I belong to a Tennessee deer hunting forum. In addition to half of our state wildlife officers heading down there to perform search and rescue (and sadly, recovery of bodies), forum members and their wives have gone as part of medical triage teams and shelter programs. Here is a report from one member in touch with his wife in Longbeach Missisippi (what is left of it):

"While cooking this morning at the new relief site in LongBeach , Mississippi, several of the relief people complained about the terrible odor coming from the gulf/beach area. Ms Kitty (Marshal's wife) said it smelled like something dead. She was right, over 30 filled body bags were laid out getting ripe in the Sept sun. Those bodies were less than 200 yards from thier location. The National Guard Sargent assigned to the area told them not to go past the row of trees, one older woman asked why and the trooper told them of the dead bodies.
Kitty also said they were told to prepare for 15,000 people today. They'll be served through a feeding line with each person getting served up hot food. This morning they served about 4300 breakfast meals, to the locals displaced by Katrina. Some said this was thier first food at all and others said it was thier first hot food since the storm."
I asked Marshal Dillon for an address so I could send some funds directly to that shelter. I also posted a link to this auction on TnDeer. God help us in this effort. People are still dying every hour.
