Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Wow Steve, stunning shot  :)

Thanks pal !
'Waterproof membranes' used to last me about 3 months when I was doing a lot of hiking Gary, they're a bit of a con trick really, and I'd often rather not have them at all. Here's an old article of mine, looking at them. My conclusion was actually edited to appease the advertisers :rolleyes; It's an old piece, but I don't think much has changed

Good article, my Merrell Gore-Tex hiking shoes leak like crazy but they are comfortable.

Good morning Guardians, I hope everyone's week is going well, so far. I have some work to do, but I'm meeting Wolfie, early evening, to go see a movie. I hope the rain has stopped by then ;) Have a great day everyone

Appreciate that Jack, trying to keep them interesting

You gents have a great day.
You too mate :)
Stellar research and writing!

To return briefly to the subject of death knells, I am not going to order a 12.6" gong from the river, in the remote hope that it will be struck in my honor on my All Saints Sunday by weeping dancing girls.
Even though it's under twenty bucks.
Thanks pal, nice to see the Beast :) That sounds tempting! :D
Have a good one Bob :)
Thanks pal !

Thank you Steve, it was followed by 2 pages of individual boot reviews :) I like Merrell shoes and boots, though I find the sizes vary more on the ones sold here than they did in the past. I try to buy them without the Gore-Tex lining. Long ago, Merrell were experimenting with all sorts of interlinings, but Gore-Tex has become the 'Biro' of waterproofs

I hope everyone is having a good day :) I got some work done, and then went into town to get some shopping, had a Vietnamese noodle dish for lunch, and then went for a coffee in the bookshop, where I bumped into my neighbours, the Thunberg's! I'm back home for an hour or so, and then I'll be going out again to meet Wolfie. Have a great evening Guardians

Sounds like a full day Jack, with a twisted assist.👍🏻

Did my walk and grabbed my pickle lambsfoot to assist myself in lollygagging. The weather was nice this morning and the sun is shining at the moment but some rain is in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow morning. I hope everybody is having a good day also. I am enjoying the lambsfoot pictures as always.

Hi 👋

It's not y'all --- I just haven't been taking many knife pics. Inspiration is a fickle thing and I've yet to cultivate the discipline necessary to continue producing when the soil turns infertile.

But I took this one so here it is:

Hope everybody and their attendant lambs are doing both fine and dandy - and at the same time even!

It may be just me, but i don't think their quality is as good as it used to be.

Love those covers.

I agree mate  The colours are better though, the first pair they sent me for test were grey, pink, and teal! 🤮😂

Thanks for the interesting and informative article, Jack!:cool::cool::thumbsup:
I really knew nothing about waterproof membranes, and I'd heard of Gore-Tex, of course, but didn't realize that it was also a membrane technology. The boots I showed in my recent photo were very inexpensive (under $40 for sure) hikers from Tractor Supply, so I'm sure the membrane alleged to be in them was very low-tech; they were the first "fabric uppers" boots I'd ever had. Not surprisingly, they're quite worn by now, since I've been walking about 50 miles per week over the past 5+ years, even though those boots get worn mostly during December-March.

Last Wednesday, my wife and I went to a town about 10 miles north of us that used to be the home of the Wolverine (and Hush Puppy) shoe factory. Now production has moved to other locations, and Wolverine has become Wolverine Worldwide and assimilated several other brands including Merrell, Bates, Caterpillar, and others. The original factory is now the Rockford Footwear Outlet that sells clearance versions of Wolverine Worldwide brands in one big dimly-lit room, and sells current models in a brighter, more appealing showroom. I had a 50% discount coupon for non clearance items. I ended up buying a pair of leather 6" Caterpillar work boots that are supposed to be waterproof. I don't know if there's a membrane, or if the leather has been treated, but I plan to apply my own waterproofing after I get them broken in. When I used to have leather boots as my main winter boots (and barn/work boots on my parents' dairy farm), we waterproofed our boots with "mutton tallow". I thought it worked very well, but the odor was a bit strong for a few days!
I'm planning to use Sno-Seal on these, unless I learn of better products for waterproofing leather boots.

Here's another old pic of LamBarJack with some nachos he helped prepare; they're ready to go in the microwave:

Be careful with sno-seal. It works well and I used to swear by it. But I learned the hard way that it can interact with the glue used to cement soles on the boots, causing delamination. I used it on some vasque boots and it didn’t take long for the soles to peel off. They repaired them under warranty but the repaired boots had the same problem so I sent them back in. The first thing they asked was what waterproofing I used. When I told them that I used sno-seal they told me that this voided the warranty. That didn’t sit well with me because none of the literature that came with the boots said anything about not using sno-seal, and neither did their website. Since then I have steadfastly refused to purchase any vasque products. I have gone through many pairs of boots since then so they have missed out on a lot of business.

Nice shot David :)

Very interesting Gary, I hope your feet stay dry :) I bet those nachos were tasty! 😋

That's a valuable tip my friend, sorry you had to find out the hard way :(
