Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I have tried several times to do the multi-quote and respond to this thread today. I'm not getting something right, even though I have succeeded on previous days. Technology is great when I can get it to work.

The comments have been interesting and humorous, the pictures inspiring.

Hope all Guardians have a great Sunday and get ready for the up coming week.

Dutch wants to say HI to Ari and Henry!

A little sunshine in Manchester this morning and the first time it has been sunny with my ironwood lamb in my pocket, so I thought I would get a shot to show the grain gleaming. The longer I look at the knife the better it gets.View attachment 1097276
Good morning Wayne. Same bright sun on this side of the Atlantic and unless I'm seeing things my ironwood is the matching piece to yours. Mine on the left yours on the right from your just posted photo.IMG_8557.JPG

I think the first 6 or 7 of the posts quoted below are relatively old and I neglected to respond to them during the winter of my discontent! :(

Gary, if that Lamb was a steak, that would be perfect marbling!
Thanks, Dennis. :)

Memorable pic, Alan!:thumbsup::cool: Smoke and mirrors involved? ;)

Thanks for a "peek behind the curtain", Alan! ;)

...
GT I appreciate your sweet spirit my friend. Stop working and act like a retiree! :D
...
Thanks, Dwight. Your advice is good, but I'm having difficulty making the adjustment.

...I can totally see why Valley Jack has jumped ahead in your rotation.
...
Thanks, FBC. :) I didn't want to wait 5 months to carry Valley Jack when the current schedule runs out!

Don't let things slide GT, or who knows where it might end with too much spare time on your hands! ;)
...
My horror is caused by the thought of the coarseness of the stones GT. My grandfather still kept his main stone in the cardboard box it came in, it had two sides, one 'fine', one 'coarse', but in reality they were 'coarse' and 'very coarse' He did give me a couple of slightly finer pocket stones though

Wow GT  Great to know that Valley Jack has been added to your schedule :)
...
Thanks for the advice, Jack, but so far an excess of spare time has not been a problem I've had to face!
Thanks also for your experience-based opinions on carborundum stones.:cool:

I've probably missed something but why "Valley Jack"? :)
...
David, I hope this photo of the pile side grain on my ironwood lambsfoot shows the "valley" I named the knife after:

...
Always nice when you pop in, GT.
...
Thanks, John.

Good to see you here, Gary. I was starting to worry! This thread does move right along.

I know I've had my share of crashes. Thank God I was wearing my helmet last time: I landed face first, but the protusion on the front of the helmet kept my nose and glasses from being damaged!
Kevin does have a good looking bike.

I suspect fireworks rockets have been around a long time. They even had them in the Shire! And Handel had some Royal Fireworks music. Of course, the Chinese....

Nice patina on the Black Jack.
Hope you have a great weekend, Gary.
:)

[Hey, look, Ma! I'm multi-posting!]
Thanks for the kind words (and multi-quote prowess), Vince. :) A face-first bike crash would be no picnic, I'll bet! My brain must be permanently frozen: rockets for fireworks have a LONG history, as you (and Jack, below) pointed out and I apparently couldn't recall!

...
Thanks GT, great to see you here  Lovely pic of your Black Jack :)
...
From the early 13th century I think  Congratulations on the multi-posts Vince! :D
Thanks, Jack. :)

Amazing patina on the Lamb Foot, GT!
Thanks, Taylor. :) I consider that quite a compliment, coming from you, who seems to have a patina in two days that takes me two months to get! :D:thumbsup:

As promised here are the first pictures of my "19".
For me it's a beauty...:D:thumbsup:

...
Congrats, Senhor José!! That lambsfoot has glorious grain in its handles!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

So he says! Don't worry, RALF is vain enough NOT to take it the wrong way. ;)
:p:p

...
Gary, I'll have to see if I can find that cut. Black Jack is looking like he loves to be carried!
Thanks from both me and Black Jack for the kind remark, Preston. :) I was poking around the internet the other day looking at various recordings of "Shady Grove". Although most have quite similar chorus/refrain, there's a wide variety of verses that performers have used! I thought lyrics in one verse of a Doc Watson rendition were especially relevant for this thread:
When I was a little boy
I wanted a Lambsfoot knife
And now I want little Shady Grove
To say she'll be my wife

(I took "poetic license" and changed "Barlow" to "Lambsfoot" in the second line. ;))

Thank you GT. Good to hear from you.
...
Thanks, Dwight; good to be heard from! :)

...
Stepping out with Miss Lucy today ;) Have a great weekend Guardians

Fantastic photo of Lucy, Jack; she's looking lovely, lucid, and a little lascivious! ;):thumbsup:

Good Morning Guardians
Pitch-perfect pic, John. I think I know that song: parsley, sage, rosemary, and Sköll.;)

Beautiful photos this morning! I’ve got my AC along with a domestic companion in my pocket today! :)

Stellar stag, Ron!!:thumbsup::thumbsup: (Best of luck to your Vols today, although I have Iowa in my "prediction contest". ;))

Mark, I think this is my favorite "pose" for a knife photo, especially if it's a single blade knife.:cool::thumbsup: Almost every pic I've taken this way has turned out well, and I have to remind myself not to use it for every pic of every knife! Yours here is awesome!

Nice patina on your ironwood, Joshua!:thumbsup::cool: Any special uses that were major contributors to its formation?

Mornin' Guardians.

I will have to catch up a little later, it took me longer than I ever thought it would just to catch up in the "Whatcha Totin" thread.... Either the Porch is getting way more activity or I am getting slower....probably both. :D
Great pic, FBC!:thumbsup::thumbsup: I'm convinced that there's WAY more activity on The Porch than there used to be.

...
Black Jack is looking mighty fine there
You know what, it wasn't included there but I did once read why Stephenson named it "Rocket" but now I can't remember where I read that . It was though, apparently the first land vehicle in the world to move faster than a horse. (It could make 35mph).
...
What a great shot! This is a moon shot I caught a mid-winter sometime.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday.
Thanks for the Black Jack compliment, for the info about the Rocket name, and for the moonlit vista, David!:cool::thumbsup:

Indeed! I hate trying to catch up, and while I'm composing my "catch up post", I'm already 15 more behind!:D Certainly a fast moving flock!

Lucy certainly is photogenic!:)

Thank EWE, Jack!:D

Thanks, Preston!

A little bit less nefarious than Jim's!:D

Thank you very much, Dwight!

Thanks John, I appreciate it!

Here-here!.....

......with this sort of great attitude and generosity!:)

Hello, Ari! Henry says hello back!:D

Have a great Sunday, Guardians!

Great coloring on that one Vince.
Great pictures of Ireland you posted there. I think Ireland is where Hollywood chooses to go when they need a location for empty and mystic moorland.:)
Really interesting to see the funeral photo to; your great great grandfather must of had quite the family

Thanks, it was a gift to my great-aunt from a Dutch sea captain, who lodged with the family in Liverpool during WWII.

Pt, good looking grain on that. And with the sunnier weather it's nice to see more pictures highlighting the grain in the ironwoods folks

Black Jack is looking mighty fine there

That's great! Certainly looks the part

Ahhh...technology that doesn't take 5 minutes to start up, update, download and think about something....usually with a little blue circle going round and round and round and round and.....
Fantastic!! Thanks for posting that

Thanks Dennis! A chilli festival sounds awesome! I'm not a spicy food person myself but I bet something like that would cure the stonking head cold I've picked up in work.
Hope you feel better yourself!

Dave I love the little pictures and cartoons you post. I don't know where you find them but there hilarious :D:thumbsup:

What a great shot! This is a moon shot I caught a mid-winter sometime.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday.
You know where my mind is going with these moon shots:eek:
Fine-looking threesome my friend

Thank you Dennis :D

Thanks Mark, I'm surprised, I actually thought Lucy's 'wounds' might cause a few folks to complain...

uwCHr7k.jpg

The ones I really liked were the ones with black vine-like ropes of black running through brown wood, which a few members have, and I also like those two-tone covers we have seen from the second run :) I have definitely warmed to Lucy though :)

Enticing review John, and a great pic

You too Vince :)

Morning Guardians, I hope everyone is having a good weekend :) Looks like a sunny day here, and I am taking my best pal and his missus and 3 kids out for Sunday lunch after a walk on Ilkley Moor. Should be a good day :) Have a great Sunday folks :)

Like Lucy, I took my AC out of the bunch because of a flaw, the point of the blade sits slightly proud. However, I had intended to put this right, but have been so busy I haven't had time, and really, it doesn't bother me :) My Sunday choice

Opl08nz.jpg
I would think of them as beauty marks and individual characteristics not flaws!

Thank you David. That is a beautiful and wintry for sure moon shot. Don't work too hard today.

Oh no. Love Lucy's fang marks.

Absolutely gorgeous grain glory.

Headed to the grandkids down south today. Y'all have a great Sunday! Another moon shot.View attachment 1097370
