Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Great photos and knives all!
FINALLY! Recieved my first lambsfoot this morning. Absolutely a beauty, with great chatoyancy, but..... it has a scratch.
So now the debate whether to live with it, or send it back:oops:

Poor photo, but this is it:

 Is it a scratch, or a feature within the horn? If it's a scratch, and you decide against returning it, it should polish out. If it's a feature in the horn, it's there to stay though. What's the pile side like Dennis?

It's definitely a scratch, I can feel it with my fingernail.
How would you recommend buffing it out, I've never messed with horn before. White rouge on a buffer?

It took 6 days to get it in, so not too long.

Here's the pile side comparison. I didn't notice the small blemish around the bottom pin on the pile side till I took the photo, but I could live with that, since it is horn...

I won't post pictures, but the horn handled peach pruner that Jack gifted me have a few marks that look like that. I can't feel them on the surface, and I assumed they were what would be called "inclusions" or "feathering" in a diamond. Basically, a natural imperfection in the material. Perhaps these lines are more visible in light translucent horn, compared to the dark, opaque stuff. If you move it around in the light, does it look like it runs deeper below the surface than a scratch that can be buffed out? Personally, I don't mind it, and think it gives the handle character, but as I said, they don't reach the surface, so I assume they are more stable. I don't know if it could cause cracking if the horn were to swell and shrink. (as horn is sometimes known to do with drastic changes in humidity)

It's definitely not an inclusion, I won't of thought twice about it if it was. It's more of a mechanical cut of sorts. I will go ahead and send photos to the distributor and see where it goes. I may still try the buffing thing, after their input. I just don't want it to flake off, otherwise I wouldn't worry too much.

Thanks for your input, Rachel!

I'm hoping this photo, to some extent, shows the multiple layering of horn. I have had a couple of knives, where a tiny sliver has become missing as the covers are ground to shape and polish. That didn't bother me at all, in fact I quite liked the character it gave the knife. I did wonder if that was the case here, but Dennis is in the best place to know. Please keep us posted about this

Guardians, hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

You too Taylor

Started checking this post more often. I foresee a Ettrick or Lambsfoot in my future.

Get both and post the lambsfoot here.

Maybe a little late for this , but I just received it today . A website of macsween.co.uk

Thanks for the link Harry! :D Always a treat to see that lovely TEW Lambsfoot

My plans for a hike went awry when my mate rang me to say that he and his missus are full of cold (also that she has hurt her back, so he's having to look after their young 'uns) :( To cap it, the weather forecasters got it wrong yet again, and instead of the promised heavy rain and 50 MPH winds, it's actually a bright, sunny day, so far at least  Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend, and have a great Sunday Guardians

Thanks, Jack. That is a handsome knife as well.

I will have to try again with another, say maybe.....one like this!:D

Got one in horn, so I'm hopeful it will be a good one....probably starting something BAD!:D
It won't be bad if you "pace yourself", Dennis! ;)
Is your avatar relatively new? Who IS that young cowboy?

Congrats on all the fine cutlery and edible goodies you got from Rob, Dave!!:cool::cool::thumbsup:
And plaudits to Rob for his thoughtfulness and generosity! :):thumbsup::cool:

I carry two lambsfoots because

when the great sea of awareness comes to take me back, I can trade my extra lambsfoot to it in exchange for my soul.

"I'm alone in a hostile universe".

Maybe not the right book, but you can't expect accurate cites in a hostile universe.
"A warrior is impeccable if he trusts his personal power; whether it is small or enormous" ** and of course,
if he carries a lambs foot folder (or 2)! :D

** a Don Juan quote, in case anyone is wondering.
Who knew that the humble lambsfoot would get me to contemplate the meaning of life!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:;)

Look what just landed... ;)

Congrats, John, that commemorative model must be one of the rarest of lambsfoots!!:cool::thumbsup:

After waiting for what seemed like ten weeks, instead of ten days, my first Lambsfoot arrived in today's mail! I have this first impression to give and it is that this really feels good in hand, Rosewood is nicely polished and the metal is shiny...a good looking knife. The blade is not well centered but it's a working knife so not a big deal.

I have been in touch with Jack and am on the list for the 2019 Guardian knife, but, this makes it my official application for membership in the Guardians of the Lambsfoot. You are a great group! Preston

Congrats and welcome, Preston! :) That's a fine-looking specimen; I think my rosewood model is still my favorite among five lambsfoot models I currently have.

Pile side of the AC I'm toting today.

Reminds me of a Monkees hit, "Another Pleasant Valley Sunday"!:cool::thumbsup:

A good Friday to all of you Guardians! :) The 2018 Ebony Guardians Lambsfoot is in the pocket today! :D

I've been rushing around all day, and only just got back home. Like Ron I'm carrying my ebony '18 for Black Friday

dLBdhJX.jpg
Ron and Jack, your ebony Guardians knives are especially enjoyable!:cool::thumbsup:

Such striking lighting you arranged for that particular knife, Dylan!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Eye candy, Randy! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Jer, I'm really enjoying your "lambsfoot on a uke fretboard" series; great photos!:cool::cool:

AC pure and natural!!! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Misty magic, Dwight! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Kind of dark and cloudy today. Here's a recent pic when the sun was shining:

Had to put this in my pocket today. Don't know if I have a knife that is more comfortable to use. What an ergonomic handle. And the Sambar stag is amazing. Have a great day, Guardians!
Such buttery color your stag is developing, Vince!! (Maybe I should send you mine to handle for a while so your one-in-a-million skin oils can work their magic on my Cracker Jack! :D)

Great photos and knives all!

Congrats, and welcome to the Guardians, Dennis!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: I'm sure you realize that new recruits like you and Preston will get assigned to the least desirable lambsdippy dead-of-night duties to start with.:D

Man, I don't know what to advise, Dennis. That blond horn with the dark butt on both sides is incredibly attractive to me; I'd be reluctant to give that up for who-knows-what on a replacement knife. I think I'd be able to live with the nick on the mark side, or maybe try filling it with super glue or try buffing it out.

i’ve been consumed(helps to be retired) looking for another Lamb Foot. I am waiting for this to arrive next week.

Please forgive the showing of the penblade.

Congrats!:thumbsup: I look forward to hearing your reactions to the knife. I'm intrigued by the idea of a 2-blade barlow.

Thanks GT, good to see both you and your Man Jack here
Thanks, Jack. I try to keep up with my reading, but I'm not a very articulate writer, so don't always find as much time to post as I'd like.

Man Jack huh? I've been lovin' the sway back but this one has great eye appeal. I like the
double bolsters and the no nonsense grip - real nice stag too. I've missed it if there have been
others like this one in these 588 pages but I'm noticin' today  :D

Ray
Ray, I think if you search this thread for "senator", you'd find other examples (maybe 113 "hits); that's the name Wright gives to the pattern. I've named all my lambsfoot knives, and the reason I call that one Man Jack is that I won it in a GAW sponsored by a BF member from Manchester England.

does playing pool count GT? :p
You're a pool hustler, too, Dave??:thumbsup::p I shoulda known!

5K Qs 5K Qs Thank you GT. That Man Jack is quite good looking.
Thanks! :)

Sorry to hear about your hiking plans falling through, Jack. :( Fine, atmospheric photo of your ironwood prototype!:thumbsup::cool:

I love this knife it takes an incredible edge, feels great in hand and an excellent slicer.

Glad to hear you're so happy with your Ashley's Choice stag lambsfoot, Randy. That opinion seems almost unanimous!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Thanks for all your comments, Gary!
My wife would tend to agree with you, but everybody needs a hobby and a goal!:D
The young cowboy was just one I found, nobody I know. But I did grow up on horses, and many a hunting and fishing trips on horseback.
Congrats, and welcome to the Guardians, Dennis!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool: I'm sure you realize that new recruits like you and Preston will get assigned to the least desirable lambsdippy dead-of-night duties to start with.:D
Gotta start somewhere!:p I can run a mean buffer, some of that fine army training! thanks for the welcome!

Yeah, I think I'm going to hold on to it, being an anniversary present. It is a great knife, other than that flaw.
