I don't know if there is any history of it in the US, but here, in my father's time and earlier, during home births, as the delivery approached, the midwife would famously say, "We'll be needing lots and lots of hot water!" The men would be sent to the kitchen to boil pans and kettles. Okay…in our family we keep the afterbirth placenta. It’s a good source of protein, vitamins and nutrients. Just remember that a little seasoning goes a long wayGood point Bob!
