It is a bit odd. As a former mortarman all we used were mils because it was way more precise. Suunto used to make a nice mil compass that I carried as a backup to the Army issued M2 compass . I don’t remember it looking quite like that though.

Yes, indeed. I spotted it on Golden Gordon's market stall, and when I asked about it, he said I could have it. I'd intended to give it to my mate Wolfie's lad, but I might give him another instead. I can't see a maker's name on it I'm afraid.
