Very cool.My best friend will grow a bunch of starters from seeds and then share them around with everyone for their gardens. A few years ago I think we got three tomato plants from him. He contacted me a few weeks ago and asked how many we'd like this year, and I told him to give me all the tomatoes he can - put me last on the list and I'll take whatever's left over. I was kind of hoping we'd get ten or so plants - we have plans to build a bunch of good raised beds for next year, but we still have the kind of crappy raised bed from last year, and we could get about ten in there.
He showed up with sixty plants - tomatoes, peppers, squash, basil...
So Dawn and I spent all our spare time over the last couple of weeks (which wasn't much because we've been kind of buried beneath work and church commitments) clearing a spot and building the 2026 garden beds. I've moved four cubic yards (that's about three cubic meters for my metric friends, or two full-sized truckbeds-full) of redwood mulch. I have another two cubic yards sitting in my truck right now. This will finish up the bed nearest the camera in this pic and cover up the paper on the ground all around them. Then I need to put two to four yards of topsoil in the beds, then we can actually plant the plants which are currently living on my sun porch - hopefully all done next weekend. With them going in the ground so late I'm not if we'll actually get much produce, but hey, we're way ahead on our 2026 plan.

The GL-24 was around for the whole thing, and was helpful in digging a few redwood splinters out.

I like your Boetian helmet bead!Good morning Guardians, how's everyone doing? I hope you all had a great weekend, with a nice mix of lollygagging and adventuresI went out to an Eritrean restaurant yesterday, with some friends. There are half a dozen in Leeds now, all out of the city centre, but I haven't had any Ethiopian or Eritrean food for a decade. This one was recommended by one of the friends I went out with, and it proved to be a good choice. The food was good, and plentiful, I enjoyed the beer too, but the real star, for me, was the coffee, which was outstanding
I was hoping we'd be heading to the pub after, but that didn't happen, so I decided to opt in to a work meeting which had come up for 6pm. I decided to walk back from the restaurant, which is about 2 miles, but it was uphill most of the way
Work-wise, I think I have another light week, though I certainly have plenty of other things to do. There are 3 parcels sitting on my kitchen counter, which I need to finish off, and take to the post office, for example. They have been sat there for about 3 weeks!
It looks like a nice sunny day outside, and I am due a visit to Charlie's, so I think I'll do a bit of housework, and then head down there, and into town to take care of a couple of errands. Have a good day Guardians, and I hope your week is a good one too

Thanks Steve, apparently, while we were in the restaurant, there was a sudden downpour, and lots of people got soaked. I only heard about it today as it had dried out by the time we finished eatingSounds like you had a nice time out with your friends. Good choice to start the week![]()
What time were you up David? I've been waking up around 4am, but have managed to get a bit more sleep the past few days. I hope you sleep better tonight my friendMorning Guardians! Up early today. Don't even remember last time I been up this early. Hope y'all have a good one. Happy trails

Beautiful Barlow Steve
Thanks again, Jack!!Yes Charlie, I had a brother in law who worked there at the time, and it was a depressing period to be there (as it was in Sheffield generally). When they were forced to move to the Richards factory, the Rodgers cutlers emptied trays of old blades into the River Sheaf behind the factory*. That range of knives had a name, but I'm afraid I can't recall it. It was strange that they abbreviated the name on their tang stamp so much. Glenn did a lovely job of that one my friend![]()
And I thought I knew everyone out here!!!After leaving Scott, I went to the market to buy bread, and was introduced to the new lady who is going to be working on the bread stall. She is originally from Vancouver, and I was surprised when she said she didn't know Charlie!!![]()
I was up a 0630. Which isn't early for most people but it is for me. I usually up and down a lot at night but don't usually stay up till 1000 or 1100. Probably be napping when I get back to the house. Been to the pharmacy, grocery store and went by the Apt to get my mail. Hadn't been to to town in over a week. What time were you up David? I've been waking up around 4am, but have managed to get a bit more sleep the past few days. I hope you sleep better tonight my friend![]()
