Thanks Jack
It was a good coffee, Ahmed always asked me if it was a good coffee and always seemed genuinely interested and did today 👍
A revamp? That could be double edged, yep petition away it's a good name, hope they keep the charm you enjoy 🫰
Thanks mate, Hisham (Moroccan/Sicilian) is the same, every cup is superb 😊 Yes, that's true. At least the food prices can't get any HIGHER, because they're far too high as it is, and Hisham's main concern is that a large, well-known, budget British bakery chain is due to open.a branch just down the road. Currently, he has no real competition. Folks come for the coffee, but his food sales have declined. This isn't surprising, because the food is mediocre, slow to arrive, and expensive for what it is. He really needs to hire someone who can cook, start selling better food, and drop his prices 🙄
Tea and crumpets with Vegemite 😳😎
This is what we call pikelets here.

My brothers loved them. I'd rather crumpets or toast
I'm glad you have the word Mitch, I think those would be called a Scottish Pancake here, though I've not had those since I was a little boy. In Sheffield, pikelet is used as a friendly insult for being daft (eg 'Stop being a pikelet!' Or 'The lad is no pikelet!'). You probably don't hear it much anymore sadly 😒

Congratulations to you and the family Bob! 😊😊😊 That cane is gorgeous, you are very generous 😊👍

Interesting, Jack! I’ve never heard of a pikelet. What is the difference between the two?
In Britain, the 2 things were just different words for the same thing Dave. In fact, at least, as late as the 1980's, at least half the country said 'pikelet' rather than 'crumpet'. You'd have been laughed at if you said 'crumpet' in much of the north of England, as having airs and graces, or pretensions. But in the late 1960's, and throughout the 70's and 80's, large supermarkets started to replace the small shops, such as the butcher, baker, and greengrocer, every other street had. In the bakers, dad worked in the back, usually at night, baking loaves of bread, pikelets, oatcakes, pies, pastries, buns, and cakes, and his missus worked behind the counter selling them. But the supermarkets required large industrial bakeries, so they sprouted up - producing bread so bad it had not hitherto been seen - and along with their awful white, sliced, long-life loaves, they baked pikelets and crumpets. These changes happened nationally, and the supermarkets were, usually national chains, so they packaged their wares with 'crumpets' written on one side of the box, and 'pikelets' on the other. That went on as late as the mid 1990's, while the remaining small bakeries sold what they had always sold. However, because London, the southern counties, and the BBC, said 'crumpet', eventually the word 'pikelet' was taken off the boxes, and the small bakeries all went out of business, as did the small grocers, butchers, fish-mongers, and greengrocers, in the face of the competition from supermarkets. So the word 'pikelet' began to slip out of use, and today, idiots, who don't know any better, will tell you crumpets and pikelets were actually completely different things, that pikelets were square, rather than round, or thinner, or flatter, or whatever. But in fact, they were exactly the same thing, and it's an example of a once familiar English word being subsumed by linguistic snobbery.
Congrats Bob! 🥳 I'm digging your really fancy looking cane. :)

Good morning Guardians!

Handsome shot Pat

While I was eating my lunchtime falafel, I was lucky enough to be listening to an opera singer, who was busking in the city centre. When I'd finished eating, I thought I'd give her a couple of quid, and was surprised how young she was. Here she is performing in Chester.

Chicken and mushroom pie for tea :)

Afternoon all
It's a small world, different cafe but thr barista was 1 of my favourites that used to work at the old cafe, left ages ago. Always made a great coffee still does😎

Good looking coffee !

Good morning Guardians, I've just had my morning tea, Yorkshire of course, and some buttered pikelets, which is what crumpets were called here until Big Business and the march of Southern Imperialism trampled them underfoot 🧐 The sun is struggling to come out, but it could go either way, we've had plenty of showers this week, some of them heavy, and some more than showers  Hopefully, it'll satisfy the whingers for a bit! :D My workload has been almost non-existent, which suits me fine, so when I've had a shave, I'll be walking down to Charlie's I reckon, then probably head into town, maybe get a haircut, or just do some lollygaggin' ;) Have a great day Guardians :) I'm hanging onto the GL-24

Yeah, I've got almost nothing at all on this week! 😊 In fact, so far, the only work-related thing I have on, is a meeting tomorrow evening, and that's in a pub! :D 🍻 👍
That looks like a tasty dinner 👍
Thank you my friend, I had a hankering for some new potatoes :) I saw the nurse at my medical practice this afternoon, and my BP is good, and my weight is still going down
Happy humpday Guardians !

Great shot Steve :)
Howdy Guardians! Reckon that gal sure has a beautiful voice Jack 👍 Overcast and a little cooler today. Chance of storms after while. Nothing much going on around here. Happy trails 🤠

Yeah, I thought so too David, her rendition of Amazing Grace was very powerful :) I hope those storms aren't anything to worry about my friend :) It's raining here this evening, so I don't reckon anyone is going to be dying of thirst in the next day or two  That's some nice bocote :) I wonder if Mr May does his own bolsters, or if Wright's make them, because they're very much in their style. Trevor Ablett's were very different

That's great Jack ! I was a bit worried that my BP was getting on the elevated side. I've been taking it a few times a day for a couple of weeks now and I'm happy to say it's perfectly normal. My reading this morning was 117 over 72.

Great shot Steve :)

Thanks pal !
