Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Interesting stag !
It's Pere David stag, which can be a bit underwhelming.
Love the file work! Sorry to hear the rest of the F&F doesn’t match up to it.

Such a shame, if not entirely surprising :( Nicely photographed though Steve :)
Honestly, the F&F isn't the worst, but it is underwhelming. The different sized bolsters is my main gripe, along with the spring not being flush in open or closed position. Comparing it to a French or Italian knife of the same price, it's a loser.

However, it does have charm and I honestly do really enjoy it. Ugly duckling I guess
Market Day tomorrow, and while I don't have time to hang out there all day, I'm hoping to call in at least

Gorgeous!
I very nearly bought one of those myself but wondered the very same thing about F&F. It’s a nice looking knife from half way across the world at least. I just won’t get any closer 😁
I'm probably being too harsh. It's not terrible, but not quite at the level it should be. As a work knife, it excels. Just doesn't have quite the same class you would expect from a file worked knife.
The one I have is one of my favorite knives. Not one complaint about it!

I guess it's the luck of the draw, though. I've recently got a fancy M. May and there's nothing really wrong with it, but I expected it to be... Nicer?? I don't know it just isn't as refined as I thought it would be.

PS that company makes pretty good ginger beer. Not as spicy like the Jamaican ones.
Glad you got a beauty!

Pere David is impressive if you read about the deer themselves. I did a small research project on them back in my university days. All but went extinct. England had at one point the only herd left in existence if memory serves me well. I also recall that the genetic bottleneck was such that it’s anticipated one day they will no longer be able to breed and then will go extinct. They’re an old world deer which have a few unique features not observed in other deer.

No you’re not, you pay good money for a knife I think it’s fair to have reasonable expectations. I’ve been disappointed with some of the more expensive knives I’ve bought.

Very interesting what you wrote about the Pere David Deer. Something I have never even considered, but I'm intrigued! I have read that the same condition is affecting the German people!

I am disappointed with the overall F&F but I still do really like the knife. As odd and potentially unattractive the covers are, it almost reminds me of marrow bone.

Here's the pile side

Good morning guardians, didn’t get much sleep last night and sick of tossing and turning so just thought I’d wake up. Fluid and crap sitting on my chest.

I was chatting with an American friend recently and he was talking about root beer which is not a thing in Aus. We both did some googling and found that sarsparilla is almost the same thing.

I bought a 4 pack, opened the first one and took a sip. Awful! It’s like a mix between the stuff we put on before footy games to warm up muscles and liquorice. My wife tasted it and thought the same, though added “it’s probably an acquired taste”.

Not to be one to waste anything I finished the rest over the next week.
Yesterday I was walking past the soft drink isle and spotted them on sale, something drew me to them. I’ll be, I think I like it now?

Fortunately the knife is not an acquired taste. Like me Hannah loves ebony, but even she really likes the Micarta on this lamb. So it gets the wife tick of approval ✔️

😉😁

Root beer is definitely popular here, and there are seemingly hundreds of brands, from big names to smaller mom-and-pop operations. A lot of breweries (you know, the kind that brew actual beer) also make their own root beer. I do like root beer, though some are certainly better than others, and I’ve had a few that weren’t great.

About 40 minutes from where we live, kind of out in the middle of nowhere, there’s a huge candy store (I posted about it here last year; worth a look if you haven’t seen it, it’s an eccentric place). In addition to candy and all sorts of other stuff, they have a huge selection of different sodas. This wall is just root beer and sarsaparilla (and there was more in a couple large coolers that I didn’t get a pic of).

I’m glad your wife likes the knife, Jack. That always helps! 😁

Sorry to hear you're crook Jack :(

I had to read that twice. I thought you were insulting the man! 🤣

Many years ago, in England, there were temperance bars, which served sarsaparilla, among other things. I actually went ion the last temperance bar in Sheffield - Jack's Temperance Bar - Just before I closed, and I think it's the only time I've tasted sarsaparilla. Root beer is commonly available where I live, but it's far too sweet for me. Ginger beer, on the other hand is one of the few soft drinks I ever buy. I drank a lot of it at the weekend, though it was distinctly unn-soft by the time I'd finished adding 2 types of rum (and lime)
I'm glad I did in retrospect, definitely a bit of history

That’s an interesting bit of history, Jack. I wonder how that compares to the soda fountains that were popular here in the first half of the 20th century.

Root beer can definitely be quite sweet (some of them are way too sweet), but I enjoy it every once in a while. Dandelion & burdock actually reminded me a bit of root beer or sarsaparilla when I’ve had it.

Being a transplanted southerner living in Minnesota, my biggest complaint about root beer is hearing Minnesotans pronounce the word “root” like it rhymes with “foot.” 🙄😁

I’m enjoying your GL-24 and patch photos, David! 🙂

Hungarian “tanker” prop today. Have a great one all.

😦

Nice picture Mitch ! Bad luck on the laptop 🙁

Wow...fall just showed up.
First tee on course.
