Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

mitch4ging mitch4ging Thank you Dennis. Cool pic with the tin! :)
Thank you, sir! Been in my pocket all weekend!;)
I like the taste. Made with liquorice!

That is no joke Dennis. The best cough drops I have ever used when you are serious about it.

That's good to hear Dennis

We definitely have them here, they're produced over the hill from me in Lancashire (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fisherman's_Friend). I used to like their Extra Strong Mints, but it's decades since I had one of the lozenges. When I was a kid, I'd buy them when I had a cold, they're serious gear! My first job was as an apprentice mechanic, and I remember one time having a stinking cold, but I had to work anyway, so I had one in my mouth, releasing the strong menthol vapours. A feller came up to ask me something, and as we were talking I suddenly realised his eyes were watering from the fumes! :D  For years, they just did the one type, and they just sold in small quantities, then, for some reason, they became a big hit in Europe and they launched loads of different types. I'll have to look out for the tins :)

My maternal grandmother was very fond of 'Victory V' lozenges (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victory_V), always kind of smelled of them :D
They are certainly the real deal! They get the job done, and makes Halls seem like candy...which is really is!
I was up at 5.30am today, so thought I'd have a pick-me-up ;)

I have been AWOL the past few days and I'm not going to try to catch up either, Dennis. I don't type that fast and have to stop and proof my typing 'cause of mistakes.

That looks like a good pick-me-up, Jack. I'm assuming it has caffeine and alcohol?

Hope all you Guardians have a good week.

Yes, I never cared for Hall's. I think the reason cough lozenges were so popular with old folks when I was a kid, was because, unlike candy, they weren't covered by WW2 rationing

A double dose of darkness will do ya!!:thumbsup:

:D

Morning Guardians, rotten weather outside here today, though the sky is not as black as my ebony '18 ;) Have a good day folks

Good to see you here Preston, I hope you're keeping OK. Hopefully not too much caffeine! :D I think it's about the same as a cup of coffee, and the alcohol is moderate too. It's just a beer from the supermarket, brewed by a well-known Welsh brewery called Brains. That's a great pic of your Guardians Lambsfoot Preston

Fisherman's Friends I see. A fine Lancashire delicacy from near my neck of the woods. Though I have to admit to the best of my knowledge Lancashire knives are not as good as the Yorkshire ones!

More like Kate Bush....:D

Brasso has alcoholic properties and was notoriously popular among derros and chronic drinkers who imbibe methylated spirit....
Now im wondering about those wartime cough lozenges....probably loaded with codeine or some opiate that got Aunty Mavis well wasted.

I cant quite remember why I took that photo of my self dressed as a Yorkshireman drinking a bottle of Brasso.....:D

Because you couldn't get any Henderson's?! :D

Love these two Sheffield beauties!

I think they used to leave it to settle, until the polishing compounds sank, and then drink the alcohol off the top! Victory V's originally contained both ether and chloroform!

I worked for a time in a grocery store that bordered Skid Row. The dumpsters were right behind the store at the end of the shift I would be dumping the garbage from the day. Almost daily there would be a few sitting next to the wall either passed out or awake, but not comprehending. They would puncture a hole in the bottom of a can of Lysol disinfectant spray, and drink the liquid or quite often antifreeze. These folks were usually suffering from Scabies and looked terrible.
