Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Looks like some nice weather there 👍

Good morning Guardians, despite being exhausted, I was working late again last night, though it's come to the point where I've had enough! I did manage to sneak in* a bottle of wine later. The Greek olives I bought from a new stall in the market, but they are the bitterest olives I've ever tasted! I hope everyone's week got off to a good start, I'm hoping to take it a little easier today, but I have a few dull things to take care of in town  Have a great day Guardians, I'm sticking with L'Ariete ;)

Great shots of L'Ariete 😍👍

Good morning, Guardians! Purple Burl 🐑 with my espresso this morning ☕️. Glad to be back home. NYC was a productive work trip. It’s a fun time to visit but the big city is already getting crowded for the holidays.

I forgot to post pics along the way so here are a few highlights. IMG_2222.jpegIMG_2234.jpegIMG_2172.jpegIMG_2134.jpegIMG_2119.jpegIMG_2250.jpegIMG_2092.jpegIMG_2053.jpegIMG_2055.jpeg

Good morning Guardians !

Like Barrett I was able to catch some Northern lights on my deck last night.

Great capture of those colors Steve. Sweet spalted covers.👍🏻

Glad you had a positive trip Dave.

Even on a good day, the city is a crazy place. I have never been on the Brooklyn bridge, but sailed under it many times.

Yeah, I’ve always avoided hiking boots with synthetic (or partially synthetic) uppers, though I’m sure they have their advantages. Mostly I just never liked the look as much as a full-leather boot. I always end up wearing out the sole on mine (usually to the point where it becomes detached from the boot) long before the leather gets anywhere close to worn out.
They're aimed at people who've never worn boots, have soft feet, and don't know how to look after good footwear Barrett, even the Army here has had to make softer boots  I am heavy on soles, and there aren't many good cobblers around here any more. Of course that wasn't so much of a problem when I received deliveries of free boots every week, the problem was finding people with my size feet to give them away to, I had the best shod postman in Yorkshire! :D
That makes sense, and I’m sure Big Jim of all people didn’t have a phone. 😁 I think we could use a bit more of that now. Whenever we have family visit from out of state, Eleanor (who is definitely a little planner) always wants to know exactly what time they’ll be arriving, and will ask for updates throughout the day. I told her when I was a kid and my grandparents would visit, the best information you’d get was the day they were coming. What time they’d arrive would just be a surprise.
LOL! :D I remember people who visited India in the 60's, telling me that in rural areas, it wasn't what TIME the bus came, but which DAY! :D You just had to sit there and wait
Oh no! I hope you still give Wolfie a hard time about it. 😁
Not in a while, but thanks for the reminder mate! :D In fact, I think his kids are old enough to hear the story! 😂
I was relieved, particularly because it was that knife, which would really be a bummer to lose.
For sure :) I actually did a 'Barrett' today, I was in town, and went to get L'Ariete out, there were a few seconds of concern, before I remembered I'd been wearing something different last night! I've been walking funny all day! 😳😁👍
Definitely the way to go (assuming you can find full-leather boots anymore!). My hiking boots serve more as general winter boots than actual hiking boots now.
If you ever visit again Barrett, I'll see if I have a pair of mountain boots in your size! :D I actually have 3 pairs of brand-new Everest-grade double plastic/insulated boots that were priced at several hundred Pounds 30 years ago! 😖😂
They’re definitely interesting contraptions. I remember seeing the fortune-telling machines (like the one in the movie Big) when I was a kid, but they didn’t have too many moving parts.
Brilliant! :D There are quite a few in the museums in York, some are quite sinister

We had some pretty cool views of the northern lights tonight. There have been a few times in the last couple years where they’ve been visible here, but this is the first time you could really see them with the naked eye. (Of course, they don’t look nearly as vibrant in person as they do in photos, but it was still pretty cool to see.)

Absolutely amazing! They were visible here last year. Matt, who lives half a mile south from me, saw them, as did a lot of folks. I missed them, like I do a lot of things  I must be about the only person of my age, in the Western World, who didn't get to see the Moon landings live! 😖 There were kids in the Kalahari Desert who saw it, but my dad thought I should be in bed on a school night! o_O
Some Lambsfoot content. It’s been a while since I’ve carried any of these ebony beauties. I should probably remedy that.

All this boots talk reminds me of Jack's yuppie who rudely rejected and corrected Jack's advice on fabric boots, and was pleasant to imagine up to his neck in mud despite his superior boots.
That guy may have been carefully selecting the best boots for a garden party or drinks on the patio, like Jeremy Clarkson's "Those of you who need a Range Rover because you live on a lane that sometimes has a leaf on it".
I laughed when I read that Jer, I was a bit cantankerous, even as a young feller! :D LOL! :D I remember, I hesitantly told him the leather boots were fractionally lighter, and he angrily replied, "Not when they're soaking wet there won't be!" It was true that I did think of that for many years afterwards 🤣

Another intro to a series of boot reviews ;)

I've never been on it, or under it, but I do know it is made from Sheffield steel! :D

Nice shot of OMJ !

Thanks buddy, I've been lucky to see them several times. The most intense was up on the North shore of Lake Superior when they were multi colored and absolutely dancing across the sky.

LOL! :D Incredible  After about a decade of not wearing denims, I recently bought a pair of (admittedly somewhat different) jeans, and have them on now :D Lovely Lamb Bob

So that's why it is still standing.😃
More surprising is that Sheffield's Brooklyn Works is still standing (though the darn yuppies have it now)! :D

Thanks Jack.

I always enjoy seeing the old industrial sites.

I live in jeans, need to be fancy, I will throw a sports coat on and wear socks.😄

Great Post Jack!
Looking forward to the weekend, changing my EDC, really looking forward to carrying my Hartshead.
Sorry for the absence - work and work!!

Have a great day folks!

Thanks Jack.

From 5 to 17 (when I got my first leather jacket), I was strictly double denims Bob! 😄👍

Thanks Duncan, great to see you here brother, I can empathise with the work situation 🫣 It's 6pm, and I'm just waiting for a work call 🙄

Both Matt and his missus were originally born in the obscure Northern English county of Lancashire, which is a thin strip of undeveloped land between Yorkshire and the Irish Sea. Strangely, they are not embarrassed about this, which always surprises me.

Even less people have heard of Lancashire Day than have heard of Lancashire itself. In fact, neither Matt nor Ruth had ever heard of it, until I raised the subject as a bit of a joke. It is coming up at the end of the month, so I have bought them a few Lancashire gifts by way of commiseration.

I'm not sure what stories they have to tell about Lancashire, but I can't see them being very interesting. Opening a page at random, I read, "Can I have a Chorley cake, a steak and kidney pudding, and 3 balm cakes please Mr Roberts? Eee, yi've got a face like a wet weekend in Preston!" I guess they can always use it as a door-stop 👍

Market day tomorrow, and I will be heading down to see Tool Man and the Teds, and hopefully have lunch with Wolfie :) Tool Man was asking me all about the history of pocket cutlery last week, and since he was very interested in the concept of friction folders, he asked me if I'd bring some with me. Have a good day Guardians
