A few years back I had a group that met monthly at my house called "The Cheap Bourbon Philosophical Society". We'd pick a philosophy-adjacent book to read (Plato's Symposium, Neal Stephenson's Anathem, etc) and then discuss it over bourbon. My rules for selecting the bourbon were simple: it had to taste really good, and cost less than $30 a bottle. There are a lot of bourbons that fit into that criteria! (Even today, eight or so years later, there's a lot of great sub-$30 bourbons out there. ) Knob Creek and Wild Turkey 101 are great examples. I'm fond of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond, too. My go-to, if I could only have one, would be Buffalo Trace.

I do find that my mind is more open to enlightenment when I’ve had a few drinks.

I recognised the photo mate, that day crops up in my daydreams regularly!![]()

Tool Man has a weekly Tuesday evening gathering, called 'The Swimming Club', which has been going since he was at school. Originally, they went swimming, but that didn't last long. He is also the only original member. They sit around outside Tool Man's shed, drinking cheap, strong lager, and talking ill-informed nonsenseI will suggest Plato Tyson

Amazing that they haven’t managed to solve all the world’s problems yet.

Nice pics, Jack.

Looks refreshing, Pete!

For some added good news, this barley crop is actually very clean with good yield potential. A rare sight this year!

Good news on the crops!
Looks great, Dwight!

Tried something different on the (cheater) smoker last night, a big pork loin from Costco. 9 lbs of meat for like $15, figured it was worth a try. I cut it in half so it was more manageable, smoked it for a couple hours then cranked the temp up. Turned out pretty good.

Thank you![]()
Good morning Guardians, what a fantastic way to end the GL-24 process, and of course we'll be admiring them here, and enjoying carrying them, for many years to comeSo hats off to Barrett, he's done us proud
Looking out of the window here, Autumn seems to have arrived, and it looks wet and miserable. I'll be able to get my cool weather duds out, and wear my flat cap, so it's not all bad
I bought a replacement tweed cap, in York, the other week, and they sold me the wrong size, which is annoying. So, I'm going to have to make the journey back, to get it exchanged
That won't be today though. Have a good day Guardians, and I hope your week gets off to a positive start

Thanks, Jack.

Before juggling the GAW drawing and dinner yesterday, we took the girls to an apple orchard. The weather was nice, we picked a few apples (because there’s nothing like paying twice the price to do all the work yourself
