Gulf Coast Assistance

All HUD properties in Oklahoma, Kentucky & Tennessee have been pulled from the market as of today. They will house the refuges from Katrina.

Four closed schools in Memphis Tennessee are being readied to receive displaced families. A Church Of Christ here in Tennessee has already prepared to receive thirty families.

We are seeing the beginnings of a mobilization of government agencies, churches, relief agencies and private citizens the likes of which has not been seen since WWII. While New Orleans makes the news, the devistation was much more widespread. Remember, the hurricane MISSED New Orleans. They were victims of flooding from the storm surge of Lake Ponchetraine as the hurricane tracked to the East of them. The number of homeless now reaches nearly a million, I hear. Imagine that? And many of the more remote areas have not been reached or heard from yet.

lrv has already donated $25.00 without waiting to see if he obtains a knife
Thanks Larry

I'll put this under the Old Timer 8OT list which bumps Fixer27 down a notch

Del my contribution is for MM's knife. Please add it to his total.
His total should now be 55

OK Larry, done - I see you bumped your donation in his regard up another $15 - good for you!

The pledges now total $435 with one person requesting no allocation towards a knife.

If the other MM gets bumped down, somebody add another $10 to his from me and I'll donate next time I check this thread.

Madcap

Are you saying that if your $30 pledge gets bumped down, that you will then pledge $10 towards Muskrat Man's pledge?

Just a quick question regarding my donation. Do you guys take my word that I'll turn it in locally here on Tuesday, after the holiday, or would you rather I sent a check somewhere. It's your call, but they WILL get the money one way or the other.

Paul

Paul, as Del stated in his post, we are running this donation on honor. The donation of Del's six knives will end Wednesday evening. At that time, we will start the donation bidding of whatever knives are donated between now and then, at least five of them. I intend to donate one a day until then if no one else beats me to it. This forum and the people here have done well with trust and honor. I see no reason to change. Thank you for your generous support!

Make mine $30 dollars as well.
Done. Thank you fixer! By the way, Madcap Magician, you can solicit help from school mates! This is a cooperative effort!

Paul,

Codger is 100% correct. If someone says he/she has made a pledge/donation and doesn't or didn't, well, that is their Karma.

Fixer27, done!! Thank you for your help & support.

Come to think of it, that doesn't make much sense. But I wrote it, so yes, I stand by it. If the other MM gets bumped off the list for a knife, add $10 to his from me.

Madcap Magician, are you a fan of Dale Brown? I haunt bookracks waiting for his next book to appear. Ever since I read "FLIGHT OF THE OLD DOG " way back last century. That is one author who knows his stuff!

Colour me thick, but, Madcap at first I thought you were saying if you were bumped off the list you would then donate $10 towards muscrat man's pledge.

Now, (and here is why I become confused) it sounds to me that you are saying if muscrat man's pledge gets bumped (or is in danger of being bumped) you will up the ante by $10.00.

As it stands right now there are 2 x $30.00 pledges for a Old Timer 8OT. Since the suggested retail for this knife just when Schrade closed it's doors was almost $40.00, it's likely that these will be bumped.

Del

I already have one, Delander. And I am waiting until Tuesday evening to
raise my giving even higher. Hopefully someone else will "up the ante" past
the 40 dollar threshold.

And do you have a monetary goal for these?

No. When I first though of doing this I was actually thinking that if $200 was raised for the Red Cross/Salvation Army, it would be great.

After seeing the tremendous support of the members and guests of the forum, I'm humbled. These are all great people!

And, look at the support that muscrat man has received! Such an outpouring of support for a young person. This is an amazing forum!!!

Big Heart Cherokee.

As the story of the hurricane Katrina disaster began to unfold, for many of us it was like watching a child being injured and not being able to reach out and help. At first, utter disbelief. Then astonishment, and frustration. For some it turned to anger. Anger at the government, at ourselves, for some, anger at God. I very nearly got in my truck and headed out with my chainsaw, ax, tools, and all the food and water I could haul on a tandem trailer. But as I continued to search the net, talk to people in states surrounding the disaster area, it became very apparent that I would only add to the burden of the rescuers and further strain the resources already so scarce.

I finally heard from my son there that he was safe. Some friends I have not heard from yet, but I hold out hope that they are just busy with surviving and helping themselves and others.

But still I was frustrated by not helping in some meaningful way. Then Del, all the way in Calgary, Alberta Canada posted his offer to help raise money for aid. It is tradition among many native peoples that new names of honor are bestowed upon people who show extraordinary gifts of the spirit. Del has such a spirit and has helped us, not only to send gifts of support to those in need, but to feel like we are doing something meaningful. u'-ta-na' a-do-nv-do-di Big Heart Delander. Thank you. We are grateful and humbled. And you are right, the people who make up this forum are amazing!
