Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

In keeping with a pipe theme...
Meerschaum is white in its natural form, but takes on a beautiful warm golden-brown color over time through smoking.
There is also quite a fascinating art form in skillfully carved Meerschaum pipes, which are certainly sought after.
Here is a well enjoyed Lion head Meerschaum pipe hovering over an Ashley.

An exquisite duo.

I have decided to name my knife: Sköll
Sköll is the Norse wolf that chases the sun and will devour it during Ragnarok. Since there is obviously an image of a wolf in my knife, and the sun brings out the life in it, and the fact that my wife is Norwegian (mother straight from Norway), it just seems fitting...

Neal the pipe is absolutely stunning.

Handsome lambsfoot Dwight!
Thanks Dave. I'm hoping your's is close by my friend.

Very nice! You seem to capture water in your photos better than anybody I've seen.
Thanks John. There is a great deal of water around here to capture.

Most excellent name for multiple reasons and on several levels. Gorgeous ironwood on your lamb.

Here's an update (pages 701-710 now available) of a table I posted previously, showing data that suggest the acceleration of this thread over time. (And I think it "misses" the frenzy of activity when the 2019 Guardians ironwood lambsfoot knives started arriving in mailboxes!)
I counted how many days elapsed during the first "decade" of pages in each "century" of pages in this thread. Results:
Pages __________ Days Elapsed
1-10 _____________ 30
101-110 ___________ 14
201-210 ___________ 11
301-310 ___________ 16
401-410 ___________ 12
501-510 ___________ 8
601-610 ___________ 3

Here's my feeble attempt at catch-up.

I'm lucky my thumb is one inch in width. Easy to measure things. And my foot is a foot (when wearing shoes).
Sounds like you're perfectly proportioned, Vince! ;)

Newest addition, large buffalo.

Congrats, your horn handles are finely feathered!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

...
I just received some knives straight from A. Wright. Very pleased with them. The stag is a bit different than what I’m used to, but I like it.... very pleasant in the hand as well....

...
Congrats on the amazing stag lambsfoot triple play, Steve!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

I started the year off with a virus, and since it stopped me eating for a week, and my stomach shrank, I thought it might be a good opportunity to lose some weight. So I've been eating super healthy, cut down drastically on my calorie intake, stopped taking sugar, and been walking at least 5 miles a day. I also decided to stop boozing for January, but when the end of January came, I wasn't that fussed about a drink. Thought I'd treat myself to a beer tonight

uCwj4aR.jpg
Did all your weight-loss efforts pay off, Jack? How many pounds (stone?) did you shed? Are you now almost as svelte as your bottle opener?? ;)

GT, you are too kind to rewind, but your effort is certainly noted, and appreciated. Thank you.
:thumbsup::cool::)

...
Love the rosewood! Had to be like choosing a favorite child!:)
You don't know how true, that is, Dennis, since one of the major reasons my rosewood ranks so highly is that my favorite (and only) child picked it out for me in a York, England hardware store while she and my wife were visiting Great Britain. :D

I think I see the bearded gargoyle, and I found this face also GT.

Russell

View attachment 1074755
Maybe "gremlin" would have been a better choice than "gargoyle", Russell, but the face you posted is the one I was trying to describe, with the big golden teeth and the head of a pin for an eye.:cool::)

...
5K Qs 5K Qs Thank you Gary. That Rosewood against the other wood makes a picture perfect image. And your Ironwood is lovely.
I appreciate that comment coming from a photographer as accomplished as you are! :) It's probably the best pic of my rosewood I've ever taken, and it really doesn't accurately represent what the handle usually looks like to me.

I can only hope my Rosie is as comely as your fine example GT.:)
Thanks, Mykel. :)

GT that is fantastic ironwood my friend! You hit the jackpot! Very nice to see such a beauty come to rest at your place. Well done and looking forward to the name you come up with for such a fine example.
Thanks, Dwight. :) I haven't settled on a name yet. I'm considering something based on high school Latin translation of ironwood: ferrum lignum or ferrum materia. I find the look of my ironwood intoxicating, so I could take the second syllable of each word in the first pair to get "rumnum jack". Or I could take the first syllable of each word in the second pair to get "Fermat jack", which has the appeal of the lawyer/amateur mathematician Fermat. Given the apparent "valley" on the pile side handle, I'm also considering something related to the old TV Western The Big Valley. Maybe Barkley Jack for the family surname, or Jarrod Jack for the oldest brother, a usually-dignified lawyer who fits with the distinguished mark side of my knife, or even Audra Jack, since Linda Evans was almost as hot as my lambsfoot! :D I'm open to suggestions and opinions.

...
Thanks! I think you got a winner as well! That single black vein on the mark side is fantastic!
Thanks, Steve. :)

With all of these stunning, drool-inducing photos flying in at breakneck speed, I feel it is my civic (or, moral?) obligation to interject with a photo-free utility report lest we forget that lambsfoot knives want, nay, demand, to be put to work. :)
...
Man, I love using this knife.
...
Greg, thanks for reminding us that for many of us, the main draw of the lambsfoot is its utility, whether it's dressed plain or fancy! ;):cool:

Sweet looking ironwood there GT.

Russell
Thanks, Russell. :)

Yes sir, I think you scored a very unique one there! I too love the valley, reminds me of the military maps, a draw or ridge on a mountain or hill!
Nice! Congratulations, Gary!
Thanks, Dennis. :)

...The template is just circles. When my father was visiting last summer, I mentioned that some of my drawings required dividing a circle in particular segments, and I was trying to figure out how to mark the circumference evenly. He explained that what I needed to determine is the secant, and that this is a trigonometry problem. (I never got that far in math) He sat down and wrote up a table for me to use.:thumbsup:

Congratulations! I like that wave on the pile side. Have you found it in the class picture yet?
Cool math story about your father's secant table. :):cool::cool:
Thanks for the wave rave. ;)

Congrats, GT. It surely is a beauty and I'm glad you finally got it.
Thanks, John. :)

Groovy kink on the pile side, Gary. I dig it!
Thanks, Vince. :) Clever "valley" word play! :D:cool::thumbsup:

...
Very nice Ironwood there Gary! Glad it made it home safe and sound! :)
Thanks, Ron. :)

Wow 5K Qs 5K Qs Beautiful Knife Gary!

Thanks, Duncan. :) Looking forward to seeing yours!:cool:

That's sterling research GT :) I find it bizarre that, when it comes to knife-related stuff, my memory is no worse than average - with everything else it's absolutely terrible!
...
Clearly a memorable game! :D

Con amore! :D I'm glad it made it GT, I also like the 'contour lines', it looks good :) Thanks for the kind words my friend

ch4DyKI.jpg

It's not like you to be at the bottom of the class GT! :D ;)
...
Jack, I think memory is all about connections and "handles" to access the info in your brain, and I suspect that you have relatively rich knife connections.
No memorable pinochle game when I last played, but I clearly remember that during my first year in college, we played pinochle in the dorm, but someone taught us to play bridge at the end of January, and we never played anything else after that.
Thanks, Jack. :) I prefer to think that my ironwood lambsfoot is foundational to the entire pile of knives, rather than it being at the bottom of the class!

Any time.
No need to look it up and verify!
...
Sounds good to me - bow to authoritative sources is how I roll! :D

...
GT, congratulations, on those two, The Ironwood, like all of these is spectacular.
...
Thanks, Preston. :)

Have a great day Guardians!
Splendid pic of your sublime stag lambsfoot, Joshua!:cool::cool::thumbsup:

...
I actually never used that method! I use either honey, clay or a sap from South America called "sangre de drago" (brought back to me by someone who went to Ecuador). They all work great and have antiseptic and antibacterial properties :)
...
Thanks for the medical alternatives!:thumbsup::cool:

I have to remember to keep one of those tins for myself! :D
...
I'm certainly thankful you shipped with armor-plated packaging, Jack!! ;):thumbsup: In this pic, I think you can see a deep dent in the tin that looks like someone placed a screwdriver there and hit the other end with a hammer! Hate to think of what it might have done to the knife without the tin!

The cat was lying in the sun and held still long enough for a picture. It was a good day, no blood was spilled. Happy Sunday night, everyone.

You should get a little scabbard so your cat could always carry a knife!:cool::cool::thumbsup:

My lambsfoot this week has been my 2017 horn lambsfoot I call Lam Jack:

How about Ferlig? Sounds kind of Nordic. I used to watch Big Valley, because I had a little crush on Heath.

Cool math story about your father's secant table. :):cool::cool:
The funny part is when I got up one morning and he asked me to turn on the computer so he could double check his math. He said he could only figure the numbers to the third decimal place in his head, but wanted to be more accurate. What a show-off!

You should get a little scabbard so your cat could always carry a knife!:cool::cool::thumbsup:
No need, she has 18 sheathed knives with her at all times.

I really like "Rumnum Jack". However it makes me think of "Redrum Jack" which, while sinister sounding, is kinda cool. Plus the ironwood is sort of reddish...

There’s something very compelling about this cover. What does the other side look like.

Here is the other side as requested CD.

My friend that's a beautiful looking Knife!

Thank you My friend, look forward to the next time we shall meet up.

Good Morning Guardians.
I can't remember if I posted a pile side picture of Wolfie, so I decided to take one yesterday while I was snapping some others. Hope everybody has a great Friday and an even better weekend.

Nice looking covers in the sun.

First full day with this guy. All I've ever heard is that these are work knives. But who says they can't look good too.View attachment 1078271

Definitely looking good there.

Good morning y'all. With apologies Dylan. :D Have a great weekend Guardians.View attachment 1078343
