I don't know if there is any history of it in the US, but here, in my father's time and earlier, during home births, as the delivery approached, the midwife would famously say, "We'll be needing lots and lots of hot water!" The men would be sent to the kitchen to boil pans and kettles. Of course, there was no need for all this hot water, but it got them out from under the midwife's feet, and probably stopped a few of them feinting!Thanks good sir.![]()
