Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

unclekurty unclekurty mbkr mbkr Here’s a new kid you should know about. Not the guitarist that Kottke is (who is?!) but a brilliant singer songwriter with a unique voice
His later albums are fantastic too. He has a song on this album called Life is Beautiful where he lists ā€œyour grandfather's knifeā€ as one of life’s greatest treasures along with a bunch of other sweet items defining: ā€œThis is where I’m from.ā€
Thanks for the recommendation Dave. I like tenor guitar. I think of Richie Stearns of the Horseflies who uses it well playing Old Time Music but he’s most inspiring to me as a clawhammer banjo player. Adam Hurt and Dirk Powell are also inspiring. The only tune I can think of at the moment that they all play is ā€œBarlow Knifeā€. It would have been ā€œLambsfoot Knifeā€ but they were probably few and far between in Appalachia way back when.

Jack thanks for another amusing Market Report. Here’s the pile side of my lamb by Bobby Toole.

And here’s a link to ā€œTennesseeā€ by my old friend Ed Gerhard. He showed it to me probably 30 years ago now. I love this song and play it always. Another fingerstyle great. And thanks Guardians for indulging me in sharing a bit of my passion for fingerstyle guitar and clawhammer banjo.

Thanks for this šŸ‘
I had never heard of WTT or a 4 string tenor guitar 😲
On first pass his vocals and phrasing invoked thoughts of John Prine. That's a compliment btw :)

Thanks Jack,
Sounds like you had a nice day.
Thanks mate, I had a nap in the afternoon, called in at the community centre down the road, where they were unveiling a new mural of a local Gold Medal athlete, went for a drive with Wolfie, and spent some time talking to one of my neighbours. I even did a bit of work ;) So, not a bad day :)

Looking good Dave :)

The Lowe's Employee Portal is up again, so I don't have to go and attempt to clock in, in order to verify that I'm not scheduled. (Good thing I'm not a worrier.)
I'm scheduled for eight hours on August 31st! First I thought, that's a good day to request the time off. Then I thought, that's no way to show the boss how game and plucky I am. Then I thought, the 31st is a Sunday- she knows I'll ask for the time off. Then it turns out that the 31st is in a blackout period, meaning no time off for anyone (it must be a holiday weekend).
I'll be sure to wear my support socks.
Maybe I'll brush up on my spirituals and sing Swing Low Sweet Chariot and songs of that ilk all day. If I have to suffer, I like to see others suffering.
[It's Labor Day Weekend! I'll sing the Internationale, too.]
I'm liking your playlist Jer ;) How about a rendition of Tennessee Ernie Ford's classic ;)

Thank you Jack.

Glad you are having a relaxing day. JSDistin did a wonderful job on scales.
A South African cutler told me giraffe bones are to be found lying everywhere, but the government is making it hard for him to ship knives with their bones as scales.ā˜¹ļø
Many thanks my friend, like just about everybody I've spoken to today, I had a rotten night's sleep last night, so I'm glad I wasn't busy :D Yes, I read here, years ago, that there are armfuls of giraffe bones scattered along the sides of Africa's tarmac roads. Giraffe's hooves skate on the tarmac, so lions and hyenas sit there waiting for an easy meal
Good morning Guardians !

I hope everyone is having a good day šŸ‘

Maybe he was thinking of a Hartshead Barlow knife Kurt! :D ;) Nice to see the other side of that beauty :) :thumbsup

Forgot the pic
It's a great shot too

Elegant blade !

Good morning Guardians, I am just having my tea and toast, and then I'll be off down to the market. So far, it's fine today, but cloudy, and a little cooler. I'm varrying this re-built and re-covered Lambsfoot gifted to me by old forum member @ReaperAl. I have 3 knives done by @jsdistin , and he did a great job. The covers on this one are giraffe bone. Have a great day Guardians

Looking good buddy !

Lovely OMJ !

Thanks a lot Mitch

Lovely stag Bob :)

Very interesting Mitch

Hope you enjoyed it mate šŸ˜‹šŸ‘

I hope everyone is having a good day :) It was still quite early when I got to the market, but Tool Man was already stuffing himself with a steak slice. I handed over the tribute pakoras, which went down well with him and Boring Ray. It was very quiet generally, but Harry Hotballs passed by, though he said he has not been feeling well. Slimline Scott also visited, still wearing the clothes he was wearing when he was 100 pounds heavier  That was it though, and while I went over to have a chat with Nobber Al, I forgot to visit Golden Gordon's stall. I decided to head back home about 12.30pm, but called in for a coffee at Charlie's on the way, and caught up with everyone

The fireweed is coming in thick and the little aspens are already 3 feet tall in places, but, still lots of black.

Glad you’ve got some green coming in, Dan. Still incredible that you were able to save your cabin with as little damage as it had.

Nevermind, my membership had eplapsed.

Hate when that happens. You don’t seem to get any warning or notice ahead of time, either. I always realize it when I start seeing ads in between posts. šŸ™„

Yeah, I have had quite a bit of work on, but encountered an extra annoyance  Twenty years ago, when I first knew Tool Man, his market stall was next to a guy called Carlton, who was a bit of a bully, and known for not repaying his debts, and generally being a PITA. I immediately sussed out he was a total fraud, and moved him on, but I didn't give him too hard a ride, and have always been pleasant when I've seen him. Unfortunately, because of the sort of guy he is, he pissed off all the other traders, and ended up having to go and work in a fish and chip shop (though I'm pretty sure he's claiming Unemployment Benefit too). A few months back, a flat 2 doors from me became empty, and eventually a new tenant turned up - Carlton. He's not quite moved in yet, because, at 45, he's still living with his mother, but I've seen him a couple of times. Now, apart from his other faults, this guy is really slimey around women, and he's taken a shine to my next door neighbour. So, this morning I go out, and Moninder is in the garden, and apologises to me about my tree. I look at my sycamore, and am astonished to see that 2 large solar-powered lights, and all the wiring, have been fixed, with screws, to my beloved tree. It turns out Carlton had offered to put them up for her, (and this is a guy who usually does NOTHING for ANYBODY). but the guy is so stupid, he's put them in MY garden. Moninder says she'll take them down, but I tell her I'll just ring Carlton, and get him to do it. I ring the guy, around 11am, and it sounds like he's still in bed, and he's immediately aggressive with me. Then he tells me he'll be "having words" with me the next time he sees me! I'm on my way to town now, but when I get back, an hour later, I see him outside his house, and shout over to ask if he wants to have these 'words' now. This guy is a lot younger than me, seems reasonably fit, and always boasting/bullshitting about his martial arts training, but when he says ok, I'm straight round. When I get to his gate though, the guy is filming me on his phone, and accusing me of bullying him! So I call him a coward, and go home. Since then though, I've had numerous phone calls from neighbours who are anxious for a piece of him, and while I've said no, he's no longer welcome in the area, idiot! šŸ¤”

What a pain in the a**. šŸ™„ Hopefully he’s not long for the neighborhood, though I’m guessing his mother probably doesn’t want him back.

It's been a hot one here, and I've been on my feet most of the day, schlepping round with those posters. I did call in for a nice thali at lunchtime though, and picked up some of the best samosas in Yorkshire, and some pakora, for the market tomorrow ;) I hope everyone is having a good day

That album art caught my eye as I was scrolling through the thread, with its nod to Shel Silverstein (The Giving Tree was a regular in our rotation of bedtime books when my oldest was a bit younger). Gave WTT a listen, and he’s right up my alley. Appreciate the recommendation.

Cooler, overcast day here, with a little bit of rain. I took the girls to swim lessons earlier this evening. There was hardly anyone enjoying the outdoor pool, but for me it was the ideal weather for sitting out there in a lounge chair and relaxing for a bit (the lack of other people made it even better). 😁

I haven’t really been able to kick the Lunar Lamb out of my pocket this week.
