Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Thank you, Preston!

Missouri Meerschaum pipes are excellent! I recommend them to a lot of first time smokers.

Well, as I mentioned last night, I am headed on a beer tour today. I have decided that my Lambsfoot of choice is going to be my AC, likely one of my most cherished. My plan throughout the day is to take a pic at each brewery I visit with a pint of something tasty and post it here. With the AC posed provocatively, of course. ;)

I hope you all have a terrific day, I hope to be checking in regularly.

Can't wait to see the pics. Sounds like a blast!

Worked a week of overtime. Came back to nearly 40 pages of Lambsfoot content I’ve got to catch up on!!

Received my Ironwood for 2019 and I love it.

Have a couple questions. The tip is a little rounded on the blade, should I just run it on a stone to try and get it to more of a point? Oddly I’ve never tried to do this, since I mostly strop them to keep sharp.

Second, I washed the knife pretty hood and the finish on the wood looks a little dull (matte), I’ve rubbed some mineral oil on the wood, but it’s not making it any more glossy. What should I rub the wood with to try and get a more luster/shiny finish?

And, lastly, thank you to Jack Black Jack Black for making this knife happen. It’s a great addition and I’m gonna try and locate my knife on the pic ASAP. Probably before I go back and read all the missed pages (could be another week!!)

The 2019 Gaurdians are awesome knives! I can no longer keep up with this thread but you folks have posted some beautiful iron wood lambsfoot knives:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Due to prior financial obligations I regrettably had to bow out of my reservation.
Here's a shot of my favorite lambsfoot from last weekend at the camp. Hog hunt down in far south Texas. After my limit of Javelina I decided to skip the last hunt on Saturday and enjoy a little good bourbon (EH Talor small batch:thumbsup:) and enjoy the weather/scenery. Have a great weekend everyone !

Didn't realize there was a limit on javelina, figured they would be classified as a pig/hog and be open season. Nice photo, and Lambsfoot.

I'll be interested in the replies about the polishing of Ironwood, mine was dulled during my flushing out of the stuff left over from the building of it. You sure have a nice one.

Did you submerge the knife in water? I flushed my knife's joint with oil and compressed air.

First brewery and pint of the day. I'm partial to red ales so it is only appropriate to kick things off with a good red.

Vagabond Brewing - On the Road Red.

Vagabond is owned and operated by veterans of our armed forces and they make excellent beer. They used to make an Irish Wolfhound Red that was more of an Irish style. I'm guessing that it wasn't hoppy enough for our PNW denizens...

This red is a good replacement though.

The pile side of one of my ironwood lambs is exceedingly dull and shows zero reaction to light. Looks very much like ebony. The mark side has beautiful grain but also has little reaction to the light. I was wondering if it just needs an ultra fine buffing. I may give it a try but I'm also thinking about sending it to Glenn and let him work his magic on it.

Looking forward to your beer route extravaganza!

Blimey! You folks have been busy, while I've been out on my hike here today :) It's not even 8.00pm here, and my head is nearly on the keyboard, I'm beat! :D

Had to throw this in the pocket...holy cow, this 2018 Guardian knife is amazing.

*Edit- Not my welds...LOL

That looks very well loved Taylor :)

Very nice combo for a hike!
Have a nice one!

Thanks Dennis, been a nice day, beautiful weather here at the moment :)

Happy Friday Guardians! As always I have enjoyed catching up with the stellar folks here along with their wonderful knives.:thumbsup:

Gorgeous pic my friend, I love those 'bar-code' stripes

Blame it on BFO-induced stress. o_O

Yeah! ;)

Another Ironwood checking in from snowy Nebraska! Apologies for the poor pictures.
I love the way this knife snaps to the open position. With authority!
I would like to thank Jack Black Jack Black for all his energy, enthusiasm, vision and legwork!:cool:

Will be toting this this weekend:

Gotta break it in, you know.

Wow Vince, excellent pic

Fantastic Taylor, such great patina

otta break it in, for sure! I've been carrying mine most days, and I can even pinch it open if my hands are dry.

Looks like you put a great edge on that beauty Rachel :) Good pinching!

Miller? Who are you and what have you done with Taylor?

LOL! :D

That big'un in Ebony looks fantastic, Jack! A very nice pairing with your Ivory. I am pleased your trip to Sheffield went well (aside from the somber news, my condolences) and it looks like you brought back some very attractive knives! I am sure their prospective owners will be very pleased.

I am enjoying the first libation of the weekend. Very much appreciated as it has been a very busy week. Tomorrow, I am going on a bus tour of all the breweries in Salem, Oregon (not a large city but it has enough breweries to keep us occupied and less than sober throughout the day). I will definitely have a Lambsfoot in the pocket but I haven't decided on which one.

This one is a strong candidate.

mgeg19g.jpg

Thank you very much my friend, that photo is absolutely awesome, just incredible

Gonna try pinching it open myself. No way I can do it with my AC, but maybe this one.

Yeah, you should manage it Vince :)

Edit: I was able to pinch it open with my right hand without much difficulty. Harder to do with my left. But I've always opened with my left hand, and it is easier to just use the nail nick.

(Keeping it somewhat lambsfoot relevant) (A pic that didn't make the cut awhile back)

Here is a well enjoyed Lion head Meerschaum pipe hovering over an Ashley.

Good Morning Guardians. Happy Saturday.

Looking gorgeous :)

Morning! Hav-a-gud'n youse Guardians of the lambs.View attachment 1079020

Superb photo Dwight :)

And sorry for calling you the wrong name, RON.
It seems to be a Guardian Tradition... Quoting one guy and thinking of another. My apologies.

I've certainly done that a few times myself!

I have decided to name my knife: Sköll
Sköll is the Norse wolf that chases the sun and will devour it during Ragnarok. Since there is obviously an image of a wolf in my knife, and the sun brings out the life in it, and the fact that my wife is Norwegian (mother straight from Norway), it just seems fitting...

Great name John

Here's an update (pages 701-710 now available) of a table I posted previously, showing data that suggest the acceleration of this thread over time. (And I think it "misses" the frenzy of activity when the 2019 Guardians ironwood lambsfoot knives started arriving in mailboxes!)
I counted how many days elapsed during the first "decade" of pages in each "century" of pages in this thread. Results:
Pages __________ Days Elapsed
1-10 _____________ 30
101-110 ___________ 14
201-210 ___________ 11
301-310 ___________ 16
401-410 ___________ 12
501-510 ___________ 8
601-610 ___________ 3
701-710 ___________ 2

Here's my feeble attempt at catch-up.

Sounds like you're perfectly proportioned, Vince! ;)

Congrats, your horn handles are finely feathered!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Congrats on the amazing stag lambsfoot triple play, Steve!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Did all your weight-loss efforts pay off, Jack? How many pounds (stone?) did you shed? Are you now almost as svelte as your bottle opener?? ;)

:thumbsup::cool::)

You don't know how true, that is, Dennis, since one of the major reasons my rosewood ranks so highly is that my favorite (and only) child picked it out for me in a York, England hardware store while she and my wife were visiting Great Britain. :D

Maybe "gremlin" would have been a better choice than "gargoyle", Russell, but the face you posted is the one I was trying to describe, with the big golden teeth and the head of a pin for an eye.:cool::)

I appreciate that comment coming from a photographer as accomplished as you are! :) It's probably the best pic of my rosewood I've ever taken, and it really doesn't accurately represent what the handle usually looks like to me.

Thanks, Mykel. :)

Thanks, Dwight. :) I haven't settled on a name yet. I'm considering something based on high school Latin translation of ironwood: ferrum lignum or ferrum materia. I find the look of my ironwood intoxicating, so I could take the second syllable of each word in the first pair to get "rumnum jack". Or I could take the first syllable of each word in the second pair to get "Fermat jack", which has the appeal of the lawyer/amateur mathematician Fermat. Given the apparent "valley" on the pile side handle, I'm also considering something related to the old TV Western The Big Valley. Maybe Barkley Jack for the family surname, or Jarrod Jack for the oldest brother, a usually-dignified lawyer who fits with the distinguished mark side of my knife, or even Audra Jack, since Linda Evans was almost as hot as my lambsfoot! :D I'm open to suggestions and opinions.

Thanks, Steve. :)

Greg, thanks for reminding us that for many of us, the main draw of the lambsfoot is its utility, whether it's dressed plain or fancy! ;):cool:

Thanks, Russell. :)

Thanks, Dennis. :)

- GT

Most interesting GT :) I'm not sure how much weight I've lost, but my waist has gone from 40" to a 36" I'm thinking of calling my 2019 'Slippery Jack'! ;)

Jack, I think memory is all about connections and "handles" to access the info in your brain, and I suspect that you have relatively rich knife connections.
No memorable pinochle game when I last played, but I clearly remember that during my first year in college, we played pinochle in the dorm, but someone taught us to play bridge at the end of January, and we never played anything else after that.
Thanks, Jack. :) I prefer to think that my ironwood lambsfoot is foundational to the entire pile of knives, rather than it being at the bottom of the class!

Sounds good to me - bow to authoritative sources is how I roll! :D

Thanks, Preston. :)

Splendid pic of your sublime stag lambsfoot, Joshua!:cool::cool::thumbsup:

Thanks for the medical alternatives!:thumbsup::cool:

Awesome oxhorn, Dennis! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

:D:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Congrats, Mykel. :cool::cool::thumbsup:

I'm certainly thankful you shipped with armor-plated packaging, Jack!! ;):thumbsup: In this pic, I think you can see a deep dent in the tin that looks like someone placed a screwdriver there and hit the other end with a hammer! Hate to think of what it might have done to the knife without the tin!

Good to see your jigged bone lambsfoot, Senhor José!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

You should get a little scabbard so your cat could always carry a knife!:cool::cool::thumbsup:

Thanks GT, I was in a lovely old bookshop today, and happened to mention my interest in pocket-knives. The owner immediately produced his IXL Barlow Lambsfoot, which like most of us here could, I identified before he'd even got it more than halfway out of his pocket. His wife then produced a nice old Pradel, nice people :)

Yikes! Sometimes you wonder if a 'Handle With Care' label will be viewed as an instruction or a challenge

Always a treat to see your Lam Jack :) About time we saw its namesake too! ;)

Thank you My friend, look forward to the next time we shall meet up.

Nice looking covers in the sun.

Definitely looking good there.

Deep rich colors on your 2019, gorgeous.

Love the shape of the swirls toward the end of the handle.

Still enjoying my new Guardians knife.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Excellent

@r8shell - Many moons ago, when I was a Junior in High School, I had a math teacher that made us always use Pi to 8 places
Of course that was when we used pencil and paper to cipher.
He said that rounding it off to 8 places was close enough to be accurate for our purposes
Funny thing is I still remember it, guess I always will - 3.14159265 o_O

Joe

It's a job in itself these days Joe! Love the look of that grain :) I'm rarely wash my knife handles (gave some rosewood a wipe over today), and didn't have my '19 long enough to do a thing with it :( I'm sure one of our resident wood experts can give you good advice though  Sorry to hear about the tip, that's annoying, could you post a pic Joe?

I'll be interested in the replies about the polishing of Ironwood, mine was dulled during my flushing out of the stuff left over from the building of it. You sure have a nice one.

I just flush with a little mineral oil in the joint

I wasn't sure I'd make it to here without falling asleep! Hope you're all having a great weekend. Been beautiful weather here, and I had an excellent walk. Not sure what was going on with my camera though, almost all my knife pics were out of focus :( It's still fairly early here, but I'm going to have to hit the hay (another early start tomorrow). Great to see all the Lambsfoot knives Guardians :)

Have really been enjoying the ebony lambsfoot that I got the other week, so I dug out the old Taylor's Eyewitness that I have had for years. I have mentioned before that it has really bad fit and finish. On looking again it is not that bad apart from the gap between bolster and wood. So I filled the gap with epoxy, then sanded it down and gave it a polish. I am really rather please with it as a nice user. IMG_20190223_214105-1008x756.jpg

That is beautiful, I like the tighter grain on it. Congratulations.

I like everything about that picture. It makes me want to be outside enjoying my knives.

Did you submerge the knife in water? I flushed my knife's joint with oil and compressed air.
I won't say submerged...I ran it under hot water after spraying the blade channel with brake cleaner then WD 40. Then compressed air to blow it all out and dry.
