I want to apply for entrance to The Guardians..... I bought a single Lambsfoot about 3 weeks ago and fell in love with it, warts and all...…. So I bought 3 more & received them yesterday...……. So now it is a herd of 4..... I live just south of Rochester, NY..… I have no connection with NYC and have never been there, even though I have lived in NY 58 of my 69 years.... I am a retired manufacturing manager of heavy machining; a USAF Viet Nam Vet; and have somewhere around 200 knives...…… So all that and $.50 will buy you a small coffee.... Attached is a picture of the herd...…….. I enjoy reading this thread & it sounds like you are a nice group...…….. That’s a fine collection. A warm welcome to you, Sir.

Oh, you finally had the surgery. Glad it's over for you and I hope the recovery is quick and as painless as possible.
Thanks John.

want to apply for entrance to The Guardians.
Welcome Brent. Nice lambs.

Thanks Dwight, incredible pic, you are going to love this ironwood
Thanks Jack they look amazing. :) Sure appreciate your tireless efforts.

Hope you heal fast and well my friend
Gracias amigo.

Aye! She's a looker!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thank you, Dennis!

Thanks very much Dylan. Oh, I’m sure I’d love the forests of the Pacific Northwest, my friend. I have friends in Portland and Seattle, so it’s definitely a part of the US I plan to visit, whenever I can make it over there. I always enjoy scrutinising your camping and hunting pics in the Pacific NW wilderness.:)

Well, I am not too far from Portland (about an hour and a half south) so if you ever do make it over here for a visit, we will have to make a point to get out and experience some scenery!

I’m reading Horace Kephart’s Our Southern Highlanders at the moment, and the Scots-Irish Appalachians definitely use ‘you’uns’ in that, like Jathes said.

Horace Kephart is one of my personal heroes, at least in respect to his woodsman knowledge. That particular book as well as his Camping and Woodcraft are excellent reads and I've read them more than a few times, I always discover something new each time I read them, particularly Camping and Woodcraft.

A fantastic assortment, Jack, not a bad one in the lot! I suspect we will need to have another chart where we match up the knife with a name. ;)

Thanks Dylan :) I really don't remember noticing it, but may have just forgotten. Charlie has a theory that air-travel in the hold can affect knives. I guess if the air inside a flaw expanded?

Always possible, I suppose. I haven't posted many pics of the pile side which I do not know why, the covers are quite striking regardless of the flaw.

Much the same with me my friend, I got the ebony and horn at the same time, and the ebony won me over  Then came the ACs! :D Fantastic pic

Thank you, Jack. 2018 was an excellent year for Lambsfoot knives. I suspect 2019 will be just as grand, if not better.

Welcome to the Guardians, Brent! Excellent assortment you've already acquired. Well done!

Good cross-section:thumbsup:

But, don't know so much about 'herd'...should it not be 'flock' ? ;):D

After seeing Ron post his Père David's Lambsfoot and then seeing Brent post his, I felt compelled to actually look up the Père David's deer as I cannot recall if I have ever seen one. A rather unique looking animal, although quite handsome.

Of course, I also had to post a pic of the handsome devil that is a Sambar deer. Interesting factoid, there is actually a small herd of Sambar in California and some in Florida too, I think. Introduced at the turn of the 20th century and subject to very controlled hunts.

I believe Chin wrote some excellent posts regarding the merits of Sambar stag versus some of the other types of antler when it comes to being used in cutlery. Fascinating stuff.

(I hope it's ok to post such things here, Jack, I felt it relatable considering the use in Lambsfoot knives.)

That'll be fun Dylan :)

Lots of Lambie goodness planned for 2019 ;)

Yes, quite right Will

I've got this one close at hand today.

Truly special Dylan :) I was talking to John Maleham and his Head Cutler about jigged bone. They were saying it wasn't all that long since the last Sheffield bone jigger packed it in. I do remember the last Sheffield pearl cutter, who worked very close to the Wright factory

Cool pic Jer

Crikey, that's quite a fall Harry, don't go dropping any knives! So is the car out on the ice yet (I look forward to it all year!)? :D

No worries my friend
I do not know Jack .As of last week they were Ice Fishing on the lake but the car had not been put onto it yet . The city that the event is in is not the city that we normally go to anymore even though my wife will be doing taxes there starting probably next week . I just went to the event holders website and saw no info of it yet .

Thanks Harry :)

I sure hope to. Suspension and/or expulsion(just teasing) from the Guradians is not my goal! Preston

Some dark ebony pile side love. Excited for these 2019's. And excited for people that haven't had the pattern to get a chance at one. Again huge thanks to Jack for being the ambassador to this pattern and for being our fearless leader.

Thanks Taylor :) I'm excited to get them into people's hands, but pretty exhausted!

Taylor, at this point it looks like Jack is the Shepard and we are the Lambs.:D

Red sky at night - Jack's been burning the candle at both ends and set the house on fire!

Red sky in the morning - No, it just looks red, through my blood-shot eyes! ;)
