Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Nice stag there. I like the kind with long grooves.:thumbsup:

Custard inside and chocolate on top, I would normally call that an eclair. In the case of that particular pastry though, it is a Sufganiyah, a fried doughnut eaten at Hanukkah. Here's one filled with jelly:

Really no different than a jelly doughnut or eclair.

Thanks for the link. It's interesting how things that were so common become antiquated and forgotten in a generation or two. When my brothers were visiting last month, we got to discussing this phenomenon. We were speculating about what common objects or activities around us right now might suffer the same fate. Using cash? Driving cars? We Guardians must make sure that the Lambsfoot will live on!

On that page you linked to, there's a video of a singer singing "The Knocker Upper Man" In the intro, he mentions that whenever he sings it for American audiences, it always "...causes a smile. I don't know why, and I don't want to know why." :D

Just to show, I don't always pose my lambsfoot with food, here it is with the only thing better. A cat.

Brilliant post Miss Rashell !!!

Great pics Rachel :) Though I think I'd rather get woken up at 6.00am to go and work in t'mill than have to listen to much more of that folk singer! :D

Looks good Vince - though I'm not eating it! :p Is your AC starting to take on more colour or has it always been like that my friend? Really pleased with the vintage Sambar Wright's got hold of for these. I hope they manage to find some more

I'm off out for a hike this morning, and about to head out of the door :) Taking the sample with me ;) Have a great day folks

Smashing knife !!

Exceptional photos of the Ironwood maiden Jack. Once in a while, when kayaking, I will have the privilege of a Kingfisher escorting me downstream for a few hundred yards. That's the only time I ever see one and even then it is seldom. As for Llamas, not so much...:D I greatly enjoy your scenic waterways, stone walls, ancient edifices, arched bridges and misty leas. Keep trekking my friend.

I mainly paddled as a youth-worker, in my early 20's, with more polluted rivers, and a lot of noisy teenagers, so the Kingfishers probably kept their distance! It must be lovely to see them from the water - actually the first time I saw one I was on a boat, but a larger one, and it was just a flash of blue - not the same as when you're in a kayak, and almost part of the water :) The one I saw today was not so far away, just across the narrow river, and I had my camera in my pocket, but having zoomed in, I kind of lost the bird on my screen, and then someone approached with a dog, and the Kingfisher was gone. Thank you for your kind words my friend, I saw a lot of deer today, a few Red Kites, a Heron, a couple of pheasants, and a lot of sheep, but Llamas are not something I see everyday! :D That photo really shows off the grain in the rosewood :)

I saw a Kingfisher on my hike, don't see them too often here :)

(Filched pic)

Saw a whole load of other wildlife too, as well as a couple of llamas o_O
I've never seen a Kingfisher, it's striking. I suppose so are cardinals and blue-jays, but we take local birds for granted.
It's a great-looking sample, I just hope all their ironwood has this much character - it has far more than I expected

If mine has half that much character to the grain, I'll be happy. :)

Indeed they are :) I enjoy seeing all the wildlife we just don't get here :)

Fingers crossed ;)

I love my cardinals, but I'm worried about the ones lately with no combs/crests.
Saw a tufted titmouse the other day, not so common lately.

Well, both: dog digs the toy, toy digs the lambsfoot (subtle pun: heels = foot). And, yes, I remember the puppets!

Comely Union Jack you got there.
Thanks for elaborating on the dog/toy/lambsfoot triad, and for giving Union Jack his due! :)

Thanks, GT delectable is the way to go! :p
:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thank you GT for the kind words. I do wipe em down with mineral oil once and awhile and I only photograph on overcast days. Preferably rainy days. Natures light box. :D Union Jack looks buff and tan in his marine setting.

... and the lamb shall lie down among the "devil's snuff boxes".... :)View attachment 1044182
Thanks for your kind characterization of Union Jack, and your suggestions for helping him put his best lambsfoot forward, Dwight. :) Are those tiny puffballs, or seed pods from a plant of some kind?

Exceptional post GT :) I have to say that neither of the dessert wines I had over Christmas were much to my taste o_O When I was a boy, I'd go to watch football, and at half-time, a few old fellers would come onto the pitch, and almost casually, press stray pieces of turf down with their feet. I always thought being a Turfkickerdowner would be a good job, as they only did it for ten minutes a week ;) :D That might be an old pic, but it's a good one, and it's nice to see some sunshine my friend :)
...
Thanks, Jack, for the affirmation about post and knife. :) The job you mention sounds posh, but I wouldn't like having to write out "Turfkickerdowner" as occupation on every form requiring that info!:D

Thanks GT! Lots of grains in your lambsfoot picture today. You've got the grains on the handle of the knife, and the grains on wood supporting your knife, and the grains from the wooden planks of the pier; just to name a few.
Thanks for the observations, Joshua. :) I didn't realize that was such a grainy photo!

Thanks for the pastry lesson, Rachel. :) Your mention of eclairs got me thinking about other terms whose meaning I don't know: Bismarck, long john, ... That resulted in a Google search and I found this interesting site that mentions Sufganiyah, Bismarck, long john, Paczki, and a related JFK urban legend!

Interesting discussion of "antiquization". I think the time required for that to happen is shrinking because of the generally accelerated pace of change. :(
A cat is better than food?? There's a concept that I hope has a short half-life!

Is it okay to photograph a lambsfoot on goatskin?
Looks fantastic to me, Vince (but I'm not Orthodox)!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

That’s some mighty fine Ironwood there Jack! :) I’m carrying some fairly nice Sambar myself this morning! ;):D Hope everyone has a great day! :D

Ron, your knife definitely has some "fairly nice Sambar"! ;):thumbsup:

Thanks Jeff, certainly one of our most colourful species here :) I saw it along the banks of the River Skell: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Skell

W:eek:W, Jack, your pics of that ironwood lambsfoot in some better natural light are revealing how sensational its grain is!! The black looks like a River Skell flowing right along the length of the handle!:cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Dwight, when I first saw your post, only the top part of the photo was visible without scrolling, and I thought to myself, "Why is Dwight trying to infiltrate a spey blade into this thread?" After scrolling, I realized your lambfoot simply was partilaly covered with leaves in a way that suggested a spey to me.

Union Jack again, in one of its very rare dark moods:

Is it wrong to lust after that knife?
It gets better looking everytime you post a new photo!!:)
