Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

A few years back I had a group that met monthly at my house called "The Cheap Bourbon Philosophical Society". We'd pick a philosophy-adjacent book to read (Plato's Symposium, Neal Stephenson's Anathem, etc) and then discuss it over bourbon. My rules for selecting the bourbon were simple: it had to taste really good, and cost less than $30 a bottle. There are a lot of bourbons that fit into that criteria! (Even today, eight or so years later, there's a lot of great sub-$30 bourbons out there. ) Knob Creek and Wild Turkey 101 are great examples. I'm fond of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond, too. My go-to, if I could only have one, would be Buffalo Trace.

I do find that my mind is more open to enlightenment when I’ve had a few drinks. 😁

I recognised the photo mate, that day crops up in my daydreams regularly! 🤣

😁🤣

Tool Man has a weekly Tuesday evening gathering, called 'The Swimming Club', which has been going since he was at school. Originally, they went swimming, but that didn't last long. He is also the only original member. They sit around outside Tool Man's shed, drinking cheap, strong lager, and talking ill-informed nonsense  I will suggest Plato Tyson ;)

Amazing that they haven’t managed to solve all the world’s problems yet. 😉😁

Guardians, I am beat! :D I think I'm going to need an early night!

I've enjoyed carrying my K'roo Waboom today, they are beautifully-made knives :)

Tomorrow though, I think I'm going to slip my GL-24 in my pocket :) Good luck with Barrett's giveaway everyone :)

Nice pics, Jack.

Looks refreshing, Pete!

For some added good news, this barley crop is actually very clean with good yield potential. A rare sight this year! 👍🏼👍🏼

Good news on the crops!

Thanks Barrett. 7 hrs and 21 min on the pork butt.
It was a great party mate!

Looks great, Dwight! 😋 Pork butt is one of my favorite things to cook, partly because it’s hard to mess it up 🤣, but it also just happens to be one of my favorite BBQ meats.

Tried something different on the (cheater) smoker last night, a big pork loin from Costco. 9 lbs of meat for like $15, figured it was worth a try. I cut it in half so it was more manageable, smoked it for a couple hours then cranked the temp up. Turned out pretty good.

Thank you :)

Good morning Guardians, what a fantastic way to end the GL-24 process, and of course we'll be admiring them here, and enjoying carrying them, for many years to come :) So hats off to Barrett, he's done us proud  Looking out of the window here, Autumn seems to have arrived, and it looks wet and miserable. I'll be able to get my cool weather duds out, and wear my flat cap, so it's not all bad ;) I bought a replacement tweed cap, in York, the other week, and they sold me the wrong size, which is annoying. So, I'm going to have to make the journey back, to get it exchanged  That won't be today though. Have a good day Guardians, and I hope your week gets off to a positive start

Thanks, Jack. 🙂 And thanks again to everyone else for your kind words about the GAW, and your congratulations to the winner. It was a lot of fun!

Before juggling the GAW drawing and dinner yesterday, we took the girls to an apple orchard. The weather was nice, we picked a few apples (because there’s nothing like paying twice the price to do all the work yourself 🙄😁) and most importantly, there were cheese curds. 😋

LOL! :D Indeed  They are the sort of idiots who come out with things like, "Experts? What do experts know!" Previous members of the Swimming Club were Pol Pot, Josef Stalin, Ernst Rohm, and Atilla The Hun! The last being kicked out because he couldn't pronounce the word 'scone' correctly!

LOL! :D Sounds like a great afternoon :)

I have been in town most of the day, and when I first arrived, I walked close to St John's church, which is the city's oldest. There is a small garden behind the church, and as I was walking past the gatehouse, I spotted something unusual! Hoping it was not standing in the rain, I thought I'd have a look where the rest of the piano was. I got talking to a woman police officer, and she told me that there is some sort of piano-themed event taking place in the centre, with pianos in various places. However, I'm unsure if it's about music or alternative uses. Thousands of upright pianos were smashed up here in the late 1960's and early 70's, and there are still an awful lot, which are in poor condition, and badly out of tune. The ugly apartments behind the gatehouse, were built within the past year. Unfortunately, dozens of similar buildings are ruining the skylines of cities throughout the country :(

The GL-24 GAW was very exciting. I caught the drawing as it was happening. Thanks Barrett and congrats to Jeff.

Jack sorry to hear of the fading away of the Teddy get togethers. Boring Ray will have to wander hotel hallways elsewhere. The bright side I guess is some grandmothers feel safer. But maybe others are a little sad. 😔

Here’s the mark side of my “harlequin” lambsfoot. This one is almost exactly…4 inches. I like that size. And with the curved handle it fits well in my hand. But in actuality size really doesn’t matter with the stuff I cut. One day I will think about the ergonomics of the various sizes and angles etc. but not today. Happy Monday.

Boring Ray will have even fewer boring tales to tell, but from what I hear the cleaning staff at the Norbreck Castle Hotel will be glad to see the back of him  I'm sure SOMEBODY will miss them though! :D
