Fantastic IXL Steve. The jigging!
Remember the Maypole festival I went to recently? I came across this old footage online, of how they did it in 1969
That's crazy Jack! Looked like a disaster waiting to happen.

Nice pic Jack !
Thanks pal :)
Afternoon Guardians! Thunderstorms last night but nothing serious. Clouding to rain again this afternoon and evening. Enjoying the nice Lambs today πŸ‘πŸ‘ Happy trails 🀠

Hope the weather brightens up for you soon David :) Nice shot of your Axe Lamb
Still getting smoke from Canada and our bad air warning goes through tomorrow. Hopefully it will clear out by then.

Bonus pic of the day πŸ‘

I hope so Steve, if things ever get really bad, I recommend these  Great to see more of that lovely IXL
Before my time but we had the " Rabbito ", he used to come around in a horse and cart selling rabbits by the pair.
Brilliant! :D
Ahoy, Guardians.

Raining for two days straight so far. The carnivorous pitcher plants, natives of Borneo, like it so I guess that's not nothing.

Here's Tilly playing in dangerous waters - that pitcher is almost big enough to swallow her! In this top-down view, you can see that this plant has already done rustled itself up some grub. Ants. Yum-bo! πŸ˜‹

Great shot! :D
Does it always have a coyote on top?
So many ways that climber could have hurt himself!
Not an entirely non-dangerous enterprise, the raising of it.
I like the guy pausing for a beer with his head under the propped-up tree.
And I like that they hoist it right next to the standing cross.

The silver fox is a weather vane. I don't know if the symbol has any association with the village, but it's always on top of the Maypole. They didn't even clear folks out of the way while they were raising it did they, not even the kids?! That is the old Market Cross Jer, I don't know if they still have a market, but if so, it'll probably be limited to a stall or two
Brian today..

went to the doctor's yesterday. while I was there she asked you want the flu shot? i laughed and asked what are you gong to give it? She laughed and said I'm a trained professional you know. I can't remember the last time a doctor administered an injection. So I'm feeling a bit poorly today, did get my walk in though very cold with wind chill factor, needed my hood.
Hope you're feeling better again soon Mitch, nice pic :)

May you shake off those germs soon Mitch. May old man winter be kind to you.

:thumbsup:Good morning, Guardians, as we in the U.S. observe Memorial Day. It's sad that today people are still having to make this sacrifice. Here are a couple of valued items that some of my friends and family find puzzling.

Great pic! The more I see of them, the more I think I’m really going to need to get one of those Cosimo Lunar Lambs.

Chip butty in the market πŸ˜‹

20250527_121008.jpg

Good stuff! Jack, you’ll be pleased to know that, since Yorkshire Day last year, Scout has asked when we’re going to have a chip butty again at least half a dozen times. 😁

Ominously the Spey was referred to as a castrator in Australian knife catalogues through most of our history. The fascinating history of these knives is what enticed me to get Cosimo to recreate a beautiful and classic Australian knife the β€œlamb tailer and castrator”.

It’s quite a fitting knife today and I hope you can forgive me for showing both blades Jack.
Today after fathering 4 beautiful sons my siring days have come to the end and I’m off to visit the farmer to be neutered.
So naturally, this is my lamb of choice today.

Hope you’re not too sore, Jack, and that you at least got some ice cream or something afterwards. πŸ˜‰

When I was at school, we had a pencil monitor, and later, an ink-well monitor. It was actually the same person, Dave Burgon, who always had his hand up first for a menial task with some responsibility :D

I wonder what he ended up doing for a living. I could probably venture a few guesses. 🀨😁

Pair of lambs hanging out with me today

Fantastic pair there! The jigging on those Lunar Lambs is just amazing. πŸ”₯

Enjoying a couple of drinks at The Snug (a cool English style pub in Midtown Sacramento - @Sacto you need to check this place out!). My wife snapped a pic of her cocktail and my bourbon, and I had her take a second with the GL-24. We got pizza by the slice from Uncle Vito's next door. Good times.

Looks like a cool place, Tyson. Great pic!

I like those HHBs. I am just packing up to head north to try keep one of those fires from burning down my cabin. My original Charlie lamb, now well patinated, will be in my pocket.

Hope the fires stay well away from your cabin, Dan, and that you’re able to relax a bit while you’re up there. Stay safe!

Yeah, as I recall Wright's were fairly straightforward to deal with too! :D

I imagine every man there had a pocket knife on him, and most of them would have been Lambsfoot knives

Interesting method with all the ladders.

Yesterday was Eleanor’s last day of school and Scout’s last day of preschool. Eleanor’s school (which will be both girls’ school next year) was having a fundraiser at a local brewery in the evening, so we headed over there for a bit. It’s was crowded and a bit rambunctious with all the kids running around, but we were able to have a few beers, the girls got some ice cream, and we had a nice time. I had my Cosimo lamb with me.

At ease...

Great shot of a sweet πŸ‘

Thanks Jack, I did wear a mask yesterday morning. It was bad enough that my eyes were burning a bit.

It sounds, from this interesting account, as if climbing the Maypole was originally part of erecting the new pole, rather than a separate ceremony

Great read , thanks Jack !

That is heartwarming news Barrett πŸ˜„ Not long until Yorkshire Day! πŸ˜‹πŸ‘

I can just picture one of the nurses saying, "You're supposed to EAT the ice cream Jack!!" πŸ˜±πŸ˜‚
I wonder what he ended up doing for a living. I could probably venture a few guesses. 🀨😁
I can happily report that he achieved his ambition 😊 While the rest of us wanted to be astronauts, football players, or brewery owners (OK, that was just me), Steven Burgin wanted to be a school caretaker (janitor). By secondary school, while the rest of us were chasing girls or smoking behind the cricket pavilion, he was hanging out with a small group of middle-aged caretakers, and he eventually joined them professionally 😁
Interesting method with all the ladders.
I thought so too, probably a lost art 😁

What a great idea! A couple of year's back, the school Matt's kids go to had a brewery fundraiser. One of the dads was a brewer at a small local brewery, and the beer he made for the event was incredible. We were hoping it was going to be an annual event, but sadly, the brewery closed down not long after 😐 Great pics Barrett πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘

Glad you're having a good one David, nice choice πŸ‘
Nice to see those again Charlie πŸ™‚ I was going to post a pic of the second lot (around 20, made after Wright's re-stocked on Ironwood), but my wifi is running like molasses through a sock! I can barely connect on my phone! πŸ˜–

It's been like a vacation this week! πŸ˜†
