggest complaint about root beer is hearing Minnesotans pronounce the word “root” like it rhymes with “foot.”![]()
Oh no!
It's led an adventurous life Jer
Beautiful photos Bob
That's a lot of roos Jack!Had an agronomy trial tour today 3hrs from home. Tomorrow Han is heading couple hours down the road for a baby scan so I’m home with the boys. Always fun!.

LOL!Butty is a handsome feline. Happy Market Day. I look forward to Jack’s report. Back to my GL-24 today. Such a handy blade.
Earlier this week I felt like trying some spam. I avoid the big grocery stores here like Safeway. The self check deal bothers me. Having to wait in line because they don’t have enough checkers annoys me. I’m not taking it anymore. We have some great smaller stores I go to instead. But some are on the healthy food side. I asked if they had Spam. I kinda knew they wouldn’t. The employee was very nice but of course they didn’t. They do have a large section devoted to homeopathy stuff…King Charles would like this store even without Spam. I have to yell at some clouds now.

I love these stories at the marketGood afternoon Guardians, it's just coming up to 4pm here, and I hope everyone is having a good day. I was able to get down to the market for the morning, but had quite a lot of errands to run while I was down there, paying bills at the nearby post office, buying bread, etc. Tool Man had actually shelled out for his favourite 'school slab' when I arrived, though he did eat almost all of it!Gravel treated us to sausage rolls, and I stumped up for doughnuts, and apple pie, so we had a bit of a feast.

We were short on visitors, but Barry The Original Ted called in, along with Sheepshead Dave, who hasn't been down in a bit. Old Shirley also visited, bringing the custard doughnuts Tool Man is fond of. I often joke with new parents, that the first 25 years are the hardest, but Shirley still has her 2 feckless sons at home, and they are in their 60's! Slimline Scott and his brother are both still with their parents, long after one might have expected them to fly the coopWith things to do, I left just as Gravel arrived with a triple portion of mushroom bhajis, and yoghurt sauce, some of which is plastered on Tool Man's face in the photo below. He looks like he's been caught out eating them all (which he almost certainly did)!

Great pics Gary !
Lovely black beauty![]()
Thanks for the kind comments about Black Jack, Steve & David & Dwight. That fly has very good taste GT!
LOL GT
Gracias mi amigo !
I am afraid all that experience with feral creatures was of no help this time lol
My strategywas to guess/count the number of beans on the uppermost layer.
I then I guessed the number of "layers" that it would take to go all the way to the lowest one.
I then guessed that each layer would have about 10 beans less than the previous upper one.
I added it all up and "BINGO"
As you see I did an awful lot of "guessing" lol
Oh no worries at all GT, apology accepted

Sounds like a less than ideal situation, David.I once got turned around in east Jerusalm in 02. tensions were high at that time. The pucker factor was high. I had my compass with me so finally got things sorted![]()

Thanks Jack. Perhaps you may remember a fellow Guardian named Harvey - he went by Cigarrodog. Harvey had a magnificent collection of vintage lambs. Sadly he passed away a while back. A great loss to the forum in general and this thread in particular. He was a very special fellow and a masterful photographer. As time went by his lambs began to show up on the "big river" site. When this wonderful old lamb appeared I immediately recognized it and was able to make the highest bid. So, the point I'm making is that this beautiful lambsfoot has much greater value to all of us here having been one of his prized lambs. There were several others "rescued" off the "big river" site by other guardians who recognized them.Lovely knife, I really dig the fluted bolsters.
Wow!They have an even larger selection of other sodas (“cokes” as we’d call ‘em where I grew up, Minnesotans would probably say “pops”). All this, and no D&B.
![]()
Yeah, me too mate!I’ll take a Sheffield pub over a temperance bar any day.![]()
Sorry palI’m jealous!![]()
Well, what actually happened was that Tool Man bought himself his favourite cake before anyone else arrived, and ate over half of it before me and Gravel turned up (Boring Ray is diabetic, so could be relied on not to eat any). We were both a bit later than usual, so his greed even overcame his tight-fistedness!That does sound like a feast, Jack. And Tool Man chipped in?! Did he win the lottery or something? Maybe keep an eye out for other signs…(Just kidding, Tool Man doesn’t strike me as the type who would handle a windfall with reserve or moderation).

It was perfect my friendI hope the GL-24 did a good job cutting the cake.![]()

"More important things than pocket money"? That's what my dad thought too!I came across this video from 1970 earlier today, and thought some of you might find it interesting. The kid in the striped shirt is clearly stressed out about inflation; I doubt he’s feeling much better about it these days.
I wonder if any of these kids spent some of their pocket money on a Lambsfoot?
